Brian Regan & Bob Talk Writing Comedy, Being Willing to Fail, & Brian's New Special “On the Rocks”

Комедия

Stand-up Brian Regan and Bob look back at the early days of comedy, where all you needed to get on stage was a tank of gas. They also talk about taking chances in your art, finding the humor in the mundane, and how sometimes the best writing takes place on stage. Plus, Brian and Bob unpack their similar frustrations of being labeled a “clean” or “ dirty comedian”.
Don’t miss Brian’s new special “On the Rocks”, coming to Netflix on February 23rd!

About the Podcast:
BOB SAGET’S HERE FOR YOU is a podcast that is like no other- Because it goes inside Bob’s Saget’s mind, and then quickly filters out through his mouth. Bob has a way of calming people with genuine empathy and humor while they’re going through a difficult time, which we all are at present. Reaching his unusually diverse audience that he talks to as a friend, Bob is the dad with great advice, the irreverent funny guy who’s always there when you need a laugh, and the free-associative Bob who goes off on crazy tangents then returns to the subject at hand, as serious or as comedic as it may be, to wrap up each episode in a way only Bob can do. Because he really does believe, “He’s here for you."

When is comes to Brian, his audience doesn't describe him as clean in a diminished sense. They are referring to being able share his humor with their grandmother - Laugh along with their parents - Play it in the car with their kids. etc. One of the best period.

He's mostly a clean comic. He's very relatable in his material, and his mannerisms and random shouting that exaggerates the situations really hit home the humor aspects. Like in his classic "me monster" routine or the plane situation in first class. I appreciate the time and the great thoughts about a tremendous comical genius. God Bless, John German

I was working a very very boring security job years ago, in the middle of the night. Luckily, I was on a private property and I could drive the patrol vehicle at about 3mph. So I watched one of Brian's specials on my phone, and it was just one of the most entertaining things I'd ever seen. It got me through the night and made the job less boring. After that, I watched everything of Brian's that I could find. Good memories and a great start to being a fan. As far as Bob goes, I wish he had done this format from the very beginning. I've never been a fan of any of his work, but this is good.

Great interview. The one thing that hit me was around 01:14:00 when Bob was talking about a convo he had with Bill Burr, about hurrying up if he wanted to do specials and whatnot. Hearing that now made me stop and be like "Whoa...that actually came true." And it was less than a year later. RIP Bob, you were a legend.

Regarding the 'clean comedian' bit of this--- I think a lot of people believe that today it is HARDER to tell a joke that doesn't involve the bathroom, bedroom, or gutter... and have the audience erupt in laughs. Society doesn't generate this type of humor like it used to 50+ years ago, even though everyone can relate to human things that aren't dirty, not everyone can relate to specific dirty jokes. Being able to pull off the type of comedy that Brian Regan has perfected is a very difficult feat. Its a tribute to his professionalism and excellence in his craft.

I appreciate when they write clean comedian because then I know that there will not be an excessive amount of genital jokes, repetitive pelvic thrusts and obscene hand gestures in order to emphasize a point in their comedy routine. Before I go to a comedy club, I go to KZread and sample the comedians work. This way I know ahead of time whether or not I want to see their show. Everything nowadays is about sampling, and previewing. Costco does it. And it’s done online, as well. Things are posted on Instagram so that people get an idea of what that particular merchant is offering. Whether they are a hairdresser or a comedian, people want to know ahead of time, what to expect in exchange for their money.

what I notice about comedy is live it's not as funny. it's not like music where you want to hear the hits. it's like comedy has to be fresh, have fresh tracks you've never heard before or -as an audience member-i find myself not laughing. yet I can listen to comedy over and over on KZread and laugh my butt off. not sure that makes sense but when Brian mentioned how he learned not to rely on old jokes for laughs that's when realized he needed to work on new stuff and realizes he can do it. from scratch essentially. like a writer or something. I know I'm not very clear on this but I tried.

I want to control what I imagine in m,y head being a visual person artist and have to fast forward thru most sex stuff nude crap in shows . U know they leave nothing to the imagination on our level or standard !!
