Brett Lee Bowling Action Analysis-
BRETT LEE:
[A] RUN-UP:
[1] Brett Lee had a long & smooth run-up of about 26.6 meters.
[2] He used to run in at 85% of his maximum running speed.
[3] During the initial phase of his run-up he slightly leans forward towards his target to accelerate his body.
[4] He gradually builds momentum during his run-up by taking small strides initially and longer strides towards the end of his run-up.
[5] By the end of his run-up he is not leaned forward.
[6] He always lands his foot under the center of mass of his body during his run-up.
[7] He has one of the most perfect run-up as he follows most effective running techniques like during his running in cyclic motion, landing on his heel during his run-up & running in a straight line.
[8] He properly synchronised the movements of his arms during his run-up i.e. during his run-up his one arm faces backward at 90° where as his other arm faces towards the batsman.
[B] JUMP & GATHER:
[1] Lee had a high & long jump, but he never collapsed at his back-foot because of his quick back-foot contact & controlled jump.
[2] During his jump he leans backward resulting in proper use of his shin lead.
[3] Initially had his load-up from outside his body resulting in lateral flexion, misalignment, injury & less the speed at his ball release. He used to have a mixed bowling action in the starting of his career i.e. the lower half of his body was predominantly side-on, with the top half front-on while bowling. This caused a lot of strain on his back strain on his body. So, after changing his bowling action he had his load-up close to his body and landed on a side-on position at the crease which not only helped him in proper alignment and but also helped him to avoid lateral flexion during his ball release.
[4] During his jump he slightly rotates his upper-half of his body towards umpire, helping him to create more stretch at his delivery stride.
[C] BFC:
[1] Brett Lee had the fastest BFC in cricket, of about 0.13sec that helped him in transferring his momentum from back-foot to front-foot directly without collapsing on his back-foot.
[2] He had no heel contact during his BFC.
[3] He was a hip-dominant side-on bowler i.e. he didn't bent his knee much during his BFC to generate pace, instead he used his run-up speed to generate to generate pace.
[4] He also had one of the finest pre-turn ever i.e. turning of his back foot from a side-on to a front-on position before releasing the ball.
[5] Lee also had a high-knee angle at his BFC i.e. at his BFC he had his front-knee at its highest point.
[E] At his back-foot contact he had his non-bowling arm at its highest position & made sure that the rotation of his non-bowling arm is very quick. This also helped him in increasing his pace.
[D] FFC & DELIVERY STRIDE:
[1] During his delivery stride his upper-body was in a side-on position whereas his lower body was in a front-on position, also known as hip-to-shoulder separation. This helped him increasing the stretch between the upper-half and lower-half of his body thereby increasing the rotational power of his upper-torso.
[2] He landed his front-foot using swing-leg retraction [i.e. just prior to ground contact he pull his front-foot towards his body to to increase his upper-trunk flexion & arm speed] and heel-stride technique [i.e. he landed on his heel first at his FFC].
[3] He also had a nice & forward chest drive targeting toward his target which acted as an additional advantage for him.
[4] He had a braced front-leg at his FFC which helped him in proper transfer of his whole body to the ball, but also resulted in 15 times pressure of his body weight on his front-knee.
[5] He also made a V-shaped position between his back-foot & front-foot at the ball release with the help of his back-foot drag.
[6] He also showed hypertension of his bowling arm, had a high-arm action and was also properly aligned i.e. his bowling arm & front-foot were in a straight line at ball release which aided his bowling speed.

@@rittikkumar8116 See, actually when he changed his action then in the initial phase of his career he was a semi side-on bowler. But as he progressed in his career he became a more side-on bowler. So, he was a side-on bowler, only in the initial phase of his career he was a semi side-on bowler. For more details you can watch his bowling action as well. Hope this clears your doubt.
