    Thanks for making this video - it saved me at least an hour of messing around trying to understand the choke on this older mower

    Thank you I have a 1980 11hp Murray doesn't smoke or use a drop of oil . I bought it new in 1980. The float went bad and I found a brand new carb for $31 tax included . So basically cheaper to go new than put a kit . Taking the old carb off the bottom linkage fell off and what a time I was having trying to figure it out . Today has to be my lucky day you have the exact same mower.

    Machinery Restorer Hi Re the old style B&S engines I’ve got an old 8hp in a Murray 8/30 and it’s getting a blocked grass discharge chute to the two rear collectors in perfect dry conditions the guy at the mower shop suspected insufficient engine rpm , if I adjust the governor as discussed & I still can’t get enough revs does this mean it’s a tired engine, it doesn’t smoke and sounds healthy, any advice would be appreciated and thanks for a great video very easy to understand.

    The assembly of the lawn mower could be done without any problems kzread.infoUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend I just puzzled something about the red strange “key”. However, it quickly turned out that this creates a kind of contact bridge between battery packs and lawn mowers. An additional backup as a father of a 1 year old nephew is great!! :-)

My problem is I have no manual to see how the mechanism for acceleration and chock is put together. If you have a manual or you can make some pictures of that, it will be mach appreciated. Thank you in advance

    Very good video. I have a 12 HP B & S as well but a 1996. Went to clean the carb, and the choke arm came off and is not back on correctly. Also the small needle inside the carb, trying to find out how that goes back in, it has a small little wire made I guess to be a spring, and that is not back in correctly. Just re-wired my mover an FINALLY got it to crank, but will not run. Certain it is the carb needle being inserted incorrectly. Do you have video on carb cleaning?

    I had a question, let say i had a Briggs engine that has the little knob to connect a governor lever to it but i wanted to run a regular carb on it (plastic carb),could i leave that governor disconnected or does it need to be hooked up? i know is a strange question but i got a motor thats bare, i got it for hardly nothing and its nearly new but i dont have a carb with a governor, just a normal carb, the block is identical to the blocks without governors except for the little nub that comes out by the oil filler cap (governor shaft), what do you think?

    This is random and a long shot. But do you have or can you get a picture of the linkage behind the plate? Where the spring and all the rods connect?

    Will this cause the engine to be extremely cold natured. Mine will not stay running when its first started. After about 5 minutes it runs like new.

    How do you reinstall the governor shaft keeper pin? How does the hole, where the pin goes, line up, and what does it line up with? Can it be lined back up without taking the engine off the mower, and then removing the crank pulley and bottom cover ?

    What would happen to the revs of the engine if the screw you turned clockwise was turned the wrong way? I ask this because i have put a "new" engine in my lawn tractor and if you go anywhere near the throttle it revs the arse end off of it. Would this be a governor issue or a problem with the carb? Thanks Ben.

    Yeah I had a 12 horse flattie on a Murray I had I swear it was stronger than the ohv 15 horse I have now on a Craftsman. And the flattie would rev alot higher without floating the valves. Guess that's from having a shorter lighter valvetrain than the ohv

    What is the spring that wraps around the throttle linkage for? The one from the govoner arm to the carberator. Do I need to have that installed?

  • @johanh2319

    @johanh2319

    3 жыл бұрын

    Have you had an answer yet? Without it there's a bit of slack on that rod that joins the throttle on carb to governor arm. It helps with more accurate throttle response when using your machine. Without it it might lag slightly or surge

    Hi i have old 12.5 Briggs with side plate Gov that seems ok and smooth running and loose when idle throttle then tight at full throttle BUT i can only get 3/4 power and push throttle further and no change. So does this mean the govt arm has slipped a little in that clamp OR the govt spring needs adj- and how? thanks

    The easiest way to fix a Briggs and Stratton engines is undo the 4 nuts and take engine off, then tie 30 metre's of rope to the engine and use the engine as a boat anchor, 3rd, buy a Honda engine and then you will have a motor that starts first go every time and is fitted with what i call a "Normal" carby with no linkages to fall off, problem solved "Forever"

    You've got to be mechanically retarded to not keep these Briggs and Strattons running. My last tractor was received beaten up, coked up, caked eith oil residue and smoking 4 years ago ... new headgasket, carburetor, and rebuild kit for the lower deck and its been running great right. Plenty of videos on how to work on them and they are a dime a dozen with abundant parts available
