briggs 5hp timing fail

did a cold start on this engine and hillbilly holler commented about the valve clearance and timing so I went back and checked it.

Yes! You set vales like I said one open set closed valve then do it for the other valve. It don't have to be perfect! Just set them in a neutral spot. One valve fully open and you won't miss the compression release spot on the cam. It's simple it's not rocket science it's a small engine.

Appreciate it hillbilly. I gotta research that crank gear now. It has three different timing marks. Guess I could pull the head off and try each mark by rotation.

That being a 5 hp you can install a 3hp Briggs flywheel and make a bracket for the 3 hp coil to make it spool faster to get to speed and less rotational mass so less of a parasitic draw on hp and torque so you get to top end faster with like 2 pounds less pull on the engine. This is why most racers run a Briggs so they can do this. Ugh I swear I wish I can build you an engine!
