Oh, that looked glorious!!! Never had the pleasure of First, one day maybe. You are very funny and make me chuckle now and then with your comments. Thanks for sharing your travels. I do think they should get a bus for business class passengers as well when the aircraft is on an outside stand…. My pet hate that. Happy travels! ✈️

Thank you for your comment, I'm going to have to stop including scones in my videos, more controversial than Josh Cahill! 😊 If I have scones at home I put a slice of very cold butter on the scone (literally cut with a sharp knife), then a twist of milled sea salt then a layer of conserve. I didn't ask if they had this on the flight, but in the absence of this I use cream as the butter. I hope you're having an amazing trip on Barbados, I can see why so many people return year after year, it is a unique destination. If you're looking for reward availability next year I would subscribe to seat spy and set an alert, it will be more difficult in peak. Thanks for your support, Phil

Great video but totally agree that having to get a bus out to the aircraft would temporarily lessen the first class experience, but the first class check in and Concorde lounge looked very good. The food looked excellent but i would of hoped for a few more veggies with the lamb . Some of the BA 777s on this route are over 22 years and really need to be replaced by more modern aircraft, the IFE was certainly below standard in comparison to say Emirates. But what a great deal you got with Avios what was the return flight like in comparison?

Thanks for the comment, although the bus to London from Stafford is cheap, I don't think it's quite that cheap. • @Katieforty4

Definitely had the same experience with the bus bundled together after coming from the Concorde Room on my flight to JFK as well - bit of a bump back down to earth before getting to my seat. I also didn't like the storage of the aircraft in first on the return leg from Newark - the aircraft was the one you flew in and very sub-par compared to the newer fleet 777 planes, which still sadly have that tiny bathroom. Still debating if I'll just look for another airline as sadly the dedicated customer service team, even on the top levels of the Exec Club, also really aren't up to par. I'm afraid to say it, but BA is just focusing on cost now it seems. Glad we can have these videos Phil - if BA are gaming us through cost cutting, we should be gaming them right back if we're looking for tier status at all. Excited to try a new airline next time and see if there are other ways of getting value and service in the air, even on domestic legs.

Thanks for sharing your views, I think the bus is a big let down, and why are BA using so many remote stands at Heathrow T5? If you have Avios (which is my reward point of choice) then Qatar is your best bet, and my advice would be to book early and be flexible. If you need them "right now" then you might strike lucky.

Brilliant Video. For me, the option of having an Amex that gives me a companion voucher is unreachable, Covid saw to that destroying our hotel company and credit ratings as a final punishment. BUT I avidly collect Avios and would happily pay the 85k avios and taxes, I wonder if starting in Inverness would make it a lot cheaper as it does get rid of a % of the air passenger duty. This is how I (Usually) manage to fly in Business instead of PE and the extra leg helps with TP too. Looking forward to when BA put a 787 or 777 back on the TLV route as often the 777 have a first cabin. Oh and the current double TP promo that runs until December on BA holidays is outstanding. Will be Gold for under 2K

Thanks for your comment, I'm sorry to hear of your covid troubles. You will get a cheaper cash part to the reward booking from Inverness of about £200 but when I've looked you can't get a redemption in first, but Dublin does allow a redemption in First for lower taxes, but you'll be charged some additional Avios. Congrats on getting Gold, under £2k is exceptional and I'd love to hear about it.

Thank you for your question, I don't think the term "loo review" could be attributed to any one person, I've heard lots of reviewers use that. If you're from the UK you'll know that "loo" is a common term. I don't always film the airplane toilet, but when I do and use them in a video I've started to call them "The Bog Standard" and I don't know anyone using that.

I hope you had a nice holiday? How many days in Barbados were you? I value your flight at £1560, as I value avios bought or earned at 1p. £1560 for a return flight to Barbados in First Class is pretty damm imporessive. THe joys of a companion voucher, Although, some would say add £250 for card cost so cost is £1,810, but I'm not sure I do. Maybe the £250 is for the ability to collect avios through card spend, and an advance on the ability to cancel avios flights for almost nothing. I really dont know!

