Rhino for Architects Course ✔️ howtorhino.com/rhino-for-arch...
Extended Tutorial + Extra Project Files 👉 / 49228239
KZread Tutorial + Project Files 👉 / 49229348
In this tutorial, we will demonstrate how to create a brick facade based on the Crystal House project in Amsterdam designed by MVRDV. You will learn how to set the two types of brick dimensions, then how to create the plane where those bricks will be located and how to orient them on the facade. We will also show how to use Collision and Solid Intersection components in order to take out the bricks where the openings are positioned.
In the last part of the tutorial, you will learn how to create a dissolving effect in Grasshopper. On top of that we will cover adjusting the range and the level of transition combining Domain, ReMap and Graph Mapper components.
The extended version of this tutorial is going to be a separate video that's going to cover how to create different types of single brick texture, how to map them on a brick using Box Mapping and how to randomly apply those different mapped textures on a brick wall. Based on those textures we will create V-Ray materials. In addition to that we are going to apply Glass material, you will learn how to add a V-Ray infinite plane, the lighting and lastly, we will create renders using V-Ray Next for Grasshopper.

    sometimes, the bricks are the same size just layed once on the long side and once on the shortside, and when placed on the long side two bricks are used so that the width is the same as a brick layed on the shortside, its cheaper than buying 2 different sets of bricks :)

    Thank you for this great tutorial !! Very detailed and helped me out a lot 🙏🏼🙏🏼, I have a small problem I wonder if there is a solution to it; instead of using this on a plane wall, I would like to use it on a curved wall/ surface. Do you have any idea what I can change in the algorithm to make that happen ?

    Great work as always! Thanks for the tutorial. One simple question, do you use an app to take those screenshots and draw on top of them?

    Thank you Alejandro! We use the Lightshot app for Windows. It's very handy for sketching on top of screenshots.

    If you were to render the individual bricks though, a single texture would look flat. How would you give it some natural variation?

    At the beginning you say the normal brick is in 2 sizes (normal brick & double brick). I just want to clarify that it isn't a double brick, those smaller bricks are just a normal brick turned 90 degrees & the longer brick is placed normally. This is because the brick wall has 2 layers of bricks so every other course they will lay out the bricks turned 90 degrees to structurally tie the wall together.

    I am afraid you're mistaken. Please check the pictures about this project on archdaily website and you will get the idea how it's made: www.archdaily.com/785923/crystal-houses-mvrdv/5717988fe58ece9e0b00011f-crystal-houses-mvrdv-photo?next_project=no

    what @studio22a34 meant was that the conventional brick bonding only uses one set of brick dimensions, which is probably true for the actual bricks on top of the glass ones, the custom dimensions shown by the architects are probably only for the glass bricks (since they are unconventional)@@HowtoRhino of course this has no effect on your modelling since the aim is just to replicate the visual appearance.

    How do you do the syntax part when u are doing the split tree for the contour lines?

  • @HowtoRhino

    @HowtoRhino

    8 ай бұрын

    You need to take the “Panel” and inside of it type: {0,2,…} Please make sure the data placed in the D input of the Split Tree is simplified (you can enable it on the right click of the input). Hope it helps.
