Hector martinez is a real collector. I don’t care about the modern items, it’s the old school items that we grew up with that matter and Hecr is the pioneer and the one that started this style of collecting. I know him for 27 years and he was doing this first.

I have the super 8 of the making of ETD and Bruce Lee's screen test. Got them in 1978. Still have my projector it still works! BTW, my friends and I took our Super 8 camera in the State Theater in L.A. and filmed Chinese Connection's fight scenes.

Hi Charles & Hector. Fantastic video. 👍I remember seeing enter the dragon back in 1973 . I live at the time in the lower east side. At Columbia Street and Houston Street. I watch enter the dragon at the loew's delancey movie theater. My first copy of enter the dragon was BETAMAX , then VHS and super 8mm. After that, I got the RCA laster disc, then Panasonic laster disc and DVD, Blu -ray , and 4k. . I still have my collection except for the enter the dragon beta max. Again great video. From what I have been reading in the comments VHS was cheaper to put out and become the format of choice amongst the consumers as more owned VHS players and VHS tapes! The simple answer why VHS "won" was it was cheaper. Both the tapes and the player..and keep in mind the first VHS players were around $1500! The betamax players were $2500. So simple economics. Also what limited amount of films there were available, there were more were released on VHS format than Betamax. It was pretty clear from the get-go VHS would dominate.

I think I owned almost every format of this movie released. I feel lucky to have watched 3 versions of Enter The Dragon in theatre, the heavily censored version with various wide angle shots not seen in the latter movies, the theatrical cut and finally the special uncut version. The heavily censored version of ETD is my favorite of the theatre releases, even though the entire kali stick scene was censored and cut from the movie, we got to see the fight scene at the entrance to the elevator shown in a wide panoramic angle where you could see everything Bruce Lee was doing. Great stuff guys!

What a hell of a collection. The film is so iconic. I was born in 78, yet i was introduced to Enter The Dragon early in my life as it was and still is the only film my father has ever seen twice at the cinema. I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen last year for the 50th. My favourite release is still the 98 vhs box set. Getting to see it uncut finally was awesome..Great video guys👍🏻👍🏻

Same here I my father bought me a VHS player for my birthday when they were 1st available from their friend who was starting a video store. He paid 500.00 for it. As soon as I got it I shot down to the store and they ordered Way of the Dragon for me. It was 89.00. I was in heaven that I could own a Bruce Lee movie and watch it a million times. Most of my friends got to watch Bruce Lee for the first time at my house!

We did the same thing. But what my friend's and I did, was rent all four of his films on betamax, yes betamax. Then we hooked our video recorders together and copied all four films, they came out perfect quality, we were the original bootlegers, I still have the footage to this day, I transferred it to DVD.

i got that movie on Blue -ray to but i don't have a blue-ray player but i do have a dvd player and i also have enter the dragon movie on dvds and vhs tapes the original one and the 1998 one don't matter what device you watch enter the dragon it still looks good doesn't matter how you view it because it's still Bruce Lee keep up the good work guys you're doing great 👍

Great explanation of the various formats that Enter the Dragon has been distributed in over the years. The sad fact is that apart from the extra scenes with the monk, (and nunchuks for us over here in the UK) the film mostly the same. It would be nice if Warner Bros eventually released some alternate takes or anything else they have on Bruce. Still after 50 years, Enter the Dragon not only remains masterpiece. But also the greatest martial arts film ever.😁🙏🎥🎞📼📽🐉

Double feature, listen you spend that on a dinner nowadays. Hector my man you brought us down a historical journey on this particular film. From 4K,Laser disc,VHS, Betamax, Super 8, 16mm, 35mm on the one and only Enter the Dragon! So fascinating to see that you own them, and share with us the history and trailers! So glad you came down this historical ride with us on the different formats that came out throughout the years on Enter The Dragon he did an incredible job, pulling everything out of his collection and glad we were able to pull this out for you and the fans as always thanks for your support brother. The reason betamax lost to vhs was because of the recording time on vhs was greater than that of betamax. I believe betamax only had an hour of recording time where as vhs was 3 hours. And people wanted to record full movies, and back in the day, betamax couldn't provide that and eventually lost the format war to vhs. Great video. I have every format also, and also every version ever released in the UK, including the very hard to find now PSP. love you guys keep up the great content, and shout out to stripey rambles, love his channel also.

Nice trip down memory lane here, guys! I first owned a (bootleg) copy of ETD on betamax, then VHS, laserdisc, dvd, blu-ray (repeatedly), & , finally, 4K. One improvement in home video formats you guys only briefly touched on here was the widescreen format. As I recall, I didn't get ETD in it's correct widescreen format until sometime in the 90s, before that your only option was pan & scan (or cropped & chopped, as I thought of it) which cut off what seemed like a full third of the original picture! Younger fans don't know how good they have it as far as the quality & easy availability of home video now commonly available is concerned! That said, I do kind of miss the treasure hunting aspect of finding Bruce Lee stuff in the pre-internet era, a combination of luck & knowing where to look were required much more then, but that was part of the fun! One question regarding the 35 millimeter print of Rapid Fire Hector has; is it in 2:35 or 1:78 screen aspect ratio? I'm curious because the dvd & blu-ray of Rapid are in 1:78 format, but the trailer is in 2:35 (the wider of the two widescreen formats), I've always wondered why the movie isn't available in it's apparent original picture format?

