When you come here to the US be sure to ask hotel desk staff or other locals for places that are locally owned and operated they usually have the best food and service. You'll want to visit a few chain restaurants just for the experience, but the local joints are where it is at. If there is one chain I can recommend it is Sonic's just for the drive-in experience.

I live in Texas and Brisket is a food option that I regularly choose. My mother is from Maine and told me that while she lived in Maine they would buy their lobsters right off the ship from the lobster fishermen (lobstermen). My grandfather (from Maine) was a master chief and it goes without saying that I've some of the best foods this land has to offer. Look me up if you get to Texas! They must not have gotten around much in Louisiana. SSOOO, so, so many better choices in New Orleans alone, much less the rest of the states. Cafe Du Monde is for tourists. It us an experience and the bengiets are solid, but the arent even the best begniets. And we have several indigenous dishes much, much better than bengiets. Theyre basically donuts. Lol Gumbo, Jambalaya, Ettouffe, Sauce Piquante, Boudin, Cracklins, Tasso, Smoked Sausage from the praries, Smoked Ponce, Hogs Head Cheese, Round steak and gravy, sticky chicken, turtle soup/stew/sauce piquante. Same for alligator. Boiled crawfisj, boiled shrimp, etc, etc, etc ... and they choose mediocre fried dough covered in powdered sugar at a tourist trap in the french quarter. 🤣

Cronuts are in essence a Croissant Donut hybrid. Croissant dough is basically a Philo type dough where you proof then wait, roll it out paper thin, repeat proof, repeat roll, and a few more times until you layer the dough then bake. Cronuts are similar except they get fried. The rise cycle takes a while. I know because Disney is doing their own version and it takes forever to make.

Nopales (pronounced no-pal-es), cactus paddles, are tasty. Think of fresh green beans in texture. A slight tang. We prefer our made with red chili and eaten with fresh tortillas. Another favorite food here in So. Arizona is the Sonoran Hot dog. A bacon wrapped hot dog is grilled. Than served in a soft roll. Topped with guacamole sauce, mayo sauce, diced tomates, cilantro, fresh pinto beans. It sounds messy and odd but oh so good!

Being from Alaska, the reindeer hotdogs (especially spicy ones) are a game changer vs regular beef hotdogs. I can't deny our wild caught salmon or Alaskan king crab are better food items any given day, but if you ever find yourself in downtown Anchorage during the summer, stop by any hotdog stand and they will have a reindeer selection waiting for you. It's a bit more difficult to get one during the winter for weather reasons, but I sometimes brave the cold just to get one myself! Edit: You can also get reindeer sausage on pizzas as well, mostly from local restaurants. Don't expect to see this topping at a chain like Pizza Hut or Dominos. I know you did a pizza video from all states, and Moose's Tooth will not fail to deliver on any topping choice you decide!

The Portillo’s cake shake is more chunky than bitty. One of the main ingredients in the cake is mayonnaise. I know it sounds gross. But it doesn’t even taste like it has mayonnaise in it and leave the cake very moist. It’s not impossible to suck through a straw, but it is difficult. The original Portillo’s started in the Chicago suburbs (Villa Park). They have expanded to other states. But you need to have it in Chicago. They best known for their Hot Dogs, but you need to try their Italian Beef.

St. Louisan here. GB cake was actually an accident. In the early 20th century, a baker on The Hill, an Italian immigrant neighborhood, was making an actual cake. He was reaching overhead for ingredients while mixing. Butter and sugar fell into the cake batter. He decided to bake anyway and see what happened. Generations of my fellow citizens have been gratefully enjoying his mistake😁. A friend moved to TX. She baked a friend GB cake. Now people bug her to bake it or share her recipe. It IS THAT GOOD.😁 Toasted Ravioli is also a STL thing. STL eats are so good even when our chefs screw up it WORKS.😎🤣

The kind of cactus in the Colorado segment is the pad (nopal) from the prickly pear cactus (opuntia ficus-indica), which is common in traditional Southwestern US, Tex-Mex, and Northern Mexican cuisines. It tastes like a milder, slimier green bell pepper. The fruit (tuna) tastes like a super sweet watermelon. If you'd like an idea of what prickly pear fruit tastes like, try to find Ficodindia E Arancia sparkling juice from San Pellegrino. It's prickly pear and orange, but the prickly pear really stands out IMO. Howdy from a new sub in the Centennial State!

