Funny, common sense don't take yourself too seriously, unlike a lot of some particular folks that often just repeat some really ancient tropes with their own hubris added while complaining about our hubris. It's a "pot calling the kettle black", experience. I've traveled a lot over 6 decades and certain Brits, (it's usually Brits, not Scot, Irish or Welsh), have walked up to me , usually because I'm the only American they hear in their vicinity at that moment in time, and spout a truly worn out trope. And then toddle off, quickly after a sniff and nose turned skyward. I never respond, I smile to myself and move on. As a whole, Americans don't take ourselves that seriously, yes, we have problems, strange people, boastful, corrupt government, but so many diverse backgrounds and cultures and outright rejects sent directly here from Britain, we're never going to be perfect or claim to have the only right answers the way some Brits do . Plus, we are so darn young in relation to much of the rest of the world. We have more self awareness than a lot of critics. And what people complain about is actually what they see via propaganda on TV shows and Hollywood movies. We wonder why/anyone, anywhere believes that crap.

@@anitapeludat256 The Brits as you call us have one of the best sense of humour around we take the Mick out of ourselves and others we can be serious when we have to but we would rather make jokes that is where the Americans get it from as well as other countries that were part of the British Empire or the Common Wealth as it is known as now. it is one of the Best things that came out the UK the Irish and Scottish are probably the the best at self mocking The English do not mind having the micky taken out of us and by the way I am half Scot and Half English so I get double and love it

I do have to say, some of the very best Beer in the world is what a large majority of Americans think of Germany and I would have to agree . Yes, Guinness is delicious. But I could go anywhere in Germany and have locally brewed beer anywhere in Germany and have an excellent beer. Just saying..... It's in a class all by itself .
