Brian Hioe (Journalism) - Game Changers with Emily Y. Wu - EP 20

BRIAN HIOE (丘琦欣) is a founding editor of NEW BLOOM MAGAZINE, an on-line publication that grew out of the pivotal Sunflower Movement in Taiwan. In March 2014, students occupied the national parliament for a month to protest against a trade deal with China. Many of the students activists have since become politicians, leaders in NGOs, or academics. Brian launched an English-language news site to cover activism and youth politics in Taiwan and Asia Pacific. He also has a physical space, where he runs community gatherings and speaker series.
“Taiwanese young people decided to really stand up for what they felt was their future being at stake.”
