Briggs and Stratton Powered Homemade Prototype Buggy
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
A short video of my homemade 3hp Briggs & Stratton Buggy.
The buggy has an upside down car differential and a 3 speed gearbox. The primary drive is belt drive and this is used as a clutch. The final drive is chain drive from the gearbox to the differential. The steering system is a steering box from a mitsubishi colt and the steering rods have been modified to suit the buggy. It isn't very fast but can tow a car trailer or a boat trailer and it goes anywhere.

Gear selection : 1st - Granny 2nd- Great Grandma 3rd- self propelled lawn mower.
I've never seen anything so close to what what my grandfather built in the early 70s as what you have here. I inherited near 30 years ago and is a project to be rebuilt.
You really should have airbags and a 4 point racing seatbelt at those speeds.. Saftey 1st , apart from that very neat ! and clever

that crazy gear reduction though... it might be slow, but it will drag a freaking elephant!
it's a park bench what moves.
Nice job. Beats watching TV, which is what most people do with their free time. For all who complain of the low speed, it can be solved by changing the final sprocket sizes ,or replacing the trans with a comet cvt system (under $200). The first choice would sacrifice towing ability. The second choice would sacrifice reverse gear. But either choice would make the machine infinitely faster.
The most useful machine someone can build great job love the fact that it's only 3hp but the transmission can take the weight
I like how the throttle and gear shift is behind the driver, thats how al cars should be!
i love it , not so fast but cool and well build. Nice job man !
The bearings in front of trans will eventually give you problems if shaft not supported on the end. It is designed to go into a pilot bearing for support, but great build. Love it!
Nice job! I can tell you've spent a lot of time working out how to put that cart together and make it run. The results look great.
good old american craftsmanship. Green onions, was just waiting for wolf man jack to come on.
Lol, when you hear the music start up, you know he's about to hit the town!
Very nice build. I know I've tried before to fabricate things from scratch like that but i just don't have the inspiration. Kudos to you, you did a very nice job!
Cool buggy ...love that music..green onions isn't it?

I don't think the drivetrain is heavy enough. You might want to beef it up a little. LOL!!

You think duce and half axles, will last with that briggs ?
Thats a damn fine yard dog you got there.
Well done. Quite functional.
sweet i would love to have that!!
thats a fine job thanks for giving me a smile
Great little machine
thumbs up for building the slowest go cart to date haha! but I'm sure you could tow something with it.
very creative; thanks for sharing.
Very retro. I like it.
That's freaking sweet!!
Youve put good care into that
Perfect for a ride to the store and buy some ice cream and impress the ladies ;)
Man..,that is one heck of a machine!I love the overkill on everything.Shouldnt have to go over any of it.Bike hdlebar exhaust is cool too!I love it!
You should sell plans, I would totally buy a set!
Love it, cool song selection too! :D
Awesome rear end lol!
cool car man...
That's pretty good utility for just 3 hp.
I thought you was going to roll-over on some of them corners!
Buggy & Booker T = nice combination.
Thats Bad ass Nice Job
that is pretty nifty
oh man, ive bin looking at motorised homemade bikes but i think ill make somethin like this!
Friends, the real future of transportation right here! I applaud you, sir! =D
Cool project. You get a thumbs up. :)
Classic! Need a long arm to reach back to change that gear lever tho!
very nice. like the clutch idea. would be ideal with some wide tires as a golf cart cruiser!
What a beast.👍
i love it. iam making one. thanks
That's COOL!
super cool, is it still running? You could make a small snow plow for it . seems like it would work great for that as well. I want to build a small 4x4 / i was just looking at what other folks have built.
We are again in the old times in WW1! :D
well done
I'd use it if I lived on a farm (i'd love it) and I like the 50's 60's style on it.
goodjob nice work i like it:)
Man I want one.
good work young man , now to all the people who dont like this! whats wrong with you?? this is what being human is all abt, he used his mind, his hands, then had FUN FUN FUN .
love the green onions song
slowly ...but its great....creative
super cool !!!!!!!!!!!!
LOVE it!
Id love one gor a golf cart at a campground but the steering on the left lol
Amazing
Good job, I like it. But put some springs or shocks under the seat.
Top!
I'm super jealious, I want to make one like this.
hold the wheel while I shift baby
I LOVE THIS... tell me more..... i have a twin briggs that id love to do the same with
Haul that boat around!
If you find time for it, could you please make a video where you show and/or explain the entire buggy and how it works. I'm thinking steering mechanism, clutch etc. It would really help people like me who wants to make a similar vehicle
so good music choise :D
NICE!!!!!
If you did put a simple, but cool, bodywork on it? That would have been (even more) awesome!
Great :D
Cool!
im guessing it didnt get the boat up the hill at the end but still cool
Cute, I love it, send me one
I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its more like a golf cart/tractor thingy than a buggy but great work
thats sick but can that lil motor pull it good with all those spider gears and whatnot?
Where did you found such a small gearbox? I do wanna make something similar but i dont know where to find a small gearbox like that, the only gearboxes i can think of are from bikes but I have no idea how to put those together with another engine.

Faby Wolfy Buy a tractor grass mower gearbox :)
Remove the governor and put on a gas pedal and I would try to create some sort of linkage or something to work for that shifter!
Could any steering wheel be used because I want to build something similar with a 1961-79 IH Loadstar steering wheel
thats sweet :D
ok that thing is fuckin amazing....kudos to you sir. i'm in the process of building a go kart with a briggs flathead 5hp...and i need a high flow carb. non insulated tank, stiffer valve springs and now new crankcase bolts b/c i decided to tighten them too much.. :O. but i plan to get around 8-10 hp out of it. :)). as i was told by an avid go kart racer.
Nice
Lmao he was "keying" the governor I did that in mine couldn't believe how fast she went
redesign for kids, put the engine at the front and face the exhaust some where safe.. but its nice dude
how did you end up putting a sprocket where the u joint used to be on the differential? just welded it there? thanks
dude just looking at this video i have so many idea to make this awesome and sellable to the public message me if you care because thats awesome
i didnt know a 3 hp go kart like that could tow a boat

Gabriel Fromyhr With the right gearing you can. It's like the 2.5 Ton + Troop Trucks in ww2 that were powered by a 115 Hp Flathead six. They could only go about 45 mph. However, they could haul 2 and a half tons in their bed, and tow twice that! Greater torque means better takeoff, and better hauling, but at a cost of top speed.
thanks man :)
So do you have no clutch, but instead for the a clutch you move that center wheel in the front up and down to increase tension on the pulley, and that is your clutch? And down to release tension, so belt slips and its in neutral?
@ZboxFreak7 hey, have you tried bending or welding the gear shifter so it goes under the seat and up to where your sitting? btw, how much did this rig cost to build?
nice terrain, where you at?
My friend, what was the music you used in your video? It was awesome.

I have that exact engine. I rebuilt it but I can't get it to run.
lol the bench cart
Mantap bang, saya juga lagi membuat mini buggy 👍🙂
Great job! But you should put a bigger engine.
What car did that differential come out of?
Ok. Thanks.
Bad ass !!
@ZboxFreak7 she'll probably still haul good n plenty in first still after the modification.