Hi Charles, Outstanding Episode. Hector, is Unbelievable with all of the format collection of Enter the Dragon. I must say I am a Dinosaur also. I still have my VHS, Beta and Laser Discs machines. Myself and Hector had went to Mr. Baker class he earlier and myself later. I had sent you an Email on what I saw of trailers and deleted scene that Baker had. He had the teaser trailer for the Chinese Connection and a teaser trailer for Champion of Death with Sonny Chiba. Sadly they rob alot of his films. I was told it was a student that was upset cause Mr. Baker Failed him in his class. Thanks for posting this, brang back Great Memories. Have a great weekend and Stay Safe buddy.

VHS won over beta simply because VHS beat beta on home movies. In the uk I don't even remember rental films coming out on beta. So that's it home movies on VHS beat beta

I had a Beta machine in Scotland 1979 . They were more expensive as were the tapes but far superior quality . Vhs was cheap to mass produce and the rest is history

Beta tapes originally were only 60-120 minutes. I bought my first machine on credit while still in high school and it cost $999. It had no remote and “piano keys”. It was very clunky and the tape was inserted from above. It was a cumbersome set up. Lots of moving parts and easily broken or damaged. After a few years, they came out with 180 min tapes. But the slower recording speed reduced the quality of the overall picture. Beta was doomed from the start. Although it was a much superior product, people flocked to the VHS because you could get six hours on a tape. People were happy with Inferior picture just to get the longer tapes. When I was stationed overseas in Germany, I bought a Super Beta hi-fi machine. It was state of the art at the time and cost $600 in the Base Exchange. I used it for 20 years. The hi-fi recordings were AMAZING. I even recorded my CDs onto Beta for super long party tapes. I probably had 500 movies that were either store-bought factory produced or recorded off of HBO, Showtime, etc. I received my first copy of Enter the Dragon on Valentine’s Day 1980. It arrived very late for a Christmas present. My dad had ordered through the mail. I worked in a cotton mill from 8pm to midnight Mon-Sat and he gave me the tape BEFORE work. Before I left the house, he turned on the TV and pushed play. As soon as I heard the iconic opening notes from the soundtrack I knew what the film was. We watched the Temple fight with Sammo Hung then shut it off so I wouldn’t be late for work. As I have commented on this channel previously, I have Enter the Dragon on Beta, three VHS versions including the 1998 25th Anniversary Big Box Set , multiple DVD versions, digital and Blu-ray. I even HAD (and May still have if we can find it) a 16mm film version of excerpts including Temple fight, banquet, all the tournaments rounds except O’Hara, the underground caverns, the big brawl on the courtyard and the Hall of Mirrors. I still have the film can but have no idea where the print is since my father passed in 2019. But, like Hector, Chinese Connection/Fist of Fury will always be my favorite.

Bruce Lee's HK version of Enter is the later released print that WB enhanced and those extra scenes weren't reinserted, its the remastered HK version.

Love to be in NY for them screenings 😊 That Betamax tape be worth wayyyy more than the VHS is, I collect Betamax as I had that format first. One thing is I don't know if there is a Video 2000 release of Enter The Dragon? I had a school mate here in the UK who had that format and we watched so many ninja movies on it, some I can remember you had to turn the tape over half way through the movie like a Laserdisc 😅

Side note/question...any info on why the ETD poster art and art used on the US soundtrack release is different? On the LP HAN is more recognizable and 3/4 view, looking to the left, where-as on the original poster hes full face and with a scarier expression.

Good morning sensei Charles san. Have you heard that Bruce Lee was challenged and beaten by Travador Ramos on 1972 Hong Kong? Bruce Lee wanted Travador to play Mr Han in " Enter the dragon" but turned it down.

Yes and too expensive and max recoding time on 90 minutes as opposed to VHS can record up to 6 hours! And vhs had most of the market share so beta eventually went it of business. Thanks

VHS won over Betamax because VHS could record up to 6 hours, was cheaper and was licensed out to multiple electronics companies.

Uh, where are the green & the yellow VHS versions from the mid 80s & 90's respectively? The plastic green box had a photo in the cover of Bruce shirtless taken between the shots of the Big Battle sequence while the yellow box is exactly like the black box VHS with the movie poster except that instead of the box being black is yellow.

Thanks for sharing you thoughts. Those are great collectibles you mentioned.We were not covering all the collectibles on ETD but just giving example of the formats it came out on. I have the green box VHS and it is a beauty. Do you have that one as well?

@@CharlesDamianoBLC I used to have both VHS I mentioned. Unfortunately, when I donated all my VHS movies collection (over 250 tapes) those two also were among them and it was too late after I realized my mistake.

@@CharlesDamianoBLC I donated my VHS movie collection (along with the VCR player) to a Mental Health Residential facility so their patients could enjoy great movies since they had no cable tv and were watching just the news and soap operas.
