Broken Down Potting Shed Themed Enclosure for Garter Snakes!

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In today's video I'm making 2 broken down potting shed themed enclosures for my garter snakes, Daryl and Carol. They've lived in the same enclosure together since they were born 4 years ago. I've loved watching how they interact with each other and the bond they've formed between them. The problem is, Carols already given birth to 2 litters in the last 2 years and I think it's time that her body needs a break. So, for now, I'm separating them into separate enclosures. I'm really happy with how these 2 enclosures turned out. They turned out to be a good replication of where a garter snake might live right in your garden. I hope you enjoy the video.

Not really a fan of snakes, but this was a really good video. Can't wait to see what comes next!

Thanks, I really appreciate that. I can understand not being big on the snakes. But I have seen people who were afraid of snakes and then fell in love with their friend’s snake after getting to know it.😀

Quick question, is it ok to get isopods from outside for my anole vivarium? I see you said you got some from your garden in this video which makes me ask but folks on Reddit seem to think it’s not sterile. I’ll take your advice over the reddit people anyday!😂

Well , I appreciate that. Although, I could always be wrong, although I’ve only used field collected isopods for years in any bioactive enclosures from tarantulas to snakes and tree frogs, and I’ve never had any problems. I believe that the whole sterilizing thing is an outdated husbandry myth that a lot of people are stuck on. I do make sure I collect them in places that are clean and healthy and chemical free..

@@WonderfulWorldReptiles makes a lot of sense. I think maybe the people selling them and that industry doesn’t want you to go get them from outside so they can profit but that’s my cynicism speaking ☺️. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and wonderful videos brother!

@@Stumpwater27 No. That's not the issue at all. The issue is that wild isopods (or anything wild, really) have the potential to carry parasites, bacteria, or viruses. Now, the chances that the nasties on wild isopods can transfer to dissimilar species like anoles is low, and many people just throw stuff into their vivs from outside and have no issues. Some people have had awful results from that practice - such as giving their frogs infections or unknowingly introducing a whole herd of centipedes that hatched from eggs, then ended up eating all their isopods. Then again, your chances of something catastrophic happening are probably very low. Some people are very cautious and prefer not to take any risks - it really is up to you and how risk-tolerant you are.
