    To answer your question about typical scores in college football, it depends on the conference. There are dozens of conferences with very loose regional correlations, and within each conference the teams tend to play similar styles of football. Some conferences are known for frequent high scores, and others are known for a slower pace of game. So when you hear someone say “This is a real Big 10 style of game” or “We have a classic SEC matchup here,” they’re referencing the different styles each conference is known for.

  • @sikksotoo
    @sikksotoo Жыл бұрын

    Great job on the reaction; correct on the 2 point conversion and the time out indicators. A #3 playing at #6 is typically a great matchup. Alabama is 187-21 in games since 2008. Any time they lose is a big deal.

    Such a great game. It's even better when you take into account the history of Tennessee vs. Alabama football. It's a bitter rivalry that's played every year in the 3rd weekend of October. For the last 15 years, Alabama has dominated both the entire college football landscape and Tennessee. Often times winning on miraculous plays. Tennessee put together a really good team this year, and headed into this game undefeated for the first time in a long time. The stakes were as high as they get for a mid-season college football game, with both teams trying to win the SEC and make it to the college football playoff. This is easily the best game I've ever watched for all of those reasons. Pure release from the fanbase to finally get a win against the greatest college football dynasty of all time in Alabama. Go vols!

    There is a rule called forward progress, where if the defense is pushing you back the ball is placed the furthest you were able to get for the next play

  • @marcanthony8873
    @marcanthony8873 Жыл бұрын

    Nuts is in common usage in America, as well. The rule around forward progress is you get credited for however far you made it before being PUSHED back by the opposing team. So if they get past the first down marker and are pushed back behind it, it is still a first down. However, if you, under your own power, choose to run backwards, you lose the forward progress. So occasionally you will see a wide receiver catch a ball and it will be good for a first down but then while trying to maneuver around a defender they go backwards and get tackled and then it isn’t a first down anymore. Then, you will see the coach on the sideline go berserk - especially if it’s 3rd or 4th down.

    Just to clarify, at 7:33 when you were talking about him getting back behind the first down marker, the rule is that once a ball carriers momentum has stopped and forward progress has deemed stopped by the officials, the play is then called dead and any push back after that dose not matter. I believe that this rule was put in place in order to help prevent injuries. Great reaction and video! I remember watching this game live, it was one of the better college games of last season!

    Well done. I watched this live on TV and couldn't believe it. Great game. At one point in the game, you asked (I think about the high scoring) is this normal? Made me laugh because what's normal in college football? One of the best things about college football is that every game and even situation is so different. Also when you said the term "nuts" is an English word for crazy, I think you were being sarcastic but I''m not 100% sure. Needless to say, Americans use this term frequently -- just another word in the English language that both countries use. Although we don't say bonkers quite as much as you. We wouldn't call a football game or a football play brilliant either.

    You boys have come a long way in your understanding of football. It seems like even if you're confused, between the 2 of you , you can reason it out. Most of the time you're correct now. Sometimes these replays can confuse people because they skip a lot of plays, like punts or kickoffs with short or no returns, or plays that are short gains on 1st or 2nd down. Full game watching helps the most. Announcers in-game are very helpful when you can hear everything they say. Quintessentially, the shenanigans are nuts.

    You do usually see higher-scoring, more offensive games at the collegiate level with how the clock runs and rules differentiate slightly. It's not unusual to see competitive games be in the high 30s to low to mid-40s and beyond sometimes. As with the rankings, its realistic that a game between the 3rd best team and 6th best team in the country ranked out of a 130 teams should be close. Sometimes that simply not how it goes and it can be a complete stomp, which is quite often the case when Alabama is involved. There were often times this season when the #1 team in the country Georgia this year would beat their opponent severely no matter who they were or where they were ranked.

    There is a football axiom that is good across all team sport.... Defense Wins Championships! So scoring averages lower the higher level you get. There's about 128 division 1 college football teams. The sports writers vote, the coaches vote, a computer program picks, and they get averaged together to give you the top 25 rated teams in college football. This happens every week officially starting on week 8 and goes till the end of year were in rankings basically turn to seeding for playoff!

    Hey, love the channel. You guys are picking it up fast. I'm American and I played played 10 years of football but started playing rugby at age 16. I had a scholarship to play rugby, but I remember how tough it was to pick up the rules when I started playing. So, I can relate to what you're doing... just in reverse. You're picking it up quick, so, good on you. One rule I haven't seen addressed in your other videos or comments or even the football 101 video is forward progress. And I think it's given you some confusion even tho you haven't recognized it. If the ball carrier is pushed backwards, they get credit for their "forward progress". That is to say, the ball gets placed at where they started going backwards. Unlike rugby where you go to the ground is where you're down. So, if you get past the first down, but then somebody pushes you backwards a few yards and you're tackled short of the first down, you get credit for where you were when contact was made. So, first down.

    games can be really high scoring the most points scored was a game was Georgia Tech v Cumberland in 1916 final score GT 222 Cumberland 0 and the most recent crazy scoring game (100 points or more…yes there is a list of 100 point college football games even though alot of them happened at the turn of the century in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s) is Central State beating Lane 101-0 in 1989. College Football has been high scoring since it was born.

