I'm a Cadillac guy I still have my family owned 1986 Cadillac Coupe Deville. I have had a few in my life. Ben its a 429, 340 HP & 480 ft/lbs of torque.

My boss had a black 62 Coupe in 1963 when I was a senior in High School in Grand Rapids, MI. He gave me some cash to wash it one Saturday. My friends and I bought some gas for it instead, washed it at home and cruised the circuit instead for about an hour. Had a blast!

Dip the battery terminals in a mix of baking soda and water. Cleans them right up.

Fender Skirts and Fins doesn’t get any better. Love old Caddy’s

Twilight Sentinel = headlamp auto on/delay off

Mmm that beautiful red perforated leather. These interiors are fabulous. Edit: at a closer look I now realize this interior was redone at some point. Originally all those stitched inserts would have been perforated leather and it looks fabulous but was known to tear if not taken care of/from age.

That's a great car!!! Gotta love those big old Cadillacs. Except for rusty 72 convertibles.

Thanks Ben, another good video. The 1964 models were the last Cadillac's to have tail fins. 10:55 The arm rest switch for the windows, usually labeled "EMER. WIN." is something Cadillac had for years. If you needed to put the windows up or down and didn't have the keys with you, the switch could be held and it would supply power to the window switches. It's sort of the precursor to the automatic retained power feature in modern cars.

Gorgeous car, and close to my favorite year of 1962. My first girlfriend's (1978) parents had 1964 Sedan DeVille. White also with black interior. Owned since new, completely original and only driven on weekends. Seemed so old at the time, even though it was the same age as me. My current daily driver is sixteen years old. I believe that's an electric winder on a clock spring in the clock making that noise.

I saw you doing a brake job on your Cad Conv yesterday and you put a touch of grease on the backing plate that the shoe rides on. This is something I was taught along time ago. You are the only mechanic I have seen do this good job. I always drove Cads but now you've got me wanting a Very and the only one I can afford is a C4 1985 lol thanks for all your Videos.

Back in 1972 during the first oil embargo one of our high schools teachers brought her 64 Caddy into the schools auto shop class wanting to know if there was something we could do about the 7 mpg it was getting. Our shop teacher just laughed and told her no so she donated it to the class and went shopping for a new Pinto. That big 429 wasn't the biggest engine Cadillac made but it sure was thirsty.

Cadillac also marketed Twilight Sentinel which turned on the lights at dusk. Don't remember if there were two devices, one for dimming and one for automatic turn on. Mechanisms are different, so they may have had two products/options.

Autronic Eye was the auto high beam control. Twilight Sentinel was the auto lights on/off due to ambient lighting conditions.

Our 60 Cadillac has the autronic eye and it is so sensitive that it dims the lights when passing road signs. Anyone know how to fix it? I have turned the knob both ways and have put tape over the lens but it still dims the lights constantly! Thanks in advance for any help!

@@charlesatwell6658 I had a 66 for a while that had the same problem. I tried putting multiple covers over the eye with gradually smaller holes to see if that would fix it. After the third time it worked better. But not great. Never figured out if there was a way to adjust it. Most circuits like that have a gain control. When I was researching (before the internet was good), I found that Ford/Lincoln was buying Delco units too and having tons of problems. Designed their own. I decided it sounded hopeless.

Wow, she's a beauty! When you get her fixed up so you can take her out for a cruise make sure she is hooked up to a tanker, she'll be getting less than 6 miles to the gallon.

This one reminds my of my Cadillac. After some guy hit my 65 Mustang, i bought a 64 Coupe De Ville. A big boat is a car, but it was cool.

From an era where full sized meant FULL SIZED! Looks like "ran when parked" actually applies to this one!

Also came as a rarer Fleetwood Eldorado Biarritz Convertible without fender skirts. Quality of chrome plating in those days on Cadillacs was superb.

One of Cadillac's best looking years, the 63 and 64. Had access to a 63 4 dr Brougham about 68 when I was in college working for a used car lot prior to graduation the next Summer. Dark green metallic, lighter green brocade pattern interior. Extremely posh for sure. Very nice ride. Just think it a bit strange that they left this car in a garage with the top down since 2004? The interior looks clean for that long with the top down or did someone clean it up before you began the project?

