Britain's Illegal Rave Renaissance: LOCKED OFF
Rave Culture is one of Britain’s great cultural exports, but after its first wave in the late eighties and early nineties, it was soon forced into the underground by stringent new laws and superclubs. But forward 25 years into in the midst of a nationwide purge on the nation’s nightlife, where nearly half of all British clubs have shut down in the last decade, and a new kind of scene has emerged.
Clive Martin investigates this 21st century version of Rave, where young people break into disused spaces with the help of bolt-cutters and complicated squatting laws, to suck on balloons and go hard into the early morning.
But with the police using increasingly extreme tactics to clamp down on these parties, and more than one fatality causing nationwide media panic, can the scene survive?

The girls from Liverpool said it best. The reason raves are coming back is because clubs now are all stuck up, people get too drunk and rowdy and no one lets them selves go, they stand awkwardly and take Snapchat's. Raves are actually fun, like clubs should be.
"you can't blame the culture itself, for the tragedies that happen within it"
the statement from scumtek was probably one of the most professional and reasonable things ive ever heard from a rave/drug group. They know what they are doing.
All these raves have one thing in common: a really nice woman attends all of them. She's beautiful, outgoing, she makes you feel like a real man. She's always so understanding. She doesn't nag you about anything. She tells you you're doing the right thing, no matter what. I met her a few times.. I think her name was.. Molly..
Presenter is terrific. young enough to understand youth culture yet wise enough to explain and examine the story. definitely an asset
The stricter law, the deeper underground they go.

I hope they gave that guy water he really did look like he was thirsty lmao
"Nothing illegal hear mate"
I'm 37 now and I haven't been to a proper underground rave since 2004, but those nights still remain my most wonderful and special memories. Two raves in particular really stand out "first two nights I tried MDMA and back when it was pure in 1999" The tracks that were played still stir up emotions I don't get from nothing else. It was all about love and feeling connected to everyone. The atmosphere was perfect, nobody took too much, everyone looked out for reach other, making sure you didn't get too hot or drink too much water, just perfect all around. I wouldn't trade those nights for anything!
I'm a 55 year old farmer from Australia and this resonates with me in such a positive way. Youth having fun. The war on drugs is barbaric and has caused much harm but it has led to cool cultures like underground raves. Go kids.
42yr old dj still got 90 percent of the tracks from 1990/96 era on records.
Stoping moped gangs, NAH!.
all of the people from wales and liverpool seem really nice lol. probably the mdma. definitely the mdma.
I played at hundreds of "illegal" raves around 2010-15 .... Best partys I ever played at and in some messed up places, including a graveyard and an abandoned military fort.
love seeing the reporter get into it, really great that vice sends out people who are open to this type of experience
Spending my whole time reading the subtitles only to realise i'm fluent in english......
Good documentary. I'm over 70, and I love raves. Legalize the party culture.
Man this brought back memories of my teen years and young adult life. I'm 35 and I still have a few of these raves left in me lol. Freedom to party is the freedom to live. Great documentary. Music dance liberation!
