Welcome to being an average NFL fan. Not a lot of AFC teams have gotten a SB in the last 20 years to begin with, let alone a Hall of fame QB, count yourself lucky. (I do as a Colts fan) "We just haven't been the same since our HoF QB a decade ago" is not a depressing spot to be in. Nobody under 50 was even alive to see the Steelers dynasty, expectations are just too high with you guys, just like Dallas (Tho their dynasty was more recent)

If you want to make excuses, or reasons, for Russ' problems in Denver, you have plenty of ammo He had a head coach in Year 1 who is so bad, only Aaron Rodgers would hire him, and not to be a head coach. In Year 2, he had a defense so bad, they gave up 70 points in a game, and 30 on a regular basis. And he had a head coach who didn't believe in him from the jump.

Secondly, when does Pete Carroll get to take some heat for his failures to win in the playoffs? Russ is gone for two years, and Pete gets fired. The Seahawks brass knew he wasn't going to take them to any great success without Russ. Thee Seahawks' 2022 9-8 record was inflated by about 6 wins. As far as the limited playoff success the Seahawks had, Pete blew the draft repeatedly between 2014 and 2021, and he blew those playoff games, not Russ. Did you ever WATCH those games. Every single loss was on Pete Carroll. Pete wasn't a very good coach. Russ carried him. As far as the LoB goes, since when do QBs win SBs without good defenses or a really explosive, loaded offense?

And when they were terrible early in the season, defense was one of the worst in NFL history, so it sounds like you're saying Russ is just average and not the reason they won or lost in most games. It's all because he used to be really good. Geno Smith gets lauded all the time, and he's like 20th AT BEST, but because the expectations were low, Geno gets treated like a top tier QB. Russ was HORRIBLE value for Denver, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't even be a starter anywhere.

as a Pittsburgh fan, I can only rationalize our front office's comments as one of 2 possibilities: 1. coaching staff sees something in pickett that non-playing analysts simply just don't understand, and Pickett is legitimately an option worth exploring for one last season. 2. coaching staff understands there are MARGINALLY better options than Pickett, but either hate what they'd have to do to the rest of the roster to make it work, or thinks that the other QB options aren't really much better than Pickett and aren't willing to sacrifice the cap space/draft capital. Khan was solid last year in his first year as GM. I've got to maintain faith that the team isn't completely lost.

In the 2022-23 NFL regular season, Russell Wilson secured the 21st position among all starting quarterbacks in the league which placed him in the middle of the pack. NFL quarterbacks do have their own space or quarterback room a/k/a office to mentally prepare, watch films, and meet with their team members one-on-one to improve performance! The Denver Broncos didn't like Russell Wilson. I hope Russell Wilson land in the Pittsburgh.

I miss Cris Carter and Jenna Wolfe, but Nick Wright, Kevin Wildes and Chris Broussard have great chemistry. They've taken First Things First to new heights. As for the Russell Wilson debacle, you can blame Denver's general manager George Paton for making too many concessions and caving in to outrageous contractual demands. I also blame Mark Rodgers, Russell Wilson's agent for what happened in Denver. Aggressive greed got Mark Rodgers and Russell Wilson an absurdly huge contract--and expectations that Wilson couldn't possibly live up to.

This has low-key r@cial overtones. You use the word "mobility" but it's pretty easy to understand what you mean. Russ never relied solely on his mobility. Cam Newton did. Secondly, Russ is one of the smartest QBs ever. There's no way you have the kind of 4th quarter success that he has had over his career, even in some games with the Broncos, without having a high IQ. Btw, career 4th quarter passer rating (Minimum 3,000 passing attempts) correlates more strongly with a QB's HoF prospects than any other metric. Guess where Russ ranked all-time among QBs drafted from 1993 to 2021: he was #1! After one bad season with the Broncos and one average one, he still ranks #3 among those same QBs and can take back his top spot with two good years.

However I must give credit to Kevin who did his research and mentioned something VERY significant that got completely glossed over Russell's 1st year in Denver. He was playing hurt. His knee which need surgery and a torn lat which is no joke. That definitely impacted his game. I feel context is important when discussing his 1st season in Denver. He didn't just fall off a cliff. Also, 60% of the starters on the team were injured. Now pair that with a 1st time HC that was clueless and you get the season you got. What Russ did wrong was not sit out some games to recover. But that doesn't matter anymore. I believe he was never meant to be a Bronco. He will be starting on another team as soon as he is officially available.
