Yeah the early bow/stern pickers were like a dungeon under the foredeck. These late models are much better though...still dark but a lot more room. Also working under the raised wheelhouse can be like working in a wind tunnel, no fun on those cold days!

I haven’t figured out the exact number yet. I’ve had 8k up but failed at 10-12k attempts. Many factors change the results however, like…am I full of fuel (500gal), am I trying to take off into the wind, sea state and finally water depth. And she’s a heavy boat…

I've done this no, that I can tell. How much is in the net? It depends on if you've got 3 shackles or 4 shackles. But, yeah, that was that was a big set

Only 150 fathoms of net in this video. Also, the fish are almost never consistently loaded throughout the gear...one end, or the middle...or somewhere nearly always has a blank spot.

I’m thinking “how many fish got “picked” (and dropped out) by your jet guard, being dragged over that bar. For every fish in your catch net I’d wager 1.5 got lost. Check your bar back there in the yard in 23, if you see grooves in the aluminum from your lead line, that should illuminate the picture for you. But, hey, I’m just some rando on the internet, don’t know shit!

  • @SaltWaterSalmon

Well, you seem to have a handle on what's going on at least...not totally "rando"! Lol. Yeah, we lose some, maybe even many. We are able to recover some of those with the web we've installed around the guard, but it certainly isn't ideal.

@@SaltWaterSalmon confession: I’m bbay guy as well, since 93. Had a picking “bar” back in the day as opposed to a bin, and observed how a fish’s nose would get caught under it and get “flipped” out of the net. Seeing all the “net catchers” over the years off the back of sternpickers has kept me shaking my head. Building a new boat now (thru picker) and going to emphasize back roller protruding out enough to minimize drag over jet guard (using 6” pipe) as you said, it is what it is. I see some new boats (like thunder) with so much protrusion of jet guard I think to myself ( well that’s 20,000 lbs sent back to Neptune) take er ez!

@@SaltWaterSalmon bought a pws bowpicker last year, bbay prices are ridiculous, has 2yr old eng +jets, fished it in 22, have it in Vancouver wa, area, have split it in half, chopped off the cabin, and widened it 4 ft., to 16 wide. (Bowser style) We’re a little over 1/3rd of the way there, heading back tomorrow, as I’m at home in Colorado. The short answer is “me” (really my buddy Todd)

I can drag the end around. Figure out how many fish I have. I can look down in the net and see how they're hitting on. How I try God in of you already got 5000 pounds on and you got 10000 sounds an in the net You better be on your toes or special and shallow water.beyond your tones.

Yep shallow water on the ebb is stressful. This boat is heavy as hell and hit stern first, which is not ideal but it works....
