    Yeah for sure. The Arbiter has some of the most dialed wells of any topmount I have tried. That doesn't mean wheelbite is impossible, wheelbite management is part of life when you choose to ride a topmount. What it means is that you have the widest possible array of options to avoid it (since the wells are so deep and CNC'd). MOST of our riders ride 70mms and I have seen people race 75mms on this board no problem. Get your trucks and wheels on, you will likely clear, if you don't then tweak.

    Hey J, Understanding the goals of a board is the most important part of choosing a deck. The Apex 37 is a pretty unique board in longboarding. We try to use video to help illustrate a board's purpose, but of course it looks good in the hands of freaks like Petter. You didn't see any 40mph bombs in the Apex 37 video and I am sure you didn't catch any 360 flips in this one. It's all about what the board is designed to do and how that works for you, one man's trash is another man's treasure.

    Rad to hear you are getting into it. Time to learn, it depends on what terrain you have to work with and which board you start with. Tell us a little about what ride style appeals to you and what your hills look like and we can help more : ) Starters; Pintail 40 would work well for cruising, carving and learning the basics. Drop Freeride 41 would be a good fit for you for learning to slide. You could go with an Arbiter but a top mount is not always the easiest way to learn the basics : )

    This IS the actual Original team haha Remember that Western Sessions was now shot more than 5 years ago, the first vids with Bish and Dutch were shot 3+ years ago... and its now 2013 haha Bish is @architecture school and shredding every day he can, traveling when available. I am coming back form being sick (lyme disease) for 6 months, but been snowboarding a ton. Everyone still rides. BUT I would love to get a solo edit out on the Rider Alliance channel this spring. It's all for fun. _Scott

    Right on, well first off the boombox is a nice deck, so good on you there. I would say that you will probably enjoy the Drop Freeride 41 more coming from the boombox (since you are used to the micro / radial concave drop that that board has). Weight and height sound good, though if you have a wide stance at 6'3 you could certainly consider the Drop Freeride 44. For reference, the platform on the Drop 41 is similar width to that of the boombox : )

    Tough question. Do you have any sliding / DH experience at all? If you are an experienced rider a topmount is a beautiful thing. That being said if you don't know how to slide *yet* there are a lot of advantages to learning on a drop-deck like the Maven. Easier slide initiation and more stability at speed being the two main ones. That said the Arbiter has more fine tuned control at the top end of the spectrum.

    Thanks for giving us a look Thor, With skate experience you have a lot of options, but you might not like Original trucks. Surfers and snowboarders like those. Maybe Calibers? I you are learning to slide, a drop deck or a drop through, or both (called a double drop, like the Drop Freeride) will help you initiate your slides easier. As to the Apex. Want to freestyle / do tricks at slow speeds + slide? Go Apex, thats what it's good for. No tricks? Drop Freeride, the Arbiter 36 or Maven 35.

  • @originalskateboards
    @originalskateboards11 жыл бұрын

    The Maven would be my first choice (personally) were I to be back in that situation to do over again ; )

    A pintail. Plus with Original trucks, you're going to carve like crazy if you want to. A friend of mine has a Pintail 40 and I can even do some freestyle tricks on it. So a pintail would be a very good choice for a begginer.

    Silly trucks man, that's rough, but I suppose true for anything much beyond carving haha As to lamination, we are buying the best veneers you can get and stacking in the best glue we can find, most importantly we care about what we are doing (ie. we aren't going to take good stuff and rush the process or produce junk). Hence the $99 Arbiter. Quality is something you have to prove. Best way to prove it was to put good boards in the hands of good riders.

    Thats ok, falling is good practice. Getting up is the most important skill to learn. In all seriousness though longboarding is one of the most fun sports you can pick up, with a very easy learning curve. Just start small, and slow, and work your way up. Most people get hurt when they do stuff outside their comfort zone or over there head as far as difficulty.

    Sliding at low speed is a LOT different than sliding at higher speed. How low are we talking about here? There are setups that can slide on flats, but that same setup is not going to be very good for bigger hills. The Apex with Original trucks is actually a great option to break your wheels free at low speeds. That said that same board would be better with Calibers for mid ranged, something like the Maven 35 or Arbiter 36 if you are going faster yet again.
