This is coming from a diehard Florida Gator fan where we have our own traditions so it may sound like sacrilege to some, but the best tradition in college football is at Iowa. Since the completion of the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital overlooking Kinnick Stadium, Iowa has honored the young patients in an extremely unique way. At the end of the first quarter of every home game, both home and away fans, coaches and players turn and face the hospital and wave (those in the stands during night games usually with lighted cell phones) to patients and their families watching the game from the hospital.

I second this statement.
The goalpost came down at Tennessee because that was the first time we beat Alabama in 16 years (they have had a college dynasty for a long time under their head coach Nick Saban). It was one of the craziest games of football I’ve ever watched pro or college. And yes they did throw the goalpost in the river. The university actually started a gofundme to pay for the fine for storming the field and repair the goalpost and it filled in an hour or 2. I’m pretty sure they actually just donated that money as the University isn’t really hurting for the money.

The team names of college teams are often about their states identity. For example Tennessee is the volunteer state because so many Tennesseans have served in the military during war. Ohio is the buckeye state named after the common buckeye tree which produces a nut that looks like a chestnut. Indiana is the Hoosier state based on a common greeting “whose here” from the 1800s. Oklahoma is the Sooner state. North Carolina is the Tarheel state. And so on. The names often have historical significance that is a matter of state pride.

@@DNReacts As a Tennessee fan - the team who beat Alabama in that game and tore the goal post down - it was more than just "they hadn't beaten us in 15 years." Alabama has been consistently ranked #1 in the nation for those 15 years, while Tennessee has been going through major ups and downs with different coaches every couple years. The game meant a lot more than just beating a team we haven't beaten in a while. It meant that we as a team are back on the right track to compete in our conference again. It was also the first time in a long time our fan base had ANYTHING to be super excited about. Also, you asked how close the river is - the stadium quite literally sits on the river. The "Vol Navy" actually tailgates the games from their boats. It's Neyland Stadium if you want to google maps. Idk if it's still there, but after the game someone added the goal post as a map pin lol.

Yes that’s the one where they threw the goalposts in the river! It was at the University of Tennessee. That was the first time we’d beaten Alabama (basically the Barcelona/PSG/Man U of college football) in like 16 years. It was the best experience I’ve ever had with sports in my life. Throwing the goalposts in the river is kind of a rare Tennessee tradition, that was the 3rd time we’ve done that😂 1st time was back in the 80s when we beat Alabama, 2nd time was in 1998 after we beat Florida, then this year after Alabama again. It’s usually after just a really big win at home. We had been so bad for so long and we finally had a really good season so as you can see, all hell broke loose!

The Va Tech Hokies (burgundy uniforms) you saw had soldiers in blue uniforms. These are students who decided to join in the military with a scholarship after going physical and mental testing. A part of the school is a military academy. The cadets go to normal classes and stay in separate dormitories so they can receive extra training. After they graduate, they become officers in different arm forces (Navy, Air Force, Army, Marines).

The insanity when they play Sandstorm at the start of every University of South Carolina home game is without parallel, and that doesn't even include when the team enters through a wall of smoke to Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (aka the theme to 2001" A Space Odyssey).

Contrary to what others have said, there are designated away sections in college football stadiums. It's just that nothing stops away supporters from purchasing tickets on the secondary market that home fans have put on sale. Another good example of designated sections are for neutral site games. Such as the Red River Rivalry where University of Oklahoma and University of Texas fans are divide the tickets equally in a 96,000 seat stadium.

The reason they are all home team crowds is the geographical size difference between here and UK. I'm amazed at the amount of teams in EPL because the entire league travels the same distance as just one of our states. It's common for teams here in the same division to be 1000-1500 miles apart. The equivalent of traveling from London to Warsaw or Moscow. The fanbase is usually the entire state.
That team's fans tearing down the goalposts was the University of Tennessee. That was a regular season game but it had two things going for it. It is a rivalry game and they had lost it the prior 15 years straight to my team, the University of Alabama. They finally broke the streak and went nuts.

They put him in a travel cage and transport him from his enclosure to the stadium across the street and park him by the gate the opposing team comes out of. One of the things I like about LSU is that they have their own music, aside from "Tiger Rag".

I know they never force Mike into the trailer now and they certainly don't ride him around the stadium with the cheerleaders on top. Mike does have a beautiful large enclosure with grass, shade and a pool. Pictures of Mike are posted on Instagram daily.

They retired the Mike ride before we got the new tiger, he stays in his habitat all the time now. I get why they didn't show neck though for the LSU traditions lol
The Sandstorm is for the University of South Carolina. A towel for the cheer is placed on EVERY seat in the stadium for EVERY home game! It’s wild!
The largest US stadiums are all for college football. Many hold more than 100,000 while NFL stadiums are in the 69-70,000 range.
I live in a tiny town in Tennessee near the high school. Every Friday night you can hear the fireworks from our house when the game starts and the train whistle when they score.

@@DNReacts all the alumni would go back to our high school games yes, but I live in a different town now. I haven’t been to this one but I know most of the alumni. You usually start going when your kid starts attending the younger school if you’re not from the town originally. The little kids love going and running around at the games. Nothing like college football though. But it still means a lot in our town. It would actually really benefit the schools here if they combined but they keep voting against It because of football rivalries. 😂 I had a good friend that was a die hard Aston Villa fan. Always trying to educate me on the greatness of soccer. Saw him again a while back and mentioned something about Aston villa he quickly corrected me…said he finally made It to a college game and there’s no comparison. He’s a college football fan now 😂
I believe the goal post game was when Univ of Tennessee beat Alabama after losing to them for 16 years in a row.
When you do college marching bands, I strongly recommend you look at Ohio State University and their ramp entrance to the field and spelling Ohio in the pregame show.

