    I had the honor of meeting Dr. Brooks at a talent recruiting event at RTP in 1976 and I also have the dubious distinction of having declined Dr Brooks' personal admonition to me that I pursue a doctoral track at UNC in what was then called, DP (data processing). Oh, had I only listened to that sage advice. On that same day I would also decline a job offer from Jim Goodnight who was just putting together the SAS Institute- later simply known as SAS. Oh, had I only listened to sage job offers.
