As a black man who lived in the Philippines and has a child there I never experienced any racism. Filipino always gives respect to foreigners and their own. Police wants to take selfies, strangers invite you inside their home etc. I am not sure where in the Philippines this guy are reporting from?

It is not racism, it's about hygiene. Sorry to say but there are some foreigners that seem not to be taking baths every day. How did I know. I have an Australian friend before we used to skate almost everyday. I'm noticing he is changing his clothes everyday but he smells bad. Until I asked him when was the last time he took a bath and he mentioned a week ago. I asked him why. he said they were used to it because the weather in his country is cold. I don't know if it's true I have never been to Australia. But I think that is the reason why some foreigners smell so bad. Not saying all. Some of them.

Brother I am very sorry to hear that. I am a FILIPINO myself. Our culture are very particular with HYGIENE and smell. smell on the body and smell on the mouth. We grow up of taking a bath EVERYDAY (full shower- a shampoo on the head and a soap on the body). Filipino babies are already in bathing rituals everyday BUT a used of a lukewarm water in a basin. Bacteria in the body can cause a bad odor. In the western, eastern middle east, africa and some other asian like chinese, and indians they dont take their babies on bathing EVERYDAY especially if it is a newborn. If we go outside under the heat of the sun, we usually changed our clothes or do shower. For us, sweating can cause bad odor. Mostly filipinos had HALF BATH (meaning- showering the body with soap but not the head before going sleep at night.) Two types of rituals : 1) Full bath in the morning before going to work, schools or any activities 2) Half bath in the night before sleep due to some activities on the day. Others would take 3 baths if it is summer. Our parents since childhood will shout us if we don't take a bath because we believe in cleanliness. Among ASIAN country, filipinos observed bathing EVERYDAY. I could smell two (2) nationalities having bad smell on their armpit in 20 or 50 meters away in an open air. It cause me severe headache especially if they are using perfume, the mixtures cause me severe headache. Its normal for us to be frank with other filipinos if they smell bad and says please take a bath BUT not to foreigners to avoid insult. Racism is not part on our culture. We just dont like bad smell. If a filipino has a bad smell, it is a questions

South East Asian culturally are clean and take a bath often. They tend to have very sensitive noses to body odor. So please if go there, use antiperspirant and bath often especially if you go to crowded places. Also they will not want to embarrass you so they give you a signal by holding their noses or go to the other side of the room. In Thailand they would ask, have you showered or not yet? Many foreigners would take offense at that, but they are just concern for you. Because it is hot and humid there and a shower makes you more comfortable. When you know the culture you will not be so easily offended.

I think, bad body odor always smells bad regardless of color eh? Sometimes, your own nose just get immune to your own body odor, so you cannot clearly distinguish if you smell bad or not. There are even people who will cover their odor with so much perfume, which, by itself, becomes suffocating also. You cannot always point this to racism. Who are you to question people for covering their nosel, just so you dont feel offended? I am a Filipino and I had been with all race of people. I tell you, I dont care what color your skin is, if you smell bad, i will cover my nose or go away from you.

Most Black people don't like to not take a bathe or shower daily in comparison to white people and Asian people who might take a shower or bathe ounce every 5 days. Facts! This had nothing to do with interracial relationships. And hell white men have been over there for years dating Filipino women with no complaints and they are known to have the worst body odor of anybody but yet I never heard or seen a case where a white man felt he was being racially discriminated against by the Filipino people! I've never seen Asian people really make fun of white people! It's like Asian people are afraid of white people or they worship them or something. But I guess they feel that they can mock black people and feel good about themselves. But the people in the Philippines need to realize that it is the Black Filipinos who are the Original Filipinos. Tell Asian people to grow some balls and mock white people for a change because We Black people in America do it all the time! 😆😅😝😂🤣!

I'm a Filipino, and I apologize on behalf of my countrymen who does this although this thing not only happen to Africans but also to other nationalities especially in enclosed spaces such as elevators, buses, metro and cars. The thing is when people sweat, odour also comes out and sometimes it is really intolerable. I was guilty of covering my nose once or twice in elevator going to and coming home from work but that time I was under chemotherapy and my sense of smell elevated to the highest level that I feel nauseated sensing even a slightest bad odour. Not all Filipino meant to discriminate or humiliate when they do this but it is true that there are those who are really rude with attitudes. On the other side though, paying attention to good personal hygiene doesn't hurt and boosts ones self esteem.

Hey not trying to be funny but I took a flight on Ethiopia airlines. To the Saudi Arabia. And the west Africans where well dressed and looked nice and clean. But some of them didn’t wear deodorant. In Ethiopia I didn’t smell that. But while in Mecca and Madina and on the fight back. West Africans and Indians has that musty smell. They seemed like nice people but no deodorant.

The Philippines treats Black people far better than other nations. You will face racism anywhere you go, it is unavoidable. It is the extent of racism is what you need to compare it to. Don't judge the whole culture by the actions of the few. It's not like Black nations in Africa treat other Black people equally, go figure.
