We're a billion miles away from our best team now, the injury list is epic. When Rogers went off we lost a lot because he was finding pockets. We're running on empty, I was hoping for a point but Liverpool can as good as seal it for us tonight cross fingers. Hats off to Olsen, he made some Martinez like saves.

Imo Rogers or not, it wouldn't have been much different. Never got the ball up there enough. Seemed like we thought we could pull of what we did at Arsenal, except instead of going for it after half time, we thought we could do it after 55 - 60 mins. No chance. Brighton must have fealt they would win that game the while way through. All we can do now is support Livwrpool. 😂 (1 nil up with Salah looking at it so that's good)

Olsen was today's MVP

I cant believe how anticlimatic the last last couple of performances have been, in the biggest week of our season so far. I know the injuries are piling up and the players are knackered, but this time last year we so fired up and motivated in every game to try and get into Europe. This year is the complete opposite. Yes we may still finish 4th but today's performance just sums up how we're limping over the line.

Tired my friend they don’t know tired I work 70 hours a week for not even a sniff of what they earn , they just ain’t good enough especially the last three performances are disgraceful to be honest, I am so proud of them this season but to do this right at the end when it matters most worries me because what is there excuses next season if we are in the champions league. Surely as professional football players that’s what you want

@OxfordsFinestExplorer I agree mate, just seems like they're already on the beach and think top 4 is all but nailed on when it isn't. I love McGinn as a player but he really doesn't inspire me as a captain, shows next to no leadership on the pitch when we're playing poorly. As good as we've played this year, and we've been brilliant, we've definitely missed the leadership and communications Mings gives. He was instrumental in pushing us over the line in the last few games last season.

It’s fine. Relying on other results this late in the season is to be expected. How the hell are we fourth like. Amazing achievement. We are odds on to finish there and qualify for champions league. It’s spectacular.

You feel how the team looked

I hear ya Luke, I think you are speaking for how many of us feel right at this moment, what a difference a week makes, on top of the world to feeling like the rug was pulled from us. But when we all look back at our magnificent season, and no matter were things end up by the final whistle, it has been a magnificent season with great memories AND as importantly a clear path ahead on what needs to be changed, we are in good hands with Unai, and he has been the difference as he coached the living daylights out of the players and keeping us at 4th. I believe much like when we were promoted ahead of schedule we're a season or two ahead of our rebuild. I think our smaller squad, the injuries from day one, the newness of being in Europe AND maintaining 4th spot while also continuing to learn how Emery wants individuals and the team to play all has taken a toll in a long and exciting I-wouldn't-change-a-thing season. The # 1 criteria for success is consistency of play, results and its the hardest thing to achieve. Add in experiences of having being in different situations of winning and losing (learn more) - we are on our way, in the middle of things. I have every confidence in where we are going under Emery so no matter how flat it feels right now, whether we are in CL or in Europa, it's about progressing and we will. The future looks bright UTV 🤜

I'm not sure I've seen a premier league team look that tired in a game before. Love that unai won't let it be an excuse, but injuries are killing us. Our first 4 options to play off the left are all injured now

Olympiacos' next game is Thursday. German, Spain and France and the rest of the world did all did the same thing in Europe let teams have a week in-between games I really think the prem need to lobby for the same. I know its the end of the season but they really should have moved this game and the Chelsea game much like the other leagues did for their teams in Europe its killing us.

Borussia Dortmund had to play yesterday against Augsburg between the two PSG matches same as Bayern.

Unbelievably poor today. Not many players showed any kind of determination to win the ball. Thought Pau wasn’t very good at all today and Adingra had konsa on strings. Got to keep pushing UTV.

