I stumbled across your excellent review here. I recall having very mixed feelings about its homophobia, I had to continually remind myself it was a period piece. It was a bit hard to swallow in '05, me having been out for decades with two longtime loves under my belt. But I remember my personal, almost suicidal, struggles in the 60s all too well. Still, an emotionally charged Shakespearean tale of love and tragic loss in the vein of so many gay films that we girls seem to relish through the tears. I remember being particularly troubled by Ennis' final words and would have changed them to, "Jack, I'm sorry." The symbolism of Ennis' shirt forever hugging Jack's in his lonely closet as life goes on without him is heartbreaking and had me crying all the way home. I get out my DVD once a year religiously and re-watch this classic tale and it always leaves me sobbing.

The best review of this movie I've ever seen. Bravo, so well put. It's always wonderful to see someone truly understand everything that a movie was going for.

thank you for this! I recently dusted off and watched my Brokeback Mountain DVD that I haven’t watched since probably 2007 myself and it wrenched my heart all over again, wow. and now i’m looking up reviews on YT lol. also i noticed that the film shows Ennis’ daughter Alma Jr. being the only one that seems to come away happy in the end which was cute🤗

This movie makes me feel so depressed. I just went to sleep in the day that I whatch it, and when i weke up, the first think that came in my head was that Ennis and Jack could not be togheter in this life anymore and it shoot me me in limbo again. Every time I see something about this movie I enter in heartbroken Mode 🤧🥺 I love this film. It makes me suffer, but yeat it's so good :(

I'm going to say, it's one of the best films of all time, it really is one of the most relatable sensitive compassionate surreal cinematic experiences out there, it feels real in every aspect. It might be hard for just anyone to appreciate the film from afar, but watching it one will see that it isn't intentionally poetic it's just an honest depiction of real life. Not sure how to describe its value, except in its purity. One of my favorite films

Omg yes! There should totally be an Oscar for best scene! Isn’t that how must of us describe a film anyway; „this or that scene was awesome…“

I'd totally be down for a 'Best Scene' Oscar being introduced, because the 'I wish I knew how to quit you' scene amazes me every time. Ridiculously powerful acting from both of them 😩

All of the characters were victims of the social stigma in that era when homosexuality was perceived as something so bad and shameful and lynching could be carried out should anyone was known to be homosexual. Ennis loved Jack and was extremely worried if their relationship was known to others because he didn't want Jack and himself to be killed. Ennis' final words in the movie "Jack, I swear.', to me, is something equal to "Yes, I do" at the solemnisation of a wedding ceremony. I just have a question: Do you think that Jack's death was caused by Lureen's father? Could he be the one who asked those homophobs to beat and kill Jack?

Thanks for your comment, all beautifully put! When I watch it I tend to lean more towards Lureen's dad killing Jack. It's apparent that her dad really doesn't like Jack for putting him in his place when he comes over for dinner. Plus Jack is more open than Ennis when it comes to his sexuality, he made less of an effort to hide it so that's another factor that could play into it. I think the beauty of this film is that the ending is open to interpretation and that no one really knows for sure! Again thanks for commenting, it's nice people still watch this video when it came out 3 years ago and I was very shy on camera 😅

No one who was involved in this film expected much. The two young men didn't realize the problem they were touching and the director thought it was just a little film. The wave it made afterwords shocked them all. I think that's why they got AFTA prizes at the time and not Oscars.

You are right and I'm so glad it did better than what they thought it would. It was a really important film at the time and still is today. I'm still not over the fact that it lost Best Picture to Crash. I think everyone acknowledges how much of a mistake that was now😅

I think sin city was in the same category and I’ve never seen sin city but don’t think it’s even remotely in the same category This film 🎥 is an out & out love story between to gorgeous Male cowboys And it’s arguably a better love story than Titanic 🛳

Crash is a powerful movie, about people who's decisions effect other people, side by side with BBM I can see why it won, but it clearly didnt have the legs BBM was ever going to have, Ange Lee has gotten much recognition and they probably didnt want to seem elitist and give it to him Something I didn't believe with the film is the wives being so distraught, I'm of the opinion that they might of been understanding, I think that was a Hollywood cliche and I honestly don't like that depiction in the film I also think the wives might of suspected them pretty early on, hiding femininity is easy, it's almost impossible, I think it would have been pretty obvious to both of them, at least as a suspicious, then they'd find evidence and it'd be obvious, they're also men and don't hide things as well as women I think this creator could have used some advice in hindsight, and that's not to sexualize the actors in a film ones doing a review of, it hurts ones credibility and is condescending to the audience, almost arrogant in a way, it's also not a very feminist thing to do either It's a pretty awkward review considering this is social political topic that seems to be sort of cast in this strange light of, envy I imagine, assuming she likes the actors in an intimate way, it's just weird to watch. I love the movie but this is honestly the worst way to review a movie possible, also the background is pretty unfortunate, it doesn't seem like she's even sitting in a chair, maybe cause she couldn't sit still while she made the review, it could use a redo The word that comes to mind for me is integrity, this review has no integrity, and that's especially weird because the movie does, the themes do, this person understands those things clearly enough, but I guess that's why it hasn't been watched much, that's for good reason without a doubt I also wouldn't script emotional moments into a review This person obviously didn't watch Crash, that's what's clear halfway through the video If she ever wanted me to play match maker id say forget about it, get some cats
