Brindavani Thillana: Bharatanatyam vs. Kuchipudi, performed to Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna’s composition that is popular among musicians as well as classical dancers. Here the dancers perform Brindavani Thillana highlighting the similarities and differences between two prominent Indian classical dance genres, Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Nuances of the Nritta and Abinaya in the two dance forms are brought out by the dancers Shyama Iyer (Bharatanatyam) and Sahiti Rachakonda (Kuchipudi) through the depiction of the playful encounters of Krishna and Radha.

Technical Differences i could spot..: Kuchipudi dancer(red & White) singing the lyrics.... while Bharatanatyam dancer does not sing along. Kuchipudi seemed more gentle than Bhartanatyam. One Bharat, countless forms. Beautiful!!

They look like two goddesses dancing in driven cosmos. Just the ecstacy. The vocals of thillana on the reared side , could be felt in my pulse. All I have to say is this is *divine*

@@historyandculture562 I acknowledge the fact that there are many dance forms throughout the world. Maybe enough to be said that I haven't seen them. And when I watch this dance I feel that divinity in it. guess it's called EXPERIENCE AND ECSATCY rather than OVERTHINKING! :)
It's just an amazing artwork of them both. They both did it very well and I always wanted to learn Kuchipudi too.

The both dances look similar at some points, but each of them is also distinctive at the same time, which astonishes me. That's why I appreciate the explanation after the performance and I love this video.

Dance forms are different but dance is divine. I think the main difference between Kuchipudi & Bharatha natyam is postures and expressions. In kuchipudi postures are solid and expressions are natural. In bharatha natyam postures are sculpture style and expressions are dramatic.. both performers are excellent.

Also costumes and hairstyle and the fact that Kuchipudi dancers lip sync to the lyrics also known as Vaachika abhinayan. Which is not a feature of bharatnatyam

It was just awesome!! My favourite song added with your graceful movements. Thank you, this helped a lot for differentiating the dance forms. A small suggestion would be that the costumes were not worn according to the particular dance form, otherwise rest was superb !!
All men here attracted to kuchupudi dancer...like seriously 😒. I dance both the dance. Bharatham is kinda a lot difficult for me since there is a of movement and steps involved. ✌️to both the dances

It is not Kuchipudi attire... Kuchipudi has its unique style And Jada( hair) should be in front...But dance is perfect

The Kuchipudi aesthetic can be portrayed in various ways. The artform is not limited to one style of garment or hair. The jada in front can be done for stylistic or character portrayal purposes, however it is not required of all dancers to wear jada in front. 🙏🏼
Can i ask what is the official name to these dances and music. As a child, on sat nights very late bollywood dancing and then this music came on. I was 8, i would have this playing on sunday morning on the am radio, trying to copy the dancing to this. I felt so free dancing to this. I still very much feel a connection to this that i cannot explain. Thanks for sharing this beauty. Thanks to the dancers. The percussion players ect. Very beautiful

I don't know which dancer is doing which. Sorry am new to this. I used to look for the orange flowers in the hair for kuchipudi now both are wearing orange flowers. So good luck to me.

I loved kuchipudi..its more elegant, feminine ,graceful ..BN is sharp and crisp, rigid steps ,it's more masculine than feminine.. Also BN expressions look dangerous scary, while Kuchipudi expressions are eye candy pleasing to watch..

Ironically, Bharatanatyam was originally performed exclusively by women and Kuchipudi by men.

There is hardly any difference in the styles. They should not try to differentiate. Kuchipidi is Basically male dance form even female dancing done by males. and more inclined towards drama-dance style.. The differences exhibited are minor adapted to lower balance point of female body. It would benefit more to both styles. As Bharthanatyam is an older form with continuity to Chola and Pallava period and the Bhagavatha Mela tradition led by kuchipidi shared by by both. it should be promoted as one incorporating both systems without trying minor differences and deemphasizing the plate dance and pot dance. Would aid both forms as a classical dance of vast repertoire and varied approach.

I liked the brown girl's dance better
Bharatanatyam's beauty lies in its sharp lines. The stability in the end pose of BN dancer was bit shaky. The overall performance lacked that spark which Indian Raga is known for. Very sorry to say but IndianRaga's standard has gone down in past 2 years which was at peak during Sophia-Isha era.
