Fascinating how they redid all the same scenes but just worse. It really doesn’t carry the same energy, feels so toned down, as if someone retold all the scenes from memory

Something that doesn’t get brought up enough is the way Tennant’s thick Scottish accent contrasts with the way everyone else speaks, further emphasising the fact that he’s an outsider. Tennant just having a regular-ass American accent for Gracepoint completely misses the point in that regard

It's weird and interesting listening to David speak with an American accent. It's good, it's mostly passable, but there is that faint, ever so subtle residual lilt, where it _almost_ sounds like he's about to slip; and it has the effect of kind of giving him this sort of subtle, trace southern inflection on certain words.

oooooh no i do NOT like david's american accent. i've seen a lot of people say it's bad (it isn't), it's just really unsettling. he sounds like a youth pastor, or someone in that realm of "business". he sounds MUCH more intimidating in _broadchurch_ with his scottish accent. well - to a certain degree, i take that back. in _broadchurch,_ because it's his natural accent, he sounds much more comfortable and more able to ease into the character. like, i feel like he _is_ alec hardy. here, in _gracepoint,_ he sounds too angry, like a shitty conservative. alec hardy seems (somewhat) normal whereas emmett carver here just seems off-putting. nothing against david's performance! i think he still gives his all and i'm sure it was hard to get the american accent right and to try to make carver a different character from hardy. however, i think we can all agree that _broadchurch_ is the clear victor in terms of which show is better.

I’m American and NO ONE I know needed Broadchurch to be remade with a lower budget, worse actors, and an American accent 😭 American audiences didn’t ask for this lol. International media is hugely popular here. Also… I love how they changed “for God’s sake” to “for crying out loud,” it makes Tennant sound like a peeved Christian dad 😂 Completely undercuts the seriousness of the moment. Maybe they thought American audiences are more religious and would get offended by “taking the Lord’s name in vain?” 🙄 Edit: Just got to the part where the American actress is kicking the lockers and says “BITCH” and it sounds like a sixth grader just learning they can swear jc