  • @mygreygapyear

Thank you for your comments, they're much appreciated. I had 11 nights in Barbados, I stayed in the Gap. When it comes to valuing the flight I think it's fair to say that a First Class ticket costs £6,000 and I paid £1560. But the actual cost of the Avios from my credit card, either the companion voucher cost £250, or the Avios cost 1p each, but I don't personally think it's both, because the Avios and the voucher come from the same card. Having said that we're assigning arbitrary costs to a ticket and we should simply assign the costs that make sense to us, what works for me may be different to what works for you, you should assign the values that make sense for you. Thanks, Phil

And I don't think there are people that don't know that BA First Class is available using Avios if they really want to try the experience. Anyway, sorry to disappoint you, but Barbados is a route that regularly has First availability and is a wonderful place to visit.

Thanks for sharing your views, a lot of people feel that was, I'm not sure where I land. The big upside on this seat is that it's open, where as in business class your feet tend to have to fit in a cubby under the seat in front. Buddy dining wouldn't be possible in a business suite for example.

I have to say, it looks like you were looked after well. But this as a "first class" service is not really impressing, the cabin looks like it is from the early 2000's with a 10 inch TV screen. I would have a heart attack if I paid full price for this...

  • @mygreygapyear

Thanks for your comment and yikkers, a fellow passenger from this flight has commented on the video! My point of view is that I obviously want to pay as little as possible and I can't afford to pay thousands for the fare, I simply don't have the money for that, but if I see a fare that I am happy to pay then I take a bit of a zen approach in that I was happy to pay the fare I did and that's no longer my focus, I'm focused on other things. Now if that other passenger wants to tell me how they got a lower fare and I can apply that process for my next flight then that I am interested in. Thanks, Phil

Thanks for your comment, you're right, in a way. I paid for a round trip (I think that's in the video) which was 85,000 avios and (about) £724 (I think). I value avios at 1p each so I would cost the round trip at £1,575 (and I think that's in the video too). But for a one way flight you can pay £473 + some avios, so now we're into how you value an avios, which is subjective and different for everyone. I don't think will fit on a thumbnail, so I hope you can forgive me for that.

  • @turkeyphant

  • @mygreygapyear

I'm a little bit cross about you accusing me of misleading viewers, that is not me. It is clearly in the video that I value Avios at 1p each and there is a chapter link with a full explanation of costs if you want to get straight to it. And you value Avios at 0.5p, I value them at 1p, but others will value them at zero (which just proves my point) because you can get 85,000 Avios for zero cost. So misleading, no I don't think so.

  • @turkeyphant

    @turkeyphant

    2 ай бұрын

You deliberately omitted half of the cost in both the thumbnail and the title. Your viewers aren't stupid, they can see that for themselves. And it's frankly asinine to state that you got the avios for free (opportunity cost etc.) when you yourself value them at hundreds and they can be used as cash

LOL i do have to say that thier so called "original british menu" in 1st class aint exactly british ( i know yhey have to put stuff in there for other nationalaties of traveler! BUT on the mains where was a steak? NOT everybody likes lamb, fish, curry or pasta! i certainly dont like some of the options id have to plumb for the lamb! , live raviloi but hate aspargus pmsl ....yep you can tell i dont have a cultured palate ...im basic BUT for BA not to have a steak or beef option on the mains is unforgivable ..i suppose they could get away with saying the chicken ( as usualy when you fly it chicken ,beef or fish as a mains otion ) that the tika masala covered that lol ..also the cheese why no cheddar that is truly a british cheese and the most popular one? also the deserts leave much to be desired for 1st class .... a tart that if you have nut alergies you cant eat...crepe suzzete with icecraem ..wow basical a pancake or just vanilla icecream with various toppings ...a bit of a poor show if you ask me if you were paying the full price to fly 1st class on BA!

Thanks for your comments, I'm looking at the menu now and there is a lot of asparagus on it isn't there. If I was serving you I think I'd suggest either a smoked salmon starter (kept plain, not too "fishy") with a nice fresh roll and butter, or the soup if you'd like to try that. Then I suppose the Lamb for mains, but you might like to try the turbot, again, it's quite a meaty fish and I'd just put some butter on it, a little salt and squeeze some lemon over it. I'd offer you some lobster sauce on the side which you might like. For dessert, the Rutland red would not be miles away from a classic cheddar, or if you like coffee I'd serve you vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso (they have an espresso machine on board) and then invite you to pour the coffee over the ice cream and try that, Very simple, but with an air of decadence. I'd also make sure you had plenty to drink so you fell asleep 😂 But I do take your point on the menu, there was a beef option on the return journey, which I had (I think?). I wonder if they would have been able to offer you something from Business if they had a different menu. Thanks again for your comment, I do love to hear other points of view, Phil
