I love how Star Trek took advantage of every talent of its actors. Singing, dancing, Brent's skill as a character actor. Even Stewart's background as a Shakespearean.

Dr Crusher teaching tap dancing... Johnathan Frakes really plays the Trombone, Robert Picardo's opera singing Sevens beautiful voice, The one they should have included also was Tuvok... not only do I see Tim Russ's Vulcan as the best Vulcan ever portrayed on screen in 50 years next to Nimoy, he is an absolute daemon of a guitar player, real shame they couldnt fit that in somehow.

I loved this from Nemesis. Data sorta seemed awkward, as if he was trying to figure out the tune and how to sing it, like he didn't have the soul or feeling down. And then all of a sudden, he caught his swing and settled into it just fine, accompanied by the band, and smiles all around. I loved that scene.

I think its rather to establish how much Data has changed, how he is able to cause emotional tension at the beginning to contrast with his spectacular performance to make it seem even better, which shows how Data's understanding of human nature has increased so much to even understand something so minute as that.

@John Rayne While I do agree the new show is far darker and less trekkie than the rest, I do think they kept Picard largely the same. Same optimistic persuasive peace maker he always was. I personally think that made the show really good. It shows that even when shit is literally falling apart, there is still always someone who is able to look ahead and find a different solution. "change is the essential process of all existence." This way the show can speak to a new generation and still give an optimistic ending even if we have to go through hell to get there. Thats at least my 2 cents.

@@lindaweaving8917 Brent singing this to Frank is more likely to win over younger listeners than Frank Sinatra. At least, he's paying homage to Frank by carrying over his music today. I didn't listen to Frank much (except to listen to his daughter sing a short tune on the programme, " Man From U.N.C.L.E.", but I was more interested in David McCallum-who could also sing and play various instruments, and conduct like his own father-who played Illya Kuryakin and later Ducky on "NCIS". He too made 4 albums of music from an earlier era, a few songs and the others conducted by him).

If you think about it, this version (in Star Trek Nemisis) is featured early in the story, as Ms Briones' is in the end.

@Bob Thornton It's too bad Stewart and the original cast didn't get more influence over the show. Picard is like any other Kurtzman show. Kurtzman failed the fans, and failed Roddenberry's legacy. We need a utopian show right now. Not this dystopian Cyberpunk game of thrones in space(Wouldnt' mind a show like that, just not in Star Trek).
