Very cool! After doing studio pottery on and off for a few years, I realize I prefer hand construction to the wheel. So many more possibilities and techniques. Thank you - I will try a smaller version of this when I return to the studio in September.

To Haters who are afraid of having no wheel - Take a look at the Puebloan potters in the Rio Grande valley of New Mexico, a U.S. State, since way before 1776. They do beautiful work, and many artists have international fame. Maria Martinez and Popovi Da for starters.

Depends. With the wheel it is harder to make larger pieces until you have worked for quite a while. Handbuild allows for a distortion, not "perfect circle" which can be appealing. Depends on what the desired outcome is ultimately

The coiled portion looked so much like the bowl formed slab portion, couldn't you simply have joined two bowl formed slabs together? wide part to wide part then cut out the base to create the hole on top. Are the replys being deleted? every time i click to read a reply to a question nothing is there.

you dont really get to choose the colours with a glaze it all depends on the thickness of the glaze and the kiln you use for instance using a red you can get blue :)