We ran out of steam in the Chelsea game, it’s gonna go to the wire, Olsen was magnificent hats off to him, #UTV always what a season we’ve had keep pushing

Every time we have the chance to open the door completely. then we slam it in hard 🤷‍♂

100% understand how you are feeling Luke. We were at the game and it was hard to watch with both teams struggling to get going especially first half. Second half was a little bit better but clearly every Villa player is running on fumes with no options for rotation. Olsen has a great game which says it all. Hoping the players can recover for Thursday. UTV

we have not been at the races for sometime now. lack of quality in the midfield is killing us. we managed to get results despite of our injuries but we finally have been caught out. Simon Adingra gave Konsa a torried time ive never seen him struggle so much. Olsen was the only one to really perform he kept it down to 1. Given the players that are left available i dont see where the next win is coming from. I hope the villa park crowd will get behind them against Liverpool and appreciate what they have given us this season

Guys, I know we've lost this one, and people are down. But this is the best season the villa has had in a very long time, and we've achieved so much this season . Who'd have thought we'd be in Europe, and we'd be challenging for champions league. Nobody would have ever thought that in Gerrards era . We would be lucky to be striving to save our premier league place

If anyone couldn't see that performance coming they are mad , the second half last week against Chelsea, chasing shadows , the semi final look what happened, flat as f--k absolutely knackered. The injuries have caught up big time but what a season and they've given everything. Let's hope for a performance on Thursday. UTV

Surely the management know the energy levels of the players before a game. Might as well have thrown a few kids in today given the state of our first team at the moment & rested them up for Thursday. We’re relying on spurs losing anyway

I have to say that a person working a 40 hr week from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday has every right to say they are knackered come a Sunday! Yes these players are athletes and get paid very very well so exhaustion after “working” for 90 mins twice a week should be a doddle for them, especially as they are fed and looked after better than your average working person!! I’d gladly swap roles if they can’t find the energy!!!

@@zantelion1052 This comment doesn't make sense - yes they are highly paid athletes but they are competing against highly paid athletes who in a lot of cases have played 20 games less this season and this is also exacerbated by the unprecedented amount of injuries we have had this season which leaves our squad very thin and therefore less able to give players a break

I think you made a good point that the players have nothing left and are running on empty. Personally I'm fuming and so tired of just always playing teams in poor form and in a goal drought and just handing them wins. Luke its not just the lads getting injuries, most of the squad we are putting out are strapped up , playing with niggles or injuries. 40 years I have been a fan and i will die one. it would be great for us to get a trophy this season because I dont know how many more seasons like this i will be lucky enough to see. it will be great to get in the Champions League, but if it doesn't happen Im not going to turn on the lads. Personally, they have given me one of the best seasons I can remember. Whatever happens, we can't take that away. We are in Europa at the very least, and just knowing the owners, Unai staff, and players have a vision to proceed makes me unable to put hate onto anyone UTV

Should have replaced the injured Morgan with Alex Moreno playing in left midfield, which he has once already done this season.. Emery put Cash on which unbalanced the whole team with Diaby and Bailey both having spells on the left, neither looked comfortable on the left. Needed Moreno on not Cash.. who was pretty much playing up front at one point..

I know I've hated on Olsen (not unwarranted tbh) but it is scary to think he was the best player on the pitch today. Playing on Thursday had definitely had an effect but there was no plan in the gameplay. I think the team has achieved incredible heights this season, but we need about 7 quality players in the summer in all positions of the squad to have a chance of competing in the CL. Injuries have been horrendous of course. No Tielemans, Kamara, Ramsey, Mings & Buendia. Add to that the lack of quality from Zaniolo and Diaby inconsistent hasn't helped. Overall great, but we need a magnificent comeback on Thursday. UTV

If we play Chambers and Irigbuneam in defence midfield and move Dougie and Mcginn further forward to change things up

Europa League qualification and 5th will still be progress, but will feel so disappointed if we don't get 4th or Conference League trophy. A few weeks ago I wanted us to go all out to get both, but I'd take either or at this point, I just don't think we have enough about us at the minute to turn it round on Thursday.

Agree mate we're limping to the line partly because of injuries catching up. Just lack of intensity and want. Again, mate lacks leadership, too.

My issue is this, the top 3 follow the script “to a certain degree” we however are COMPLETELY RANDOM… we can best the best and lose to the worst (as we have), and with the knackered legs and lack of depth we are going to do well to kick on now, the aforementioned isn’t my issue though, we knew it would be tough, my issue is if we do make UCL then how the hell do we compete in that competition given the fact we are restricted in our spending?, I actually fear the UCL “if” Monchi doesn’t pull a magic wand out his ass. The end of this season is like watching a wounded soldier UTV

We are punching above our weight a bit. We're not good enough to show up at 90% and beat most teams. The good news is, We are good enough that the top 3 can't turn up at 90% and beat us. We really need CL. I don't think we need to add loads more quality outside of 1 or 2 positions but if we can just add some numbers as good as what we have, we should be able to negate a season better. Signing such players will require CL money.

