Actually the term 'friend zone' had already been out it was in Friends episode 7 of season 1 which came out in 1994, and this song came out in 2000, so the 'friend zone' was already a thing...

I don't get the impression of friendzoning in the typical sense though. The lyrics make it seem like really she does have a huge crush on him too but she's having trouble admitting it and committing to him. "But to lose all my senses, that's just so typically me" seems like denial.

They did it because they thought she wasn't mentally stable when she had her breakdown but it's known that they drugged her up to keep her unstable and now they keep pushing back the date of release of her conservatorship. It's meant to be reviewed soon though but she is nearly 40 and it's ridiculous, only people who severely can't look after themselves should be in a conservatorship. She was well enough for them to force her to go on tours and release albums yet they label her and not capable to look after herself.

Allegedly at the time they claimed she had dementia - which is most probably fake. She's been in this conservatorship for more than 10 years and her father as the conservator of her estate gains a lot of her money. If you speak Spanish I have a video in my channel that explains a lot of stuff that wasn't seen in the documentary.

@Dijon Mustard after her public mental breakdown she was put into a conservatorship by her father and a woman named Lou Taylor. Allegedly at the time they claimed she had dementia - which is most probably fake. She's been in this conservatorship for more than 10 years and her father as the conservator of her estate gains a lot of her money. If you speak Spanish I have a video in my channel that explains a lot of stuff that wasn't seen in the documentary.
