His heroism was only matched by his love for his brothers. This is the kind of patriot that our country was founded on. A true patriot! I was sobbing when I first saw this and saw he died. I prayed he would make it it but he gave the ultimate sacrifice. Greater love hath no man than he who lays down his life for his brother. May he rest in peace!

Important side note: When the title says recorded, it means caught on camera. The MOH goes all the way back to the American Civil War. The first soldier to receive the award was Army Private Jacob Parrott on July 17, 1843. His citation reads: “One of 19 of 24 men (including two civilians) who, by direction of Gen. Ormsby M. Mitchell, penetrated nearly 200 miles south into enemy territory and captured a railroad train at Big Shanty, Ga., in an attempt to destroy the bridges and track between Chattanooga and Atlanta.”

When the narrator says his actions earned his first medal of honor, then later says his second medal of honor, he's actually referring to medal of honor citations. That's the paperwork submitted saying this guy should get it. They passed a law back in WW2 that no one can receive more than one anymore.

John was married with 2 daughters . This was 2002 and it wasn’t until 2015 that the process and investigations were done for his nominations. President trump in 2018 flew John’s parents , wife and daufghers to the whitehouse . He was honored nationally and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor which his wife recieved for him.

I don't find this to be heart-warming, but rather I find it heartbreaking. How many men died to retrieve a dead body? That's the biggest tragedy in this whole story. If someone risked the lives of so many people to save my lifeless body, I swear that I'd find a way to haunt them from beyond the veil. Don't sacrifice anyone to save my carcass, I'm not there anymore. If however I'm still alive, by all means, please come and get me.
