Brief Comparison of Warm Season Grass Types | Bermudagrass | St. Augustine | Zoysia
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Today's video gives a very brief overview of the three most common types of warm season lawns (especially here in Texas), bermuda, St. Augustine, and zoysia. These turf types can be found in warmer climates across the globe, but each offers there own unique sets of advantages, disadvantages, and challenges.

I have found St Augustine to be very drought tolerant, perform exceptionally well in shade and have had only minimal issues with fungus/disease; mostly from overwatering and evening watering. I now water with a Raicho and schedule my watering to end by sunrise and only 1-2 days a week to get roots to grow deeper. The Bermuda I have had in the past has also been very drought resistant and even if it dies, it will be back next season or when the water comes; it’s like a cockroach in a nuclear disaster, it will survive. Both are good grasses and comes down to exactly what you have said, preference!
You seem to be in a similar situation to me, 10 years ago. When I moved to my house, I had a beautiful Bermuda lawn, and 2 sapling trees. Those trees are now 20 ft tall, and it doesn’t get the sun it needs. First lawn died out, I had it resodded and that lasted 2 years and died out. Now I have zoysia and a beautiful looking lawn once again. I see those smaller trees in your yard, but be prepared to switch to Zoysia when those become full on shade trees.
I’m in Los Angeles….i have st Augustine in my front yard and zoysia in the back….been cutting them both at 2 inches for 10 years wondering why my grass is always dead 😂…thanks to u I let it grow and started cutting at 3 inches and now I’m at 4….i finally have green grass yall 😂😂😂😂

Hey that’s awesome! Glad you were able to put it into practice.
I am looking to do some seed pre-germination in a 5 gallon bucket? Ever done this with success? If so, trying to figure out the best seed to use for Bermuda grass.
Wish I could sculpt out some st aug sections in the shady areas of my bermuda lawn 😓 Dons Lawns is the only one I’ve seen attempt it on yt.
The crazy part is that i have all three grass types plus spf30 kbg in south Florida
Would you know why my bermuda grass is turning lemon lime color in certain areas? Thanks from Kyle, Texas!

Often happens because of wrong fertilizer application (usually from dog pee). I’d check ph levels and make sure you are applying enough N and K to bring it to a nice green.
What zoysia seed product do you recommend?

Maybe he could make use of some "drift" when spraying his own yard.

It is for sure! It just isn’t common where I live in Texas. Went with the three most common in our area .