You've been saying this for months and I tend to agree. We'd likely be in a group with Inter, Leverkusen, and Girona or some combination thereof. Could be brutal. Look what happened to Union Berlin this season after CL qualification. Poison chalice for me. edit: don't get me wrong that would make for sure amazing nights at Villa Park but we all know the same people complaining right now will be complaining when CL demands have us mid-table, unable to cope.

That was a really hard watch, the only positive I took from this match was that Olsen made some great saves

Luke, we are lucky that Tottenham don’t want to finish fourth either. Emerys only fault for me is his use of subs, if it was squads of 15/16 players then most clubs would find it difficult. We need more quality on th e bench maybe a couple of older heads. We really only have one issue over the season is we can’t see games over the line. However go back to unai Emery’s first day we are so far ahead of schedule by probably 2 seasons at least. We’ve had an awesome season, challenging for 4th an a European semi final we’d have seen that as a hell of a stretch. But we are where we are by merit. Do we need an upgrade for next season? Oh yes, Bring it on, we are in for one hell of a ride mate.

It fealt like we thought we could hold off untill 55 - 60 mins and then go at them. Didn't work out. When Rogers had to go off, it fealt to me, primed for KKH on the wing or TI in the middle and McGinn further up. KKH obviously not fancied if Cash is prefered as a winger let alone RB over him. For all the talk about if we beat Brighton and Spurs loose we guarantee top 4, We haven't considered loosing and Spurs winning, which would basically be Spurs top 4 for sure. You've menetuoned Luke that we haven't been bad after a ECL game but We have been crap the game before a few times now. Today was more important imo and we needed more. NEEDED MORE.

We've run out of gas, Luke. We'll lose Thursday and Euro Conf will be gone. Liverpool at home? A point at most right now. Palace away? They are playing really well now and we are knacked so a point at most for me. A point or two might be enough for 4th place but the team/squad is depleted and shagged out. We are limping to the line. However, I am still very proud of what Villa have achieved this season because we have Europa League 5th place minimum, which is more than we hoped for pre season & the blouse were relegated to League 1. He needs to choose a game to put the kids in & rest some first teamers. Today would’ve been the day for me, then go all out on Thursday & the palace game. Rely on spurs losing to city & we’ve got a chance of top 4 & silverware. As it is now, you can’t see us winning another game so the best we can hope for is spurs handing us 4th place

Hats off to Olsen, he was our best player today and he deserves our plaudits. We looked very tired which hardly surprising considering the effort the team has put in this season. Unai says they must rest but how can they with Athens on Thursday and Liverpool on Sunday ? The level of athleticism needed to sustain a successful premier league and European campaigns is there for all to see. That is why the big clubs have larger squads, so rotation is possible because of injury or fatigue. We’re not quite there yet but with all our boys fit we should have a very good season next year 👍

Olsen although we lost has probably saved our Champions League season because of the possible goal difference. Our fanbase has actually given him a hard time over the past few weeks, when actually infact, the outfield team are whats letting us down as a whole. We have a fanbase who quicly likes to scapegoat players, but today Olsen was our only good performace. Dougie although I think looked a little sharper, Watkins, McGinn, Bailey n co all just looked nakered. Infact, Cash coming on for Rogers actually gave us a target man up top & I think didnt have his worst game today. Villas issue seems to be now is our Midfield is getting out muscled, and we are seriously lacking confidence to create. We are seriously lucky in the fact Tot atm are somehow worse than us, and although I hate the idea of us depoending on other teams performances, at the end of the day, we have all had the play the same teams. If we finish higher than them its on our own merit & this season I'm happy to claim that on the back of some of the amazing performances we have seen this season. I truly believe we will get 4th & Champions league because I cant see Tot winning 3 games. Europe though I aint so optimistic about..... As a whole we genuienly look shatered & with our current squad I feel our depth just isnt enough to carry us in Europe. Although I hope Im wrong, I just cant see us going to Greece and winning by 2. But either or, 4/5th in the prem is massive for us, we go onto the next with our heads held high! UTFV!!

