I think Merlyns verse on If You Pray Right was aimed at skepta, apparently he asked skepta for a feature on iridesence (merlyn was a big fan + they were recording on london, i think it was going to be on 'where the cash at' which would explain why it ended up being so short) and something happened where it didnt come through. Skepta's next album used the same thermal cam on the album cover that iridesence did, which would explain the first 2 lines of merlyns verse. Also in the music video for IFPR Merlyn uses a LOT of the same gestures and facial expressions that were on skeptas album cover
@nicksimons7391

Feel like people don’t understand the story of GINGER. This is how I perceive it, maybe this album just hits home for me idk. They come into the album knowing there is something wrong, but aren’t sure how to express this feeling. They try to hide from it, shown in BOY BYE, but to no avail (Negative lyrics shown in a positive light). The slowthai track represents them doing drugs/alcohol (Kevin talks about doing drugs in ARIZONA BABY) to hide from their true feelings. St Percy and IYPR proceeds to represent the band as drunk, goofy, angry (video for IYPR). The drugs “wear” off in the second half of IYPR, leaving them in a hungover state. Kevin beats himself up wondering why is he doing this to himself, leading up to DEARLY DEPARTED where they let everything out. The rest of the album is accepting what has happened and who they are now, realising that everyone has problems moving on.

Yeah, GINGER is in my top 5.
This is what review channels should be. Your comparison of Iridescence and Ginger was absolutely spot on. Incredible that you've listened to their entire collection in a week.
this album was a true work of art
React to Arizona Baby by Kevin Abstract, it’s his recent album. Opens up a lot on there.
After that Album i wished BH would hug me, or just somebody it leaves you with such a Smooth and loved Feeling idk if its just me but i felt like on iredidesince they let out all their Frustration and Problems in a more darker and harder way and this Album is like the calm After the Storm like they realised that life just has Problems and that speaking to others is a good solution for Feeling better like through all their Albums its like they told a life Story and this Album is like "yeah this is me/us"
the phrase I'd use to describe this album is "reluctantly cathartic"
Apparently Merlyn's verse on IYPR was aimed at Skepta for potentially copying the iridescence style for his album cover, as they wanted him to feature on the album but he didn't end up doing so. Also, in the music video Merlyn poses in ways very similar to those seen on Skepta's album cover. This is only something I read but it all adds up

Merlyn has some outstanding verses sprinkled throughout all of the bands albums. For example: milk, swim, Tonya, if you pray right... I think they get overlooked sometimes because he usually is the hype man, just going crazy. Never heard you discuss a Merlyn verse Jon

I feel the Saturation trilogy set such a high standard and I feel like the last two BROCKHAMPTON albums have, instead of trying to live up to that standard, set a new one with a more introspective and alternative shoegaze lo-fi hip hop vibe.

Just finished listening to the album. Ready for this
Finally got around to watching this reactuon BH week has been crazy and i love the new album so much boutta grab some popcorn and settle in to the hardest working channel in the game react to some Fiyahh
When this album came out I was at my cousins I went downstairs to find him sitting with it playing we went straight back to the beginning and just listened we got to Saint Percy when my sister came down , we listened up to boy bye and got in the car on an 3 and a half hour car journey . Listening to it on the way there and the amount of memories I have with the albumn , from the first three and ginger bring the songs I listened to all summer love me for life and saint Percy together in autumn and finally victor roberts in December this album is beautiful it helped me through so much
Thanks for all the great videos this week Jon! I've listened to Ginger about 3 times and i gotta say it is growing on me more as i listen. I don't know where it will end up in my best albums of 2019 or how it would rank with the rest of their discography yet, but I'll definitely be listening to it a lot. So for next artists that we need a season for i recommend MF DOOM (including alias' Viktor Vaughn, King Geedorah, Danger Doom, KMD), JPEGMAFIA, clipping, Flying Lotus (including Captain Murphy). Also King Krule if you haven't heard of him, he seems right up your alley.
I've been watching through all the brockhampton season vids today, and I cant find your review of iridescence anywhere, did something happen to it?
Ahh I love your channel. You love the same elements I do in many of your reviews and bring up great points. But you also challenge and frustrate me sometimes when you listen to most my favorite songs you don't care for em (like sugar or big boy which was probablymy 2 fav on the album. So its always a love, hate, tug of war type of discussion within me while watching yo videos, but thats what opinions are for.. Which keeps me coming back, cause I agree with the perspectives you give and hear stuff I never heard before but I overall love your analysis on music. Much love and good vibes to ya brotha.
This has been the best week thanks to you JD! No one works as hard as the Prophet💪🏼 You have to check out Kevin Abstract’s ‘Arizona Baby’ next!

Don't get me wrong, I like Simon but you were always my favorite part of Rock Reacts and I watched since your second or third month as a channel. Your wonderful reactions to the Brockhampton and Kendrick albums(admittedly the only I've seen on your personal channel) are fantastic watches. I sincerely hope you keep this channel going because I thoroughly enjoy your opinions and insights on music. There's only one other music reviewer/reactor that I watch. I don't want to be one of those people who spams your comments with reaction suggestions(I think I left just one on all of the Rock Reacts channel), but I'd eagerly suggest you listen to Royalty by Childish Gambino. If you've already heard it, I get it. But it has some of his best bars and most introspective lyrics as well as some relatively early features from artists such as Danny Brown, Chance the Rapper(pre-Acid Rap), and Nipsey Hustle. There's also a couple Wu Tang features and Bun B for good measure. If you haven't heard it, it's my favorite Childish Gambino project even though I recognize Because The Internet as his best in an objective sense. Also, Sat II=Iridescence>Sat 1>Ginger>Sat 3 and I haven't heard All American Trash yet. Also Kevin Abstract's Arizona Baby is a good album but not quite as good as his work with Brockhampton. If you want to understand the bridge between Iridescence and Ginger, you should listen to Arizona Baby by Kevin, it's sort of like a full direction change and I see a lot of Kevin's solo style in Ginger, in terms of music and production. Also it's unlikely you'll see a ton of solo work, don't even know if Arizona really counts to their contract, but they're contracted to do 6 albums in 2 years I think, so all the lyrics about being trapped are probably down to that; likely this will be followed up real soon.