The 64s had the new 429 in them. That AFB is a direct replacement for the original carb. Those were REAL RUNNERS for their size... Well tuned, it should get about 20mpg on the highway and about 12 in town.

Nice car. Interior has definitely been replaced. No cruise, however auto dimming, sentinel and tilt. First year for ATC.

I can't remember whether this is a 390 (it was bored out to 400+, but again my memory is not that precise) or if the 472's came this early. And those got bored out to 500 ci. Last of the real fins, though; the '65's went to the "blade" style which crushed me back in the day. Now they look like a handsome evolution of this overblown style -- which I'm sure is what Billy Mitchell & co. were aiming for. Thanks for posting.

I have watched other videos and when some of them choose a vintage Cadillac to restore or get running, they get a lot of watchers. Some love a 1963 or 1964 Caddy or 1969 Caddy or even 1970. In any event, whatever the model, you are a winner. In any event, the mechanics can't seem to pull themselves away and sell them. Think about it. Love your videos! A+++

What a boat!!! It looks really good and a "survivor" to boot. Every time I see these videos the person doing it should drop the fuel tank and disconnect the gas line before doing anything else outside of cleaning the rodent crap out of everything.

So excited to see you work on a '64. I've been restoring my grandfather's. Lots of cool options on that car. Try working the windows with the emergency switch set to on. You might have some luck. The wires in the door jamb always break.

429. Torque monster. High compression. It’s no 472/500 but still a great engine. I have a 68 so I’m biased

1964 Cadillac was the first mass production car to have automatic air conditioning. I’m not partial to convertibles, but it’s darn nice.

429, last year for fins, first year for auto climate control. My fathers boss had one, I dreamed from our 62 Bel Air wagon. Kudos as always!

Oh man, really? Very nice thet you get to work on it! I’ve got a 64 Caddy aswell in white but as a coupe. It’s been off the road for 2 months now as I have a severe knock in the engine. First changed the lifters, then all the bearing and whilst doing the bearings I found out that my timing chain is as loose as a bike chain

My Dad had the same year and color except his was a coupe, I think the motor was a 429 C.I.

That engine is a 429 which replaced the previous 390 generation Caddy powerplant. Those "turn signal bullitts" are actually fiber optic which Cadillac was the first to introduce. This car has "Autronic Eye" which is the far left dial on the dash that automatically dimmed the high beams when two lane highways were the norm. I don't think this is a factory cruise control car. The system would have been mounted somewhere on the driver side inner fender and would have been manufactured by Perfect Circle for GM.

Those turn signal bullets actually have small bulbs in them. Fiber-optics did not come until the 1970s. That does appear to be a factory cruise control.

@@danielulz1640 Factory cruise on 63/64 Cadillac had a round "selector dial" mounted flush up next to the driver wing window on top of the dash. This car does not appear to be so equipped.

My guess are bad gas and a bad fuel pump.

That one was pretty simple compared to what we're used to seeing you work on. It definitely pays to keep something in a garage if you can. Wonder what kind of problems you're going to find in the fuel system because if they stopped driving it because it quit running it doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the ignition so far. Still could be something wrong with the transmission as well. But man that thing started up nice.

its a cadiliac, they got around and lasted back then, hell they had mutliple ones on the old Miami Vice TV show back in the 80's that are still around to this day, in of all places the dominican republic.

I wonder if the thing was originally red on red judging by the painted bits of the dash, also at that age, and how old it is, changing the fuel lines cant be a bad idea if your gonna go through it top to bottom to get it back up to tip top spec, and if not at the very least have a marked and easy to find fire extinguisher put in for the guy given how bad the obama gas is, although Mercifully it missed that era which is probably why it runs so well.

engine should be a 429, 340 hp, on 100 octane probably. 2 versions of this engine depending on the transmission,, both automatics.

The better method of getting corroded terminal out is spray WD40 and leave it for a minute or two..