Hi Luke. One positive is Spurs are losing 3-0 at the moment, so not just the points buffer being kept but the goal difference is better. Sometimes you need a snooker or two from another team. Good luck for next week and the Champions League is so close, that's the relentless pressure of the top part of the table! Unai Emery will work and get the best and right solution as possible with what he has available and you just never know with the 2nd leg. This experience however is invaluable for seasons to come, just 2/3 more big pushes needed - and be absolutely clinical when chances are created.

I agree on Olsen, I am one of the critics of him… but he put in probably the best game I’ve seen him play beginning to end for Villa.

drop whatever 1st 11 we have left for olympiakos and liverpool. Put in kids, Duran, chambers, tim, kellyman and whatever backup/ under 23s. hopefully have 1st 11 rested in time for Crystal Palace, probably find we need to pull it out the bag on last day

Chin up guys, i dont care how we get over the champions league line as long as we get there, we are pretty much relying on the same 13 or 14 players bedore we turn to the kids so im not surprised our form is totally off it, the big plus is that Tottenham's form has cannonballed off a cliff. You're right mate, it's been a tough campaign and it's caught up with us. We just need to hope we've already done enough. Even if we finish 5th and have got to the semis of a major European competition, I'd have snapped your hand off for that before the season started. We've had a great season and are progressing. Hopefully the backroom staff think twice before stripping the team down to its bare bones. Dendonker, Bidace, Archer, A. Ramsey - We’re paying the price big time for these backroom mistakes.

Limping over the line Luke, we had to play a RB at RM for 3/4's of the game, almost had a scare where our 3rd keeper was going to have his debut, Liverpool done us a solid over Spurs, we just need to back the lads as much as we can. they've given us fans an amazing season, 4th so close to being secured, and if they give us a good fight in Greece then even if we don't make it, i'll be happy, I just want them to fight for it as much as their tired legs can. Get the UCL Paycheck and strengthen squad numbers with injuries coming back, bring on next season. UTV

Unfortunately this indicates why we can’t compete in domestic cup competitions and Europe while trying to maintain top 4. Our squad has to be strengthened for next season.

Luke, I think the injury list is taking its toll on the players that are fit and have to play every game. Thankfully Spurs lost so nothing changes with regards to points or league position, other than the games are running out for them. Chin up and UTV !!

I think it's fatigue. We need a break. The Greek league give the teams in europe the weekend off to rest, our teams are flogged till they drop. I hope we were conserving energy for Thursday. Just got to do enough now to keep hold of 4th and if possible win on Thursday.

Agree, EPL schedule is absurd. For many it's virtually 12 months of various club and country competitions and travel. The Europa Conf final is May 29, the first Euro match is June 14, and Villa will be in the US for a preseason match on July 27. 😵

Feels like we’re going to end up like Leicester under Brendan Rogers, I hope I’m wrong. Hopefully we haven’t lost Rogers for the run in.

We have been great all season now right at the end when it matters we are running out of steam, not looking good for Thursday and having to rely on spurs losing is not good, I don’t get this tired thing I work 6 days a week 10 hours a day and I don’t complain about being tired, if they get champions league next season they going to complain they are tired, I hope I’m wrong but I’ve got a bad feeling that all the hard work is going down the drain

Didnt deserve anythink today midfield looks disjointed if we play like this wont pick up another point

As i read the comments Liverpool are 4-0 up😊. Well that is one problem sorted! But it is going to be a huge task for Uni to get this team to generate energy in Greece. If anyone can it is him. UTV ❤.

A win on Thursday and a draw against Liverpool will do for me. Such a hard long season with crucial players getting injured. The last two games have been poor. I know we are relying on Spurs failing but don’t forget we’ve already earned our points and seems worse coz Spurs are chasing! We lost again yes however, luck is currently ok being that Tottenham carry on losing. Couple draws or more may well do it for us. Improving squad depth (somehow) is a must. Overall though, feeling very positive. UTV
