Brioche Tab Cast On

Фильм және анимация

Use this video along with my pattern to help begin your brioche shawl. I used the stitch and row numbers from the Flying Foxtail Shawl for this video. My other brioche shawls like Suriously Holey and Askews Me Shawl begin with the same technique. The stitch and row counts may vary from pattern to pattern, but the fundamental cast on concept applies to all of these designs.
Continental Style
1:05 Using MC, cast on 9 sts.
1:55 Set Up Row 1 (RS) Using CC
2:30 Set Up Row 2 (WS) Using MC
3:20 Set Up Row 2 (WS) Using CC
3:57 Set Up Row 3 (RS) Using MC
4:48 Set Up Row 3 (RS) Using CC
5:30 Set Up Row 4 (WS) Using MC
6:13 Set Up Row 4 (WS) Using CC
9:30 Row 1 (RS) Using MC This is the row where you pick up sts. Yay!
10:00 Picking up sts along brioche selvedge
11:10 Picking up sts along the cast on edge
12:35 Row 1 (RS) Using CC This is the first CC row you work after you finish picking up all the sts.
English Style
15:14 Using MC, cast on 9 sts.
16:05 Set Up Row 1 (RS) Using CC
17:00 Set Up Row 2 (WS) Using MC
17:50 Set Up Row 2 (WS) Using CC
19:00 Set Up Row 3 (RS) Using MC
20:06 Set Up Row 3 (RS) Using CC
20:51 Set Up Row 4 (WS) Using MC
21:34 Set Up Row 4 (WS) Using CC
23:05 Row 1 (RS) Using MC This is the row where you pick up sts. Yay!
23:55 Picking up sts along brioche selvedge
24:55 Picking up sts along the cast on edge
26:25 Row 1 (RS) Using CC This is the first CC row you work after you finish picking up all the sts.

Thank you Stephen, for always showing your techniques using both Continental and English methods. When I knit Brioche, I execute the slip 1 yo brk with yarn in left hand. But I execute the slip 1 yo brp with my right hand. This may seem unorthodox, but I developed horrible tendinitis from working two color Brioche purling using my left hand. We adapt where necessity demands, rather than sacrifice our art ❤️‍🩹

Do a hat in the round in brioche! Brioche in the round is easier. I have a pattern called Syncopation Adoration Hat that's good for a first brioche hat project and check out all the brioche cowl and hat patterns by Lavanya Patricella. I love her designs and they are phenomenal for easy brioche practice.
