Briggs and Stratton Powered Homemade Prototype Buggy

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A short video of my homemade 3hp Briggs & Stratton Buggy.
The buggy has an upside down car differential and a 3 speed gearbox. The primary drive is belt drive and this is used as a clutch. The final drive is chain drive from the gearbox to the differential. The steering system is a steering box from a mitsubishi colt and the steering rods have been modified to suit the buggy. It isn't very fast but can tow a car trailer or a boat trailer and it goes anywhere.

I've never seen anything so close to what what my grandfather built in the early 70s as what you have here. I inherited near 30 years ago and is a project to be rebuilt.

You really should have airbags and a 4 point racing seatbelt at those speeds.. Saftey 1st , apart from that very neat ! and clever

Nice job. Beats watching TV, which is what most people do with their free time. For all who complain of the low speed, it can be solved by changing the final sprocket sizes ,or replacing the trans with a comet cvt system (under $200). The first choice would sacrifice towing ability. The second choice would sacrifice reverse gear. But either choice would make the machine infinitely faster.

The bearings in front of trans will eventually give you problems if shaft not supported on the end. It is designed to go into a pilot bearing for support, but great build. Love it!

Gabriel Fromyhr With the right gearing you can. It's like the 2.5 Ton + Troop Trucks in ww2 that were powered by a 115 Hp Flathead six. They could only go about 45 mph. However, they could haul 2 and a half tons in their bed, and tow twice that! Greater torque means better takeoff, and better hauling, but at a cost of top speed.

So do you have no clutch, but instead for the a clutch you move that center wheel in the front up and down to increase tension on the pulley, and that is your clutch? And down to release tension, so belt slips and its in neutral?
