    yeah I think as long as you add it at the very end of the boil maybe at flame out or while you're chilling you probably be okay. I definitely wouldn't recommend adding it at the beginning of the boil lol

    Great video! Last coffee beer I did I cold-steeped 8oz of local coffee grounds in the beer post-fermentation and tasted it a couple times a day. I was so surprised by the amount of coffee aroma that I got within just a few hours! I think I ended up letting it sit in the fermenter for around 48 hours.

    Nice. I only drink dark biers, so this video was cool. Remember, that porters and stouts should be served slightly cooler than room temperature. This way a lot of the aroma and flavor comes out. I also do my porters and stouts under nitro, which gives it a very creamy and thick mouth feel. Last tip, porters and stouts should always be under low carbonation. Almost like a flat beer.

It might be what you are saying (70%/30%), but I cannot remember off the top of my head. As for how long. It depends. About a day or two. The ultimate test is when you pour it, and the cascading looks right.

    I add whole beans to the fermenter for 1 day a ferment temperature and 3 to 4 days cold crash (inc temp drop) . Really extracts everything and tastes great, proper cold-brew coffee taste. It's smooth and pulls the chocolate hints with it... As an experiment, I dried out the beans, ground them and attempted to brew a coffee from them, yuk - no coffee flavour left and just beery.v Clear;y extracted all that could...

    I recently made a coffee stout by adding my grounds after flame out and cooling the wort to 190-200, and let steep for about 10 minutes. After that I cooled it and pitched yeast. I was not sure what to do with the grounds, so I left them in for primary and filtered out for secondary. There is for sure a coffee hint, but not terribly strong. Maybe a bit on the bitter side. For my next go at this I was going to do a cold brew addition, but then I thought - what if I make the cold brew with some chilled wort in the fridge, then add it about 3 days into primary. Thoughts on the idea? (I am still a relative newbie - only been brewing for a little over a year now. Small batch brewer) Thanks for the vid!

  • @ShortCircuitedBrewers

    @ShortCircuitedBrewers

    Yeah I wouldn't overcomplicate it to be honest with you just do the cold brew with water. Keep it simple. Your best bet is always to add it when packaging, whether that's the keg or bottle. If you had it during fermentation a lot of the aroma is going to be driven off by the fermentation.

    I've had chocolate notes from it before. I suppose it depends on the manufacturer. Here is a description from what I used.. Hugh Baird chocolate malt is typically used in Brown Ales, Porters and Stouts. When it comes to chocolate malt, a little can go a long way! Bairds chocolate malt *will provide flavors of chocolate and coffee* to your beer, with a slight astringency.