Tennessee/Alabama game. Tennessee beat Alabama for the first time in like 16 years, yes pieces of the goalpost went into the Tennessee river. Neyland is one of the few college towns with the stadium on the river.
You guys should look up the "Iowa wave" where they wave to the kids at the children's hostpital overlooking the field and Utahs "moment of Loudness: which they created after they had two players killed by guns in the same year. Moment of loudness always gives me chills
Re: Florida State... don't mind the band... it's Chief Osceola on Renegade with the flaming spear!
Our local bar has a goal post in it from when the students tore it down and carried it downtown from campus, been there 40-50 years now
You need to look at Colorado University's mascot "Ralphie" the buffalo that leads the team out onto the field.

That's the song Tennessee played after beating Alabama. Don't know if you muted or video you watched muted, they change the line to F Auburn, LSU and Tennessee to which is why it was so sweet to play it in Knoxville. About the 6th video
As a foreigner that came here on an athletic scholarship, I have to say, going to college in the USA is simply an awesome experience, and besides learning and earning a degree, it is just a ton of fun. I love this country and everything it has to offer and feel extremely lucky and grateful to be here .....
I stumbled upon your channel by accident and have now subscribed. I love it! We take for granted the things that happen in our college and NFL games. It's cool to see them through your eyes. Have you guys ever shared your names?
The party starts hours before with the tailgating in the parking lot! Food and fun for all 😂
NICE reaction videos also attending the BoomBox Classic with Southern playing Jackson State is awesome
You guys need to react to the Tennessee vs Alabama game from this past year or just the end of the game. That video u saw did not do it justice. Go Vols🍊

I'm in the same boat with european "football". I understand England's culture pretty well. Just learning about the other countries now and how it all ties together, past and present. It's awesome. Tha ks for showing an interest in our sports.
Kind of weird that they showed two Tennessee clips (the orange with the checkerboard endzones) where the whole stadium was orange; they're better known for doing a checkerboard pattern in the stands (depending on which section you're in, you're told to wear either orange or white). A few others do similar occasionally - I think you can kind of see the maroon-and-orange alternating pattern in the Virginia Tech clip, and Iowa does the same with black-and-yellow - but I believe Tennessee is the original, certainly the best known for it. Rushing the field and taking down the goalposts after a major win is discouraged for safety reasons and doesn't happen nearly as much anymore, but it does happen. My favorite instance of it has to be when the *away* fans did it at a Minnesota-Iowa game, back when Minnesota used to play at the Metrodome (an indoor stadium that had an inflatable roof; the entrances were mostly revolving doors to manage airflow). The Iowa fans never did figure out how to get the posts out of the stadium and ended up just doing laps around the field.

Despite the relatively small size of Autzen Stadium (Oregon) at 60,000, it is one of the loudest crowd wise and has recorded a SPL of over 127 db.
Go Blue! (Michigan) love meeee some Mr.Brightside. Every time they cut the music and we keep singing. It gives me goosebumps.
8:07. Home of the Alabama Crimson Tide, who won 6 championships between 2009 and 2020 (next door neighbor Georgia won the last 2) as well as another 6 between 1961 and 1979.

The ripping the poles down was Tennessee fans after beating Alabama. They had another home game the next weekend.
usually when its a rival school the school will go around and put those towels on every seat for them to wave around and stuff.
At the Virginia Tech college football games when everyone starts jumping to Enter Sandman, it has shown up on seismographs a small earthquakes. Go Hokies
Been to a USC game, done the darude chant, top 5 things I've ever done.
At FSU, they pick a different senior every game to be the chief at home games ( the Indian you see on the horse at the beginning of the game)
No, it wasn't the end of the season. It was because they beat Alabama. Alabama is usually the best team in College Football. Also if College goalposts weigh the same as NFL goalpoasts then you're looking at about 500 pounds.

It used to be a far more common thing for them to tear down goal posts at college games when they were made out of wood. Now they are metal and it takes quite an effort to do so. I doubt that it happens much at all. I mean they are set in concrete and all.
The crowd singing Shout at Oregon might have a connection to the movie Animal House. I think it was filmed there and there is a famous scene with this song.
You should react to the army vs navy intro videos. Some will make you cry. The only game where those on the field are willing to die for everyone in the stands.
I feel like nobody talks about hearing these stadiums as the opposing team.. how intimidating it is at time. Utterly insane.
Some of the loudest crowds like lsu register around 130 decibels which is the sound of fireworks
Speaking from experience: Jump Around is an amazing atmosphere, especially at night, but it kills your knees. The student section stands the whole game, so, you tend to be tired when the third quarter finally comes to an end. Totally worth it though!

And I think it’s great that if you happen to be sitting next to the box seats, you can see the really old folks up there doing their best to jump around too. Maybe they can only raise their hands a little bit in rhythm with everyone else but they’re doing their best! 😂 Love the Jump Around!
The crowd at the Oregon game was doing “Shout” which is in the film Animal House, which was shot on location at University of Oregon.

Bands are in the list. Ohio very popular, could be where we start with bands
If you ever do go to a college football game, go to an Ohio St vs Michigan game. It’s the single greatest rivalry in sports. The two states almost had a literal war over some land. It happens at the end of the season too which means it normally decides who goes to the Big 10 championship game. While the game alone is crazy, the band for Ohio St is probably the best in the country. Watching them perform Script Ohio is beautiful.
