The answer is provided right there in the dialog - "Don't think; you just have to believe!" Easy as cake. This interpretation is confirmed by the fact it's on Adult Swim, where reality is the exception, not the rule. Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell is another show that discourages over-interpretation.

holy crap this is a masterpiece of comedy

I was teaching today and the story was Daedalus and Icarus. We got to the part where Icarus had fallen out of the sky and Daedalus was looking for him. Ovid calls him "the father, well now not a father" and it hit me that Denny Boffa is based off of Daedalus.
