Severely underrated tea video. The same goes to your whole channel. I’m so glad I’ve explored more into the spiritual, mindful and ceremonial side to tea from you, than just the overly specific rules and qualitative aspects that you can get with gongfu.

This entire series makes me think of the 四藝, 中醫, 香道, and 氣功. How compatible. How harmonious. How...ephemeral...too.

Thank you for this poignant reminder about why and how the two different methods are distinct. It is a blessing to be able to reflect on where I am in my practice and which method would be more healing or guiding at any particular moment in my life. It is very helpful to realize that I may lean more to the sensitive side and thus could use a little more equanimity that bowl tea brings or vice versa with gongfu tea. The comparison with the space between the charcoal is a visceral metaphor that I find very useful. I hope everyone can find resonance with these lessons. Thank you for making this video, Hut Family!

Thank you for your videos! 🙏🏼 I find them so informative and inspiring. I do have to say that I do not completely agree with the keeping of the two traditions of gongfu tea and bowl tea separate. As someone who practices zen and gongfu tea, I’ve found that my tea practice has helped me find zen in tea and in everything. And the acceptance and beauty of the moment as it is. 💙 In that space there is no separation. Any kind of tea ceremony has potential presence and stillness. However, the movements are different between bowl and gongfu tea and that is why I like to do the first two brews in silent meditation, and then have the rest of the brews to talk about the sensitivities of quality. I enjoy getting both aspects of the traditions every tea session, every day. Thanks for reading my thoughts about it :)

This is a complicated topic that goes well beyond the confines of a comment here. There are overlapping aspects of gongfu and bowl tea. Without separation, however, we have found that it is challenging to reach the depths of either one. The partnership between them is also impacted by blending. We also feel a need to respect these lineages by not blending them. By “blending” we mean mixing up the teawares and techniques, not the spirit, ambience, meditative quality or any aspect of the approach in terms of cultivation. Perhaps that is a source of the confusion here. Nonetheless, each tradition has its values and when you value different things, you head in different directions. For us, in our tradition, this separation is paramount. Thanks for your kindness!

@@globalteahut Ah, I see. Thank you very much for your thoughtful reply and clarification. That did help me understand more clearly what you meant. I can understand how investing in each tradition separately helps you go deeper in both. I also now understand what you mean by blending, and how that is different from the spirit of the session. I will reflect on this further. Thank you 🙏🏼

I became aware of GTH maybe 6 months ago. I am just in love all of what you are sharing. I have been seeking this Way for many years but haven’t known where to go to learn. Thank you so much for sharing this information in the spirit of tea, in the way that you do. It is admirable. I since have placed a few sizable orders. And am about to place another. Which I am very excited for, as I am ready to take the next step in my journey to begin to offer small ceremonies to my community. I have been looking lately for a GTH video that I came across a little while back that I am having a hard time finding. I am wondering if you can help me locate it. It was the instructional video on how to hold bowl tea ceremony, showing all the details of how to perform the ceremony properly. Is this video still available? Thank you.

Yes, search fro leaves in a bowl ceremony. We also have online courses, you may know: www.teahutcourses.com where you can learn ceremonies etc. in greater depth. They are affordable.

Great Video, thank you for sharing everything that you do, because of this channel, tea has entered into my life in a very different way. I noticed that when i first tried gongfu tea, it was definitly a different expirience and i already tend to go between styles because it most certaintly is a individual expirience between the two, With gongfu it's very engaging, its more of the moment, all focus and thought and all your senses become engaged into the tea and its easy to spoil myself with it if i do it to often i stop appreciating the tea as much and focus more on trying to make it perfect, so i feel like gongfu while amazing introduction to my life, should be used sparingly for myself. bowl tea on the other hand has a similar effect like mentiond where you just start drinking so much of it, i beleive the two styles of tea brewing share a friendship among drinkers or atleast myself that offers balance between these and im coming to realize that no matter how tea is made, its the right way particularly when prepared for and during moments that are best suited to it. Anyways thanks again for everything you do on here and everyone else reading this. i wish you all the best.

Thank you for all you do and for these wonderful videos! Would love to attend a course when you reopen at a new location. On a technical note, is there a reason to switch between the main camera and the secondary one from a 3/4 side angle? I noticed this in another video and in both cases it took me out of the experience (it feels like the teacher is talking personally to me, then suddenly I'm watching the teacher from the side talking to someone in an almost behind-the-scenes style.) The topics are so interesting and so well presented that a single straight shot will not get boring. Unless of course i've missed the reason for the secondary angle, in which case i apologize for bringing this up. I realize this may come across as nitpicking - the gongfu of video (who cares about the angles?!?) What really matters is the generosity of your spirit and the knowledge you share freely with the world. So thank you again, blessings to you and everyone at GTH!

What would you consider the ideal volume range for gong fu teacups and bowl tea bowls? It would seem to me, gong fu might be 40-100mL while bowls ought to be 200-300mL.