Cactus or Nopales (the Prickly Pear is most popular for this.) is very hard to describe. It's like zucchini mixed with cucumber, mixed with bell pepper. it's a very mild taste and so doesn't overpower anything you put it in. But it does have a very interesting texture. like okra, it slimes up a little. the more you cook it, the less the slime, eat it raw and it's a weird crispy yet slippery texture. You can basically put them in anything that you would put vegetables in. I've had them in tacos, soups, breakfast burritos. The best is when you can get the whole cactus pad and throw it on the grill to give it some char for like fajitas. So good.

Growing up in West Virginia, we never realized that Pepperoni Rolls weren't well-known and available everywhere. It wasn't until later in life that I learned they were invented in WV. But this woman is right. In WV, you can get them, in some form, in pretty much any convenience store or in the deli section of any supermarket.

Florida has two ok three major dishes you need to try Conch ( pronounced KONK and don't forget that ever), Stone crab Claws, and Gespaci salad which is one of the oldest dishes still served (its a tossed salad with a certain ingredient which you can't find much of anymore and That is Hardtack which is hard to make and even harder to track down.

Cactus is delicious. The flavor is almost citrus-like, but it's really all about the texture. The texture of cooked cactus is very interesting because the outside is almost rubbery (I say that in a positive way), but then it's also crunchy. When biting into it, it's like biting into a plant that's still very much alive, even if it's cooked. It's almost like one can feel the nutrients bursting out of the plant. It's actually categorized as a "superfood". So, TL;DR... Cooked cactus (nopales) have a citrus-like flavor and a squidgy/rubbery/crunchy/bursty texture and they're CRAZY good for you. Abso-freaking-lutely amazing.

The cactus they showed for Colorado is called "nopales" in Mexico. It comes from the leaves (actually modified stems) of a type of beavertail cactus (usually Opuntia ficus-indica). The flavor is sort of tart, like a sour apple, although not as strong. The fruits from the same type of cactus are also edible, and are called "prickly pears" in English and "tunas" in Spanish. To me, they taste a little like watermelon. Some alternatives for a few states: California - Mission burritos (from San Francisco), Dungeness crab, cioppino (a tomato-based seafood stew popular in San Francisco), chicken and waffles from Roscoe's in Los Angeles Florida - stone crab Hawaii - poke, shave ice Illinois - Chicago hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, deep dish pizza Maryland - steamed crabs (they mentioned crabs, but not steamed crabs, which are about the most iconic Maryland dish) Missouri - toasted ravioli (popular in St. Louis), St. Louis style ribs, Gates BBQ in Kansas City, Arthur Bryant's BBQ (also in Kansas City) New York - cheesecake, Buffalo wings (named for Buffalo, NY, where they were invented), pastrami sandwiches Wisconsin - frozen custard

Once I drove from Florida to New York and stopped halfway for barbecue in North Carolina. The mustard based barbecue sauce there is something I had never heard of before. It's so good I recently had to order bottles of the stuff because many places may have "Carolina style" sauce but you've got to have the real thing. Apple cider donuts are really good, especially when fresh. They are cinnamon-y, apple-y and melt in your mouth.

Shari's Cafe & Pies, which is a family dining chain here in the American West, will take a whole slice of pie and blend it into a shake. Someone would have to either be deaf or really stupid to get hit in the face during the fish tossing. It's a really festive atmosphere when they throw the fish, and it is loud (like, not rock concert loud, but Unplugged loud). (I can't believe I'm a local and I haven't experienced the fish throwing.... I've even been to Pike Place Market.)

As usual, very entertaining. How hard is it in your area to get good bread, etc.? It's very easy here to pick up, for instance, some cheese focaccia bread at the grocery store. A friend of mine said I made the best sandwiches, but honestly, here, it's easy. Take that cheese focaccia, split it in half and grill the inside in butter. Then I spread some pesto on the inside and layer with havarti or provolone, crispy bacon, beef pastrami, lettuce, tomato, thin sliced red onion (or batter fried if you're feeling extra naughty) and real mayonnaise. If I want more tang, I might add sliced dill or Dijon, but I usually stick with the meaty, cheesy version above because the veggies and pesto fill in the gaps. Make it at home. It's so good!
