GREAT VIDEO! I like the idea of doing "VS" videos. I was hoping to learn more about saturated fats (stearic, palmitic) VS polyunsaturated fats (linoleic, linolenic, oleic) in skin care. As someone who struggles with hyperpigmention, PIH, PIE, I wonder if one type is better than the other or if they even play a part in this condition or conditions like rosacea, excessively dry skin, etc. I would love to see a VS video that addresses some facts and myths about these fatty acids in skin care. Thanks for the great content. It's so educational and also very interesting.

@@starsof1889 Yes I agree! I suffer from post inflammatory hyperpigmentation and melasma. My melasma is my biggest struggle right now as it never truly goes away instead comes and goes and one little thing can flare it right back up. I live in Florida so the sun and heat is very strong here and really flares mine up . I have incorporated moisturizers that have free fatty acids in the form of linoleic and linolenic acid, which are supposed to be helpful in hyperpigmentation. The skin better science line has been wonderful, and are my favorites, though very expensive. Dr. Stephen is my dermatologist

I have to stop the video and comment. You raised such an important point. We often don’t follow one thing bcz we can’t follow the others. Like all or nothing n lose motivation. And what you said sleep >>> anything else is so so true. This is priceless in today’s time and the easiest thing to compromise. When the foundation is not strong and how can we expect to build on it! But i’m a victim of this too. I would worry about not doing other things (simply bcz I’m not disciplined) and then being unsuccessful affects my sleep. Sleep is non negotiable 😢

i completely agree that sleep is most important if you have to prioritize. i was waking up at 4am every day to workout getting no sleep and stressed at work. it aged me 5 years over the course of one year. this year, i got a new job, took a break from working out so i could reset my sleep schedule and prioritize my sleep for a few months, and now i’m back in the gym but i’m able to sleep 8 hours every single night and still wake up early enough to work out. sometimes you have to chose one to prioritize, and sleep should always come first!!

Doctor Andrea you are absolutely right and i totally agree with you about that cosmetic products have a supporting role in our lives and not the main one, which is our way of lifestyle the way it "SHOULD" be not the current one which is sedentary alongside with an unhealthy diet (i am also guilty because i like sugary stuff 😂 but i do try to avoid them at some degree like i drink tea and camomile without sugar just lemon wedges inside and there are still delicious 😊❤). Today's video was super enlightening because at least to me clarified the differences between these terms that seem so similar and can't tell them apart 😂 so thank you for that. You are so cool ❤ 😎. Have a wonderful day Miss Andrea 😊.

I have olive Mediterranean skin and used to have the same experience. I got my acne under control with tretinoin years ago but the slightest skin irritation - like minor paper cuts, minor burns from cooking oil, scratches, literally anything - produced dark marks that would take months to fade. It all changed when I started taking glutathione (liposomal form is best). Dark scars and marks from any skin irritation now fade much more quickly, like in a month or so instead of 5 or 6.

Be careful with AHA-s! I’ve tried an AHA/BHA exfoliant. And it made my skin really red and inflamed. If you have sensitive skin use one acid at a time. Do not use AHA/BHA together! The lower concentration the better! And don’t overuse them. One to two time a week is enough.

Assuming you live in the US, any physician can prescribe Tretinoin. Ask your GP for a prescription in the same percentage as you are getting from Curology. Then buy the other two actives in your Curology prescription separately. This will be more expensive initially but purchased separately these products will last much longer, saving you money over time.

Hey Dr. Dray! I love your videos and information. Big question here: is it true that by putting some sunscreens in a travel container for example, might reduce their potency or effectiveness? I saw a rumor about that and was curious on your take.

@@db-gb5xi thank you so much! I was really curious and trying to locate an answer. I have those keep your cadence capsules since I hate checking a bag while traveling and it’s looking like I will just need to purchase travel size options for spf moving forward for this very reason :/

I want to start using Adapalene on my face because I have been having bad acne flare-ups on my forehead, chin and upper mouth areas. For it to work do I still have to put it on my entire face (I have no acne on my cheeks/my cheeks are clear)?

  • @21972012145525

Adapalene is not a spot treatment. You might be better served with benzoyl peroxide cleanser or salicylic acid if you haven’t tried it yet. However if you have, you probably could use differin on your problem areas. Just don’t expect it to work like a spit treatment

Dr Dray has videos on melasma and without seeing you in person there's no way for her or any dermatology channel to diagnose you. She also has a video on dry wrinkles and other wrinkle videos as well.

Hi Dr dray I heard that alpha arbutin should not be used for more than 3 months Is there truth to this?

  • @Pikachuuuu0000

No. That's only for hydroquinone in my opinion. Alpha Arbutin can be used long term without side effects that come from excessive irritation.

That's the only reason I prefer alpha Arbutin over hydroquinone for my skin (brown skin) Because alpha Arbutin is not that irritating, can be used long term.. i don't have to worry about side effects. I've seen people who have used it for 1 year and everything is fine.
