Every time I watch this episode that Ian guy winds me up a bit more.
Pulled out of the deal at the last minute...the guy is a sadist - his family LOVED that place!

I agree wholeheartedly. He seems selfish and blind to his family.
Relationships Relationships Relationships. It's more about how homebuyers relate to each other, make decisions, and deal with stress -- and how Pip and Kirstles handle them -- than about properties.
I swear, with these shows, I am FAR more knowledgeable about the UK and European realty market than my own home country. I could never afford a house locally anyway, so it's fun to dream. I keep forgetting, though, how out-of-date the YT episodes of these shows are (over 10 years! Some of these couples' babies are grown by now, I'm sure). Still fun, though.
I can tell that, even nice Phil, thinks Ian is a twit. As for the young couple, he needs to ditch Sophie for a non spoiled brat.
I must say Kirsty, you both do very well trying to show what the buyer could benefit from each house. And the views are just spectacular compared to living in Florida.
Did you see the look on the face of the woman when her husband said no to the old medieval house. She was not happy! Phil hit it bang on - this guy is all about himself. Very controlling. And what people let their kids run around and play with the vendor's stuff?? Very intrusive.

A family came to see our house when we had it on the market. When we got home it was obvious that the kids had jumped on the beds and one of them had used the bathroom and left poop smears on the toilet seat and in the bowl. My brand new towels were bunched up and left damp by the bathroom sink. They broke a lampshade and an expensive bathroom faucet. I told our Realtor that they were not welcome in our home again.

Sophie needs to grow up and I get the feeling this couple just aren’t mature enough to invest in a huge purchase as yet. As for Ian, he is strange and he seems very selfish as it’s all about his wants and desires and his family seem to take a back seat. There are some couples who I would have no patience with!

You say that like it's a bad thing. I want rich parents who will buy me stuff! Where do I sign up?! Being poor sucks, lol. And it doesn't matter if I earn everything myself, everyone will just say that I have rich parents anyway! So why not take all the handouts you can get if people are going to claim you came from a family anyway?!
Thank you thank you thank you for these!!!!!!!!!!! They MAKE MY DAY!!! I am GRATEFUL!!!
It's fair enough to be fussy about buying a flat/house, after all, it will be one's home for a long time. I spent 6 months searching and at the end I bought one where I stayed for 27 years.
As a former real estate agent myself, and seller, I hate people who find it difficult to commit. We do have one thing to prevent buyers from backing out here in the US that Britain doesn't seem to have? I was selling our home, and had already dropped the price $15k off the already signed contract, and agreed upon selling price. Two separate times one at $10K, and another at $5K due to BS really, the buyers were just trying to get the best price, and I was behind the 8 ball facing foreclosure if this deal didn't go through. We're 4 weeks in on a 60 day escrow, and their agent comes at me with another $10K off demand due to more BS as the agent had figured out I was an easy touch due to my financial problems. The buyer had put down $3000K as part of the contract, and this time I stood firm, and told the agent to hold that 3 grand as I wasn't budging this time! The deal went through, I got my $100K profit, and happily left that property for greener pastures. There should be some consequence when a buyer backs out, and there is in the US! Unfortunately, there is not much recourse for the buyer when a seller backs out. In both cases you can force the contract in court, but rarely do people go that far. 😎👍✌🎄🎅

in the Netherlands neither seller nor buyer can "freely" brake the verbal contract of the deal. It's gonna take a good reason AND up to 10% of the price to get out of it.

That's what earnest money is for (in the U.S.). If the buyer backs out and breaks the contract, the seller keeps the earnest money--many times 5% -10% of the purchase price.

@@happydays1336 In my case the house cost me $117K, but I sold it 3 years later for $230K, and it was a cash deal. I later found out this scumbag married an Indian girl, and used her dowry to pay for the house. He was then sued by her, and that's all I know about the situation. Had that experience before! It's not so much Ian didn't follow through with the purchase, it's the smug sneaky way he did it. Often buyers do opposite of what they lead you to believe, they are young and a party pad may work for them longer than you think. Good work guys!

The young man needs to set her straight. It is his parents money to get it. It is his first place. No one stays in their first place they fix it up n move up. Spoiled brats with no vision or brains.😮
Both terrible sets of househunters. Ian is a control freak, and his wife a pushover. Just wants the status of being in Broadstairs without paying the price cause he can't afford it. Meanwhile that Sophie is a spoilt brat who just wants a party pad to show off to her mates and forced her boyfriend into paying an obscene amount of money into a property which you can add only minimal value for a short amount of time. Phil and Kirstie both have the patience of saints; I would've told the pair of them to jog on.

No he isn't. It's actually creepy (and scary).
In these episodes so many of the couples are only cohabitating. Financially it's not smart to co-buy homes as single couples because their commitment to each other isn't 100%. If it were, they'd get married. (At least if they were married and got divorced there's legal recourse when it comes to finances and home ownership.) Women shouldn't purposely put themselves into this situation. Men, either, of course, but I wouldn't be surprised if most of these women have it in the back of their minds that they'll end up marrying the men they're buying homes with. The men might just walk out and leave the women with the burden of making the mortgage payments. (Of course, it could be the opposite, but I think the average woman is more likely to make a serious commitment than the average man is.) I might be overgeneralizing, but it's just my observation watching these couples.
