A note re the grinder overdosing - I should have RTFM 😆. You can adjust the grinding time, it's on p.27 of the manual.

I bought a time machine next week. It went wrong tomorrow, so I rang the shop and I'm going to take it back yesterday. The bloke in the shop said, "Ah, they don't make them like they're going to anymore".

Nice! I noticed a lot of machines are coming out with PID even on the cheaper end these days. I think flow control will follow in the near future.

Would you please take a look at the Breville Barista Mini/ Sunbeam Mini Barista. It is sold as the Calphalon Temp iQ in the US. In the US and Australia it has been listed as "Amazon's Choice" for its category, which probably has made it fairly popular. An entertaining note is that the US version is one of those appliances that has a high list price ($499), yet is typically sold at a much lower one ($280 - $350) with an "On Sale" sticker.

Chur from NZ (from UK originally). This machine caught my eye. Feel like I'm about to down the home barista rabbit hole. I have a cheap salter machine right now! This or the barista express from breville? Price difference of nearly £250 in these parts

Planning on that 👍 to be honest Smeg coffee machines (the ones I know of) usually only differ from other often much cheaper machines (that appear to be practically identical internally) by the Smeg look. This one is interesting tho, it has similarities to the sunbeam/Breville one and the beem grind profession, but doesn't look like a rebadge job as there are quite a few internal differences it seems.

Hi Kev, new sub here. Would you be able to do a video showing what you get at different price points from espresso machines? For example, if I want the Lelit Mara X but am unsure exactly what I would be getting over a Gaggia Classic? Thanks!

Kev, this is my first espresso machine that I’ve had a couple months after looking at the specs and taking a chance with very few reviews available and I’m enjoying it for what it is, definitely not a dodgy unit as mine has the same “quirks” with the grinder adjustment and water spout pressure. You can adjust the dosing and I’ve managed to fine tune to around 18g for a double press, you have to press down the portafilter in the cradle for 3 seconds while pressing the single and double shot buttons and you can up or down the grind time by a set perimeter. Definitely don’t regret my purchase however found myself deep in the rabbit hole suffering from upgradeitis 🤣

Thanks for that, I've pinned it as a comment, I should have read the chuffing manual... To be fair, I did, but obviously not well enough! 🤣. Thanks for that, good to know it's not just me re the quirks, but good to hear you're enjoying the machine too. Ah, upgraditis is a very expensive affliction 😆. Ta, Kev.

@@nicholasledger7088 nothing like that mate, it has a moment after pulling a shot where it almost purges the lines where the pump makes a small vibration noise and there’s a small dribble from the group, but no pop or bang, I’d be contacting the retailer

Kev, in your opinion, for someone interested in coffee but with a busy job so half the time just wants a great coffee to see him through the day, how would you briefly compare this machine against a Bambino Plus & Baratza ESP. Which setup would you recommend if both were available for £500? Is it a slam dunk win for one or the other, or is the comparison a bit more nuisanced?

Just depends on the user really, if it's someone who really wants to get into dialling in and nailing the extraction, I'd go for separates, if it's someone who is going to use it more like a bean to cup machine, set and forget, an integrated grinder machine makes more sense. Ta, Kev.

Hi. I’ve just got this machine yesterday for the first 4 shots it did make any noises after the espresso was pulled, but now it makes a very loud pop and knock and continues to dribble. Is this normal or is it faulty?

Great machine but I don't think it's for me. For a while now, I've been searching for a good espresso machine that doesn't break the bank, but where you do need to put some effort into to get better coffee than on a fully automated Bambino. That's why I first wanted to buy a Gaggia Classic Pro. The big downside for me is that besides espresso, I also drink 125ml Americano on a regular base. Cause I don't want a drink that is gone in 5 minutes in the evening. As I'm not the only person in my house drinking Americano, I don't think a Gaggia is my best option. Do you know an all metal dual boiler/HX espressomachine that doesn't break the bank (say, under 1-1.1K) that will probably be on my kitchen counter for the next 30 years orso (not taking human error into account)? 1 note though. Assuming you won't recommend a Decent, I'll probably see if I can add a Gaggiuino in which case I want a machine that has a very cheap or no PID. Thanks for your reply in advance

I know the Breville are incredibly popular but, for some reason, I can't get good espresso out of my Barrista Express. I fear they've got a habit of putting all their attention into whistles and bells and none into making good coffee. Since then I've used an Ascaso Dream and, my favorite, the Gaggia Classic Pro. Both make espresso far and away better than the Breville.

I've got this machine, mine doesn't jump up and down on the grind setting like yours tbh. I've not adjusted my dose and it's nowhere near as much as yours although I've not used the scales yet, might check it out tomorrow. I love the machine, got rid of £800 delonghi automatic for it. Zero regrets. Massive water tank.. my only gripe is the chrome tray scratches really easy.
