great players come and go but its what they leave behind is what counts..rugby in ireland was a 4th choice sport, watched only around the 6 nations and then this guy came on the scene. it is something SH people will never ever understand as they have come from such rich rugby heritage. He single handedly brought this country from part time spectators to insane fans all because of his god given talents. Ask any centre on this planet-"who do you base your game on?" There is only one answer.

@accident111 You can't give examples of single players praising him as it would mean nothing. But, the fact that many world class players mutually agree that he is one of, if not the best centre in world is what makes it count. He's been praised for years for his presence on the pitch. He's a like a 7 in the tackle and breakdown. Then if you even dare give him an inch of space he will punish you for it. It's just a known fact that he's one of the greatest centre's too play the game.

@velyan12 I would say definitely one of the best flankers ever to play, but BOD should definitely have won player of the year 2009. By a mile. He won the grand slam for Ireland and the Heineken cup for Leinster, neither of which they'd have won without him. He then went on to be arguably the stand out player on the Lions tour and in Irelands autumn internationals. He was incredible all year, it was a joke they gave it to McCaw

@tony10396861 Don't get me wrong I'm a huge fan of BOD, but that years player of the year shoulda gone to Fourie du Preeze, Lions tour Winner, Super 12 Winner with the Bulls(scoring 2 tries in the final that turned the game), Tri-Nations Winner(Having beat NZ 3 times on the trot) and he is an instrumental part of every team he played in.

He simply is the greatest player ever, people from the southern hemesphere will disagree and say jona lomu but in fairness he had no skill and flair quite like brian o driscoll.

When I ever read or listen to someone name their greatest rugby team from the professional era, and if they leave out Brian O' Driscoll, I generally scoff and assume they know nothing about rugby. I can't help it.
