BRUCE CANEPA WALKS THROUGH THE PORSCHE 959

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you’re a Porsche enthusiast, you’ve heard of Bruce Canepa. Bruce Canepa has been fascinated with automobiles, motorcycles, and trucks since his childhood. Born and raised in Santa Cruz California, he grew up building model cars and racing dirt bikes and go-karts. By age twelve, his father had taught him how to drive almost everything; from his first car, a 1929 Model "A" Ford, to a ten-wheel diesel truck. He worked in the family dealership every spare moment, learning mechanical, fabrication, body and paint. Today he is passionately involved in all aspects of his companies, from vehicle design and development to historical/collector car sales, restoration and racing. Today, Bruce takes you through the Porsche 959.

    Bruce, I admire your never-ending passion for the 959 and the race performance movement applied to the street. Being an old, retired Cummins Engine Company guy, we all watched Pete Schutz's career after leaving CECO and knew that big things were going to happen at Porsche...and they did! Thanks for carrying the ball to take the 959 to the absolute Ultimate level of today's technology and performance.

    As an owner of an original I marvel at driving a car that was so advanced for it’s time. I applaud BC for creating an update and his comments about the size and unpretentiousness of the cars is so true. If you know, you know what they are. 🐐 PS was this video cut short?

    I was in love with the 959 ever since it first came out. Had all the test drive articles, books and even have one of Lewandowski's limited print books. Knew all the specs, performance figures, options etc. Then finally had a chance to sit in one in 1993, and it was magic! If I ever win the lottery this is the first car I buy!

    When the 959 and Ferrari’s F40 came out in the late 1980’s they were both insane cars with unbelievable performance. That being said, the 959 was a hundred times better than the F40. Comparing the two cars is like comparing two sticks that you rub together to make fire and a Bic lighter to each other. You end up with the same outcome out of both but the Bic lighter gives you fire through advanced technology that is reliable and works every time, is comfortable, easy to use and something you can use every day no matter the conditions or where you are. Two sticks on the other hand are old technology that’s harder to use and takes a lot of work to get everything out of in order to end up with the fire you’re looking for. By the time you get a fire you’re tired and exhausted and ready to rest. Then you don’t know if you’ll be able to use them again the next time you want to because if conditions aren’t just right you won’t get the same performance from your sticks or they may not work at all. If it’s not hot, dry and the conditions great those two sticks are not going to be very much fun to use. A Bic lighter you know will work whenever you pull it out of your pocket whether it’s a beautiful sunny day or if it’s raining and even when it’s cold and snowy. No matter what you know it will work and give you the same performance each and every time.

    This video made me so happy to watch! I remember this car being my poster car when I was in first year mechanical engineering. I was fortunate enough to see them being built in person in Zuffenhausen back in the spring of 1986, and was surprisingly able to take some pictures of them while I was on an unofficial tour. It’s great to see Canepa continue to develop the car to surpass it’s already exceptional performance!

  • @a239947

    Group B race and Group B rally were very similar. The Idea was you could build cars that could race in both with little modification. And this car is the only car that would have raced in both. Racing Group B at LeMans and also designed to run in the WRC but Group B was cancelled before it could so they designed it to run in the Paris Dakar instead because they didnt need to meet the minimum build requirements.

  • @pereldh5741

    @pereldh5741

    a239947 Sure but the racing series was not cancelled due to security hazards like the rally series, it was cancelled long before that. Also obviously the racing group b cars (Ferrari 288GTO, 959 etc) clearly weren’t designed to rally, but racing - even if they DID do Paris-Dakar in a heavily modified 959 later.

  • @a239947

    @a239947

    @@pereldh5741 The race Group B was cancelled at the same time. They had very few cars take it up so they just dropped it when they dropped the whole category. The race cars were never going to be anything like the rally cars. But the rules were similar all the same. The Idea was to be so the same cars could compete in both, but the reality is the rally and race cars were going to be worlds apart from each other just due to the nature of what they do even if the rules were very similar.

    You took a ultra rare icon, the holy grail Porsche and you desecrated it! The value will never be the same not matter what you do to it! In this modern era you could of reproduced the body in carbon fibre with a custom tube chassis, lowering the weight and increasing the performance very feasible. For some reason you feel like you need the clout of the 959 to enhance your product. In my opinion any and every car can be improved but why this one, Baffled!

    I don't see how he's ruining it, the same way I don't understand the obsession with purity. IMO, what this guy is doing is honoring the original car by bringing it up to date, giving it a chance to shine like new and to prove itself once again as the legendary car it is while keeping its essence completely intact. Now, for the second time you have a 959 that stomps whatever modern car you throw at it in the face.
