I obtained my level 3 many years ago out of pure interest to master a really beautiful language (I have learnt other languages). Due to recently meeting several unknown (to me) Deaf people asking me directions or passing the time of day as we walk our dogs in the park, I have decided to refresh my memory. I come from a Deaf family. Watching this tutor reminds me of my father who was profoundly deaf and profoundly complex; forbidding hearing people to sign to him including his children. The signing and facial expressions are relaxed, as well as, easy to follow. Thank-you, for your kind contribution and educational input to the Internet.

I don't think the thumb is a classifier. My understanding of classifiers is that they are moved about to show how objects/people move about, and the thumb is not used to show anything moving about in BSL. Two classifiers are: - the raised index finger (used to show a person moving about); - the flat hand (used to show a car moving about; or, on edge, a bicycle or motorbike moving about). Classifers are not the full sign: you have to sign the full sign first, then you can use the classifier to show where it moves. I'm not very clear in my mind about other classifiers so I'll stop there!

That may be why he put the word "classifier" in quotes. Syntax aside, so thankful for this video as it's easy to remember the new signs when grouped like this.
