Brett Kollmann on the SEAHAWKS draft class (and how INSANE it would be to trade DK METCALF!!!)

Спорт

If you've ever seen any of Brett Kollmann's content (and if you haven't, you SHOULD) you'll know what an "elite ball-knower" he is. Whether he's breaking down all-22 tape or looking at broader issues, Brett has his finger on the pulse of the entire league.
In this episode, I get to pick Brett's brain a little bit and get his thoughts on how the Seahawks did in the just-concluded draft, as well as their division opponents.
But that's NOT all! Other topics include....
**The selection of Michael Penix Jr at #8 to Atlanta
**Where do the QB's of the NFC West rank in regards to the league's best? **What does the selection of one particular Seahawk draft pick tell us about the style of offense Seattle intends to play?
**A sleeper day 3 Seattle pick he particularly likes
**And hear him gush about Seahawk legend Walter Jones....

This is the first time I can remember in a long time where I generally feel really good about our draft. They got good players at solid positions and drafted players who can be immediately or developed into game changers.

I seriously feel the DK Metcalf trade talk is mostly done by the media. I know people that are frustrated with DK's antics, but I don't know anybody that thinks it makes sense to trade him

It was wise to load up on DT then. Gotta stop Rams & 49's RUN game. Top DC mind vs the Top OC minds. As AD99 & C.Jones & M.Bennett showed, the O gets u to the Playoffs, but the D always wins titles.

For the late 1990s early 2000s, I agree with the offensive line, and Hasselbeck. But I'd also add Shaun Alexander in there, especially with the 5 TDs in ONE HALF game against Minnesota (I think that record still stands)

One of the reasons Patriots remained good for so long is they didn't hold on to assets too long. Trade Chandler Jones? that's crazy. Very hard to improve and remain good by holding onto players. That happened to Seattle. Gave way too many 2nd and 3rd contracts to declining players and just didn't have enough assets always drafting 30th in the first round.

There has been two OTs in the NFL. Munoz and Jones. They were both special. They made it look so easy. They embarrassed pretty much anyone across from them. If you got stuck with either one, you'd be happy for 10+ years of knowing zero sacks were coming from their guy. And if you needed a 3rd and 1, they were getting you 4 yards of space. Jones gets forgotten just how good he was. You never heard his name on game day. You know why he never did anything wrong. He gave up 23 sacks in 12 years and only 9 holding penalties. A sack every 7.8 games over his career. If I remember the numbers right. Doesn't matter the era for an OT that's insane. Bruce Smith got Jones twice. Bruce Smith gets forgotten too. He was special. He made anyone he was playing against have nightmares.

Still want to know why they picked Knight over Trotter Jr. This could be like taking "Mr. Business Decision" Jordyn Brooks over the best LB in the SEC at the time, Patrick Queen. Time shall tell. But this is the team that didn't draft the best FS in college football Budda Baker, when they had issues with Earl. How many draft picks did they waste on Adams and Diggs?

  • @GlassActivist

Diggs cost a 5th round pick, very good value. Jamal was ruined by the Seahawks, put in harm's way too often in first season, left out of the play next year. If not for the absolutely terrible defensive coaching, I think Jamal could have been great as a Seahawk.

I’m not a “trade DK” guy, but I understand the argument…with that said…the time to trade him was between that first wave of free agency and the start of the draft. After that it makes no sense.

One of the best episodes yet. I love Brett and EJ. I tend to lean more towards EJ’s way of thinking but both are great football minds. I think the whole division had solid drafts as of today. My least favorite pick is the Darius Robinson pick for Arizona. I’m my opinion he looks like he will struggle at this level. Time will tell! Great show

Sometimes I get annoyed with people crying about “reaches” in the draft. If a team really wants a player, and if they don’t select them a bit early (relative to consensus boards or what have you), they might miss out on being able to get the player at all, then they absolutely should take the player

I liked all of our rivals drafts ,loved la rams adding fsu to the line with Jared and Fiske. La rams are gonna be scary with the offszn additions of their line. I understood why San fran took perseal there but I'd rather them take Cooper demean and take a wr after instead. I like that combo more . It's weird last off szn I had no worries about Arizona because of the head coach going viral going pew pew pew . Once I saw that I was like okay this guys a loser I ain't scared . They drafted so well last year and again this year ..it's scary our division could be all battling for playoff spots .

The Seattle Coaching staff has a lot of coaches who have a “fly on the wall” view of the College football talent pool, that & the tremendous resources Seattle dedicated to the draft gives Seattle a tremendous edge in the NFL. Pete Carroll built a Super Bowl dynasty that got wrecked by USA’s CIA Culture Psyops & Injuries to players like Kam Chancellor after signing huge contracts. Lessons learned, Schneider & McDonald should easily acquire better & more talent from the draft than any other team in the NFL next few years. Carroll was successful because he had prolific relationships with the Coordinators in CFB 1st few years @ Seattle. It’s the Coordinator who does most of the recruiting in CFB not the Head Coach. Right now Seattle has CFB wired up. But can Seattle’s Star College Football coaches transition successfully to the NFL? That’s the Elephant in the room!

The only logical reason for trading DK would be financials for 2025. If you can't get a 1st and 2nd you don't do it. On that note then you would probably either trade or let go of Geno then the rebuild process is in full swing.

I think the 49ers still the best in the West but the division is catching up. The Hawks still are missing that stud edge rusher and thumper safety. Geno has to prove to me he can beat the good teams. The Cardinals will be better this year. The Rams were 10-7 with a below average roster, I do think losing Aaron Donald will hurt them more than everyone thinks, but expect the Rams will compete for the division.

DK Metcalf is one of the best in the league. He also is not worth the money he will be commanding next year. It's just like they say about a QB on his rookie contract, you have a lot more money to spend in free agency, that you won't have down the road. DK isn't even a QB, the most important position in the sport. He's a WR, and they can be replaced much easier than the QB position. You could get a first and maybe a 3rd round choice from a team in a "win now" position. Anyway, we have our different opinions. I'm pretty sure Schnieder and McDonald are closer to my position. If you don't trade him, you're stuck in a contract with a guy after his prime, who's bloated contract is hamstringing your money situation to buy other free agents.

While I agree with much of what you said, I wouldn’t blame DK for our cap space problems. How is it the 49ers, for example, can have 9 pro-bowlers on their roster, while we have 3 (selected initially), get rid of one, and then complain about one of the few blue-chip players we still have taking up too much cap space? We’ve GM’ed ourselves into this corner (blame, Pete, John, or both of them if you like) with poor decisions elsewhere that we’re still paying for. Having said that, I’m looking forward to two things where DK is concerned. 1) Accountability. A coach who’s not going to put up with his immaturity. Time to start acting like a grown up. 2) As a fan of DK (despite what I just said:-), I’d like to see how much more potential is there with competent coaching, scheming, and line play that will hopefully allow a little more time for plays to unfold.

I would have traded him and never looked back. He's never played up to his talent level or the money Seattle signed him for. It's always been, "If they could just get DK to.." He'll struggle to get 1000 yards. He'll drop 2 dozen balls that hit him right in the hands. He'll get 5+ stupid team killing penalties. He can't run routes it's why he struggles to beat any corner. Size and speed with hands of stone. He's not any different than his rookie year. You love him if he actually catches the ball and doesn't draw a stupid penalty. But that's rare. Move on. Let someone else take the cap hit.

Nah DK is a great player and we shouldn’t trade him. He gets emotional sometime but that’s really his only knock. By all accounts he’s a great teammate, physically he’s a freak, and the hawks need to use him more because he can put up 1200/1300 yards and change the game in a flash
