Broken Pipe Extractor

Broken Pipe Extractor? I don't think so if you clicked on this video you most likely have a broken pipe thread. This is an updated version of an older video I did a few years back (2013) and in this video, I'll try to clarify the process of removing that broken or snapped-off piece of pipe. One thing for sure is you'll need a nipple extractor, hack-saw, mini hack-saw, and a caping chisel, to get the job done!

    Hi Bob Thank you for making this video. It probably saved us a small fortune. I did notice that the Husky Internal Pipe Cleaner extractor worked better when the inside of the broken pipe was very clean and using a socket and wrench made progress much faster. The broken pipe did not move at first however persistence finally pulled it out of the brass flange. Do not give up trying to remove the broken piece and you will be successful. Thank you. Barry

    I don’t think you mentioned it in the video and it may be irrelevant to most people but A and D are what I would call internal pipe wrenches. The difference being, an internal pipe wrench can tighten as well as loosen. I’ve used the A version with some success as long as it’s not too tight. The C ones are worthless. I don’t think they could get out a hand tight nipple. It’s funny you mention B and D as what you use because the guy I learned under had those. With the type B, we didn’t call them nipple extractors. We called them ease outs. As for D, what I would call an internal pipe wrench, it is hands down the best. I wish I knew where to get some. I looked online a few years ago and found one but they wanted $80 for one. I’ve gotten along fine without it so I’m not paying that much. Anyway they called it something else. I wanna say they called it some sort of pipe vice. Whatever the wording was I got the impression it was used to thread short nipples. Nipples less than 6” where a normal threading vice won’t work

    Hi, Bob. Thanks for your video. Do you have advice for installing a brass close nipple in a wall (slightly recessed) for mounting a flush tub spout. Do they make these with reverse threads to install/tighten a nipple?

  • @BobsPlumbingVideos

    @BobsPlumbingVideos

    2 жыл бұрын

    To my knowledge I've never seen a reverse extractor. I basically mount the nipple to the spout and tighten it by hand. You may have to step up to a shoulder nipple or greater depending on the wall thickness . Also depends on how much Teflon you're using as to how tight it gets.

    I just did this yesterday and used an NPT-thread tap. They’re a little hard to find but I got a set at Harbor Freight that has come in very handy. You engage the rotted stub with the tap and either power through it, or engage it enough so that when you back the tap up every quarter of a turn, the stub comes along with it.

    @cedr777 DeNiro is an elitist asshat that believes "guns for me but not for thee." Mr.Sessa,God bless him and his family,does not strike me as an elitist.DeNiro doesn't believe that law abiding Americans should be armed and thus have the ability to defend their loved ones and themselves but it's perfectly acceptable for him and his communist left-leaning flunkies to own firearms.I have no regard or respect for anyone that believes that his/her life is so much more important than the lives of everyone else and therefiore more deserving of protection than everyone else.To add insult to injury DeNiro is a multi millionaire that can easily afford armed body guards which from what I understand DeNiro does have.DeNiro owns firearms and has a firearms permit,this from a man such as DeNiro that has made his fortune from movies depicting him using all manner of fireamrs yet this man,DeNiro,believes that everyone else except for him and his communist left-leaning flunkies should be denied the right to be armed to defend their family and themselves should the need ever arise.As a licensed locksmith in NYC I am authorized to modify,open and repair locks on government buildings if I am called to do so but even with a clean record such as mine and having passed background checks NYC legislators do not deem me law abiding enough to own and carry a firearm,how's that fior a great big kick in the ass?Here in PA I applied for,passed a background check and received a LTCF (License To Carry Firearms.).In NYC you have to hire a lawyer and spends thousands of dollars to apply for a firearms permit which you very well may not get after having spent several thousand dollars plus the application fee for a firerarms permit which alone will cost you several hundred dollars that are non-refundable when you get denied a firearms permit.Here in PA a LTCF costs only twenty dollars and is good for five years.I left NYC going on over thirteen years ago because of how extremely dangerous and extremely expensive NYC is and I thank God (blessed and praised be HIs name,Amen.) I had the means with which to leave NYC because NYC is now worse than it ever was.Last I heard on the news crime and shootings in NYC have increased by one hundred and seventy five percent in spite of NYC having some of the most restrictive gun laws in America,that is because the communist left-leaning tyrants running NYC only care about protecting the criminals and to hell with law abiding Americans that happen to live in NYC.It should come as no surprise to anyone why people are leaving NYC in droves because NYC has become a shit hole in every sense of the word.Over a million NYC residents dependent on food pantries now and the scumbag tyrant cuomo seen on national television begging the rich to return to NYC offering to cook dinner for them,have them over to his house for coffee and offering to take them out to lunch at his own expense huh?The people of NYC have nobody but themselves to blame for the sorry state that NYC is in because the people of NYC keep voting for self serving egotistical,ego-maniacal tyrants such as cuomo and his ilk.Here in PA we have crime but nothing remotely akin to what the crime is in NYC because here in PA we law abiding Americans are well armed unlike NYC where people have allowed their so-called elected officials to disarm them and turn all the people of NYC into potential victims,good luck with that because the supreme court has and continues to rule that police have no Constitutional duty/obligation to defend/protect anyone,read it for yourself.: mises.org/power-market/police-have-no-duty-protect-you-federal-court-affirms-yet-again#:~:text=%E2%80%9CNeither%20the%20Constitution%2C%20nor%20state%20law%2C%20impose%20a,at%20the%20University%20of%20Florida%20School%20of%20Law. The police in NYC and in many other states have no Constitutional duty/obligation to defend/protect anyone so who can the people of NYC depend on to protect them?The police can seldom respond to calls for help in a timely manner so who is going to protect you if you happen to live in NYC and fall victim to criminals?: nypost.com/2013/01/27/city-says-cops-had-no-duty-to-protect-subway-hero-who-subdued-killer/
