    i started british collection of notes but only getting 1 of each one rather than few of the same, no where near your quality and variety but getting there, just need the early notes now, £1 notes and 10 shillings from bradbury era but very high in value so might have to settle in just getting warren fisher. hoping one day to pass it down to kids, might be worth few quid more than i paid

    I just started with one of each type and before I knew it I was adding the different signatures. Those early ones are expensive and it is tempting to sacrifice quality to get one cheaply but if you are hoping for a return you probably want to get the best notes you can.

    Might be a couple of hundred quid depending on condition. Error notes regularly come up in auction, and a missing serial number is a pretty cool one. Often, these have the serial number handwritten.

    Did England have paper money prior to 1914? As the US Federal government started “printing” money as early as 1861 out of necessity due to coin shortages during the civil war, did England have paper money during the Victorian era or otherwise? I can only seem to find paper species starting 1914. Thank you!

  • @Daveyboyz1978

    @Daveyboyz1978

    Yes it goes back to 1694 if memory serves, handwritten notes that were so easily forged they rapidly began printing parts of them and by 1808 the serial numbers were printed. These tended to be branch issued notes which were a far larger sum than the average working man would ever handle. We had provincial banks too issuing their own notes but I haven't really got involved in those.

    Are the 1981 50 pound notes rare?

  • @Daveyboyz1978

    @Daveyboyz1978

    4 жыл бұрын

    Well at the time £50 was a lot of money and you only really saw them if you did a large withdrawal in the bank (cash points don't dispense £50 notes even now when they don't buy so much) So these were less common notes to see and I imagine most got cashed in because of the high value. They are quite expensive so that indicates some rarity but "rare" is not such a useful word... What is rare? To some its just a few known examples (clearly by that definition they aren't rare) to others it is more of a relative term... Compared to £1 notes they surely are rare.