    If you were wondering what the complaint was at 10:00 or so, that hands palms down waving away thing means "incomplete pass", e.g. the ball hit the ground before the guy caught it, so no gain of yards.

    In College and High School Football, the receiver only has to have one foot inbounds after solid possession and control of the ball. In the NFL professional league, the ball catcher has to have possession and control of the ball, then plant two feet inbounds and maintain control of the ball through the fall to the ground. If possession is interrupted, they have to re-establish two feet inbounds again. If they are falling to the ground, then any other body part equals two feet. If you are in a scrum moving forward, then hands and feet are permitted to touch the field, but any other body part ends the play immediately.

    Tennessee and Alabama are both proud schools with long histories of winning championships. The Tennessee Volunteers had fallen on hard times lately while the Alabama Crimson Tide was winning championship after championship. Since the states are neighbors and play each other every year that really hurt! Think of Liverpool v. Everton or Arsenal v. Tottenham. After 15 years of sometimes getting destroyed and sometimes getting within seconds of victory, The Vols finally broke through to win and the over 102,000 fans stormed the field in celebration!

    To clarify the punt at 6:16 - when a team punts, only the receiving team can catch the ball and run with it. If the kicking team touches it first, the ball is dead and the receiving team gets it where the kicking team touched it. BUT, if the receiving team touches the ball without managing to pick it up/catch it, it's a free ball. Anyone can get it. The first Alabama player got out of the way because there were so many Tennessee players close to him. He was worried about dropping the ball so he was going to let Tennessee touch it and Alabama would get it where it was touched. He was sacrificing a few yards by letting the ball roll for the security of not having to make the catch with someone in his face. This is very common. Unfortunately, the second Alabama player came in to pick it up, not realizing a Tennessee player was behind him. The Tennessee player hit him as he touched the ball, he dropped it, and it became a free ball that Tennessee recovered. Thus, Tennessee got the ball back. It should also be noted that if the ball touches ANY part of the body, it becomes a free ball. That's why the first Alabama player made such a drastic move to get away from it. There have been many instances of the ball bouncing in a weird way and grazing someone's leg as he's trying to get away from it, making it a free ball.

    Forward progress in effect. The ball is placed at the furthest progress you made if you are pushed back by defenders. If you run backwards and are tackled, then you are spotted at the tackle.

    Autumn is an all-around magical time of year in the US, certainly in the North/Southeast and Midwest. Parts of that are the cool temps, the comfort food, the foliage, the long drives, the shorter days--and definitely the college football in the backdrop of all that other stuff. If y'all ever make it this side of the pond at that time of year, even with a smaller ranked college team matchup (I think it's hard to get tix to the big games in Alabama, Michigan, Ohio, etc.,) you'd get that experience. Bring your appetites, your jumpers (sweaters), warm socks, your hiking boots, and open minds. I have a feeling you'd get a real kick out of it all. Good luck!

    We have a number of different polls every year, the most important is the College Football Playoff poll, who determines which teams make the tournament at the end of the season to win the championship. Any teams within 4-5 of each other are considered nearly even, especially because this game was in Tennessee.

    Forward Progress Rule: The line of scrimage moves forward at the spot of the ball (not the player) unless the ball carrier voluntarily moves backwards. If a ball carrier is forced backwards, then he keeps all forward progress gained before the reverse motion. This has major implications to clock management because if you run forward out of bounds, the clock stops...but if your progress is stopped and you are forced out of bounds going backwards, the clock keeps running because the play ended when your progress stopped being forward.

    Pass Interferance: The "Receiver" is permitted to go anywhere on the field without physical obstruction before they contact the ball. If a defender blocks, grabs or interferes with their voluntary motion before the ball is touched, then it is a major penalty and the offence gets a huge win by referee. *One exception is a "tipped" ball... if the ball has been thrown forward and is touched by any player after the QB lets it go, then it is basically a live ball and everyone can interfere with everyone else until the ball is possessed or if the ball touches the ground to become a dead play.

    You were asking "did they get him back?" when the runner had gotten the first down and was being pushed back, keep in mind it doesn't matter if he gets pushed back once he's gotten the first down. He still gets the first down. That is called "forward progress". Now, if he gets the first and runs back behind the first down marker on his own, and then gets tackled behind the first down marker, it isn't a first down, because he ran back on his own.

Utah were the underdigs and mounted an in credible comeback and took a massive risk with the game on the line which was successful. Utah's atmosphere is also one of the best in college football which only adds to the moment.

    I saw your reaction to the 2023 college football hype video and wanted to give some insight as to why it’s a greater spectacle than the nfl. 1. More locality for a more personal fan connection. Colleges are everywhere (130 FBS programs), but only 22/50 states have an NFL team. 2. Fanbases are often comprised of both local fans and former students who have more pride for their university and its unique traditions. Keep in mind that the larger universities can have greater than 35,000 undergrads. 3. It serves as a representation for the school, the TV exposure from a good football team can entice students to apply their and also brings in $ which is why there is also so much “theater”.

    Once you get yards it doesn’t matter if they push you back behind the line. You still keep the yards you’ve gained. The only time you will lose yards that you’ve already gained is if you decide to go back yourself. Sometimes players do this if they think they see another angle or hole open that can get them more yards
