Brilliant corgi taught herself sign language when her dad married someone deaf

Ойын-сауық

Eoywn the corgi quickly picked up important words like “dinner” and “ball” and has the most dramatic reactions when they’re signed in front of her.

Just wondering, do you think dogs are smarter than _you_ give them credit for? Cos if you don’t (ie. you know dogs are smart), and I don’t, and a lot of upvoters agree, it makes me wonder just why people get these impressions that most of society except for themselves have x misconception. I see this in so many highly-upvoted comments, where a judgment is made on “people” as though the commenter has a birds eye view of humanity and a better understanding of everything than everyone else. But if the commenter has a good enough grasp of the topic to be able to say that, then why doesn’t everyone (or at least, why isn’t that the assumption or precedent)? Anyway, just a random thought I’ve had from reading comments like this, I could have responded to any of them, i just happened to let it out on your one. Sorry for getting philosophical on your offhand comment appreciating dogs. They are smart.

Unintentionally I imvented a sign for my dog that meant that there was no more food. He used to bark demanding food and I had to show him that the plate was empty and that I had nothing in my hands either. That last part became the sign. I put my hands in front of me and turned my palms showing they were empty. After a while that was all I needed to do for him to stop demanding treats when there really wasn't any.

My dog listened to every conversation. We had to spell words. Then my dog caught on. We changed to another language. Ditto. We did signs. Ditto. In the end we wrote stuff down, but she picked up on body language. She was so clever. She outsmarted us all the time.

My sister and BIL have two Corgis, one female, one male. Gracie and Georgie understand a great deal of what Sis and BIL are saying, so they've had to either write things out and show each other, or use their own form of "silent' language--they don't know ASL--in order not to excite the doggos.

Corgis operate mostly by sight, so once they associate particular gestures with actions, they'll be right on top of it! But NEVER forget those ears . . . those BIG, BAT-LIKE ears! They HEAR EVERYTHING!

I once knew a guy who had a deaf brother. The guy I knew never learned sign language because he considered it too big of a hassle and too much of an investment of time. And yet here we have a dog who learned it without even being taught. Says a lot about that guy.

This is fantastic and what a smart dog. I am learning ASL for my job but I have always wanted to learn the language. I have also taught my one year old puppy the numbers from 1-10 as he eats so fast, I don’t let him eat until we get to number 10. Cooper knows exactly what that means.

@@AdeleiTeillana I wonder when I see snarky comments with no obvious humor (referring to jb6712) what is that person's goal or motivation? Do people take pleasure in being a party pooper or being unpleasant for no reason? I tend to be very sarcastic and snarky, but I attempt to lace it with humor. I don't always succeed, but I try to avoid being pedantic. I too refer to my full grown dog as puppy or pupperdoo. Dogs always thankfully manage to retain that endearing quality no matter how old they get. Anyway this was a wonderful video.

Sign is easier for a lot of animals to learn since they use mostly body language as a means of communication with each other and sometimes include vocalisation but not always. If you watch animals interact you can see them having "conversations" without making a sound so this makes a lot of sense

This is not surprising. When training your dog, it is not uncommon to use hand signals along with word commands. Dogs understand body language over verbal cues.

Repent, which means turn away from sin! Our sin leads us to hell as it’s disobedience from God - if your friend disobeys your laws that u place while they’re staying at your house, you would be pretty upset right? So God is just, and good, so He must do the right thing! (Sending us to hell) You may think this is harsh but, think about this: if we send a criminal to jail is it really a bad thing? Or is the judge delivering justice for the wrong doing? SO, THE THING IS TO GET OUT OF OUR PUNISHMENT JESUS CAME AND DIED ON THE CROSS FOR US, SO WE WOULDN’T HAVE TO GO TO HELL IF WE JUST BELIEVE THAT HE DIED ON THE CROSS! HE ESSENTIALLY TAKES OUR PUNISHMENT UPON HIMSELF. NOW WE CAN BE SEEN AS INNOCENT (in the OLD TESTAMENT, Animal sacrifices were done to atone/take away the sin of the peoples, JESUS DID FOR US!) IN GOD’S EYES ON JUDGEMENT DAY IF WE BELIEVE AND REPENT.
