Nothing much has changed regarding bus delays. There are no factories left here in Bristol as talked about in the film. Now in 2018.

I think it's fairly safe to say that nothing much has changed. Bristol still has a rubbish bus service, mainly, I believe, because it's monopolised bt First Bus, with the help of Bristol City Council who give them the contract every time. Of course, this is not helped by the fact that First Group own the bus station, so they're holding all the aces. inevitably therefore we have buses that don't turn up, buses that are late, surly drivers and dirty buses.

They were a memorable sight at Brentwood in Essex in the 60’s and 70’s with Eastern National.

Hands up everyone who spotted that the bus which is full up at 0:30, which whizzes past the waiting queue at 0:50, which is being observed at 1:49 and which is the relief bus at 3:34 are all the same vehicle. The 'passengers' used in the film are, I understand, bus company office staff roped in as extras - I haven't checked but I think you would find in all the scenes they're the same people. Bristol buses had destination blinds which only covered one or two services. When the crew is told to take their spare bus on service 3, miraculously it already has a blind in for the right service despite the fact that they supposedly didn't know beforehand where they might be sent!

Back when buses were built right and bus companies were run right! Clearing all those workers out of Bristol Engines at (the) Patchway and Bristol Aircraft just up the road - quickly - would not be possible with today's pared-down profit driven bus companies. Bristol Corporation made sure it happened.

Bristol corporation didn't run any bus services. It was a bus partnership with Bristol Omnibuses, which was a private company. At the time, they called it a 'joint undertaking' between the company and the corporation.

@@sideshowbob5237 they had a say, but to my knowledge, they didn't provide funding or anything like that. Buses were entirely self-funded at that point from fares, no over 60s bus pass, no fuel duty rebate, no funding of socially necessary services from taxpayers' funds - those services were funded by passengers using busy/profitable routes.

When buses were buses , drivers were drivers and bus managers were real bus people from grass roots and not just somebody who had been to university ending up with a degree in zoology . Great piece of film.

It was my first thought too. It was definitely not a racist remark(racist never being clearly defined). It was merely an observation. However, I will be controversial in saying I wish we could go back to those days.
