British Farming | 12 Months On A UK Farm: September

It's September, and we're back on the farm.
The seasonal change from tee shirts to coats, felt almost as abrupt as the transition from city to country this month.
We caught up with Eric (from February) our teaser ram, and got on with some muck spreading to tickle our senses.
We also reflected on the last few months.
It's the longest episode we've made, so we’d love to hear from you in the comments section! For Email updates, subscribe: talktoflank.com/british-farming/
Produced By: Rufus Denne, Josh Aarons.
Filmed By: Josh Aarons, Rufus Denne, James Norden.

An old man from the USA here. Love your show, the farm, and your hard work. My wife was a farm girl and when we were young and courting we would bail hay all day then ride the horses down to the local for a cool beer. What a great time. Good on you.

She talks about her grandfather's hard work as if *_she_* doesn't work that hard. Let's face it, the vast majority of Western women wouldn't last a day working as hard as she does. Her fortitude is admirable.

Absolutely love this series! I’ve known the family over 25 years and never had a clue what was involved in the farming process. So much appreciative now of the hard work put in, along with Sarah’s great sense of humour. Selby will be missed too as he told great stories to tell. A great big lovely farming family! Keep it going guys!!

Family is so important. Ru has a great heritage of solid work ethic. So many young people have never seen that and they feel entitled to wealth without a lifetime of work first. Hard work is what I hope to leave as my heritage and my children’s and grandchildren’s inheritance. A lif spent working at what you love is a life well spent.

Amazing work and video as usual! Love the series, and can never wait for the next video!! One thing i would say, the main issue with leaving the much outside to rot is that the rain washes out a fair but if the nutrients so the ground where the heap was is amazing, everywhere else isn't as great. Again though, absolutely amazing video and series!!

It's very important for farmers to start mulching fields. Making sure you have the organic matter to both hold enough water and also loose enough to shed water you don't need. Climate change is coming. (Like winter coming) and it's time for farming to get VERY permaculture resiliency base. Finding a solid production permaculture consultant and doing your research could mean the world for medium and small farmers across the world. Tell your mom to be on the lookout for young farmers running chickens in a pasture. It's basically a harrow and nutrition treatment mid-season. Also, she should look into no dig cover cropping. Out in the pastures, she can plant seeds. They grow and she can rotationally harvest it. Lots and LOTS of options.
