Brothers REACT to Pink Floyd: High Hopes (Pulse Tour 1994)

Ойын-сауық

This cut may include some new footage, and the music was remixed in 2019.
Pink Floyd's "Pulse" tour in 1994 was a monumental event in the band's history. It followed the release of their album "The Division Bell" in 1994, which marked their return after a prolonged hiatus since their previous album, "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" in 1987.
"High Hopes" is one of Pink Floyd's most iconic and poignant songs, known for its introspective lyrics, atmospheric soundscapes, and emotive melodies. It was the final track on their 1994 album "The Division Bell" and served as a fitting conclusion to the album's thematic exploration of communication, isolation, and longing.
The song reflects on themes of nostalgia, regret, and the passage of time, with lyrics that evoke a sense of reflection and melancholy. David Gilmour's emotive vocals and guitar work, combined with Richard Wright's haunting keyboard melodies and Nick Mason's subtle percussion, create a sense of wistfulness and introspection that resonates deeply with listeners.
During the "Pulse" tour, the live rendition of "High Hopes" featured stunning visuals, including atmospheric lighting effects and projections that complemented the song's mood and atmosphere.
The "Pulse" tour was characterized by its grandiose stage production, featuring elaborate light shows, lasers, and the iconic circular projection screen known as the "Pink Floyd Prism" or "Mr. Screen." The tour spanned from March to October 1994, with performances across Europe and North America.
One of the highlights of the tour was the performance at Earls Court in London, where the band recorded their legendary live album and concert video, also titled "Pulse." The album captured the essence of Pink Floyd's live performances, featuring hits from throughout their career, including classics like "Comfortably Numb," "Wish You Were Here," and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond."
"Pulse" became one of the most acclaimed live albums in rock history, praised for its fidelity to the band's studio recordings and the immersive experience it provided to listeners. The accompanying video release further enhanced the experience with its stunning visuals and captured the essence of Pink Floyd's mesmerizing stage presence.

The Division Bell doesn't get enough love. It's a great album. Give Poles Apart a listen.

Fittingly, this was the closing track on their final true studio album - chronicling their small beginnings, ascension, ultimate stardom, tension, and slowly unwinding into retirement and relatively quiet lives - then culminating in one of the most incredible tours ever, both sonically and visually. Some FYIs - Polly Samson is Mrs. Gilmour: The "Endless River" was primarily composed of music written for the "Division Bell), and devoid of lyrics (except the last song) as a tribute to Richard Wright (RIP): Most of the music was written by either Wright on his own, or in conjunction with David: the recordings feature more storied session musicians than Steely Dan or Alan Parsons ever dreamed of. The core four albums (DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall) with Waters increasingly running the show reflected his ever growing bitterness and inner turmoil, ultimately climaxing in the basically unlistenable "Final Cut" (in reality, a Waters solo album with the rest merely session players) and then his attempt to destroy what they had built as a group. The two post-Waters albums, both musically and lyrically, carried more uplifting and hopeful messages - perhaps to partially offset some of the previous direction they had been going.

Give Wearing the Inside Out a listen. Written by the much underrated Rick Wright R.I.P.

I love the division bell album and I too only listened to the endless river once and won't be listening to it again, I was at Earl's Court for the pulse concert and have seen Roger live as well.

If you haven't seen any of his songs from either on an island or rattle that lock they're worth checking into. Such as "the blue" or "on an island" from the on an island album. And his rattle that lock album "in any tongue" faces of stone 2 incredibly great songs especially "in any tongue" if you watch the live version from Pompeii 2016!! Also if you do the song on an island check out the 2006 live version where he has David Crosby and Graham Nash doing the backing vocals.

Pink Floyd without Roger Waters is about as lively as a whale on a beach, but I like The Final Cut a lot, so I'm probably in the minority about many things. That said, this song is possibly the best on either of the post-Waters albums, even if lyrically it reads like a less pointed version of Time.

Without Roger Waters, Pink Floyd is at least 200% better live, but minus a brilliant lyricist. The Final Cut......their worst ever album. Purely Rogers solo effort gone wrong.

@@delorangeade Roger appears to write a lot of humanitarian thoughts. On the surface they make okay lyrics, but without the bands music, they are just regurgitated thoughts from thousands of previous writers. Except for those songs and thoughts that are 100% about Roger himself.....they are his only original thoughts and opinions.

Staggered that you don't like The Final Cut, a great Floyd album with tracks that didn't make the cut for The wall essentially.

The circumstances surrounding it made a difference to me - Roger wouldn't allow much input from anyone else, if any, and he was treating them terribly. By then the Wall had been out 3 and a half years. If it were out under a different artist's name, I might have liked it more, but it was a disappointment after a string of epic albums.
