Brian and Charles is a MUST SEE Movie | Brian and Charles (2022) Movie Review

Ойын-сауық

An endearing outlier, Brian lives alone in a Welsh valley, inventing oddball contraptions that seldom work. After finding a discarded mannequin head, Brian gets an idea, and three days later with a washing machine and sundry spare parts, he’s invented Charles, an artificially intelligent robot. Before long, Charles is intrigued by the wider world or whatever lies beyond the cottage where Brian has hidden him away. Should Brian and Charles be on your watchlist? Watched this truly lovely and funny film today, it’s captivating, certain must see. Really good acting, great but simple story, with surprises, excellent editing, sound track, script and directing.

Having been a programmer for 17 (awful) years, I loved the way the film captured the absolute idiocy of “Artificial Intelligence” (remembering that one connotation of artificial is “fake”): “I want to sit in the front. I want to sit in the front!” “I want to go to Hono loop loop…” does not compile…

Great review! I'm looking forward to seeing this once it's available for home viewing. Sounds like it's definitely down my alley and a good quirky film to watch with my Dad. Also, it isn't every day a film features characters that sound like this protagonist. I also like this actor.

The main actor David Earl is also present in two of Ricky Gervais's most amazing #TV masterpieces, and no, not The Office! He's in the touching Derek, and the utterly incredible emotional rollercoaster that is After Life.

I watched this movie and loved it. It’s so nice to read a glowing review of a movie I loved. I had seen David Earl in afterlife and then came across the short film on KZread. I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that they made a full length movie. It’s currently streaming on Amazon prime right now. Definitely worth watching.

Love it when unexpected movies turn out good. Also, that mannequin looks scarily like Jim Broadbent!

Chris I agree with your review. I read about this in a list of top UK movies and coincidentally the next day I was on a plane from Vancouver to Toronto and they had the movie. I watched it and laughed so much I thought my seat mates would wonder what was going on. Then 5 days later I watched it again on way home and when I got home bought it and watched with my wife. Such a sublimely ridiculous plot but screamingly funny. I am rooting for them at the BAFTAS

The song, So Happy Together - Imagine me and you, I do - just fits these two ! Well, I think you're right, it's long enough to entertain, not overboard! Also, the 'villains' are easy enough to hate - because. the Hero here is so likable. A strange tale that's endearing? :) A treat.

David Earl and “Philomena Cunk” (Diane Morgan) should do a project. They were great together in “Afterlife”…

I saw this just today, and I thought it was great too, even if Charles looked like he was going to fall apart at any moment. Yes, the bully farmer family were obnoxious and hard to believe, especially when the head of the family appropriated the village bonfire AND Charles to burn on it, but they got their comeuppance with the other villagers turning on them as well.

This was made just up the road from where I live in Wales and I totally missed any form of marketing for it. It’s currently showing at my local town hall for a few nights, but I’ve just bought it on Prime 👍🏻 🤖 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

It’s a terrific, friendly film with its heart in a truly good place. Some may think it’s twee, but it’s sense of humour lifts it above that, I think. From these descriptions, I might not have enjoyed this or even watched it, but I’m so glad that I did. I must dig out the original short, if it’s here on KZread.
