This was a tremendous interview. These hour long conversations with top class ex pros/current managers are incredibly insightful. In a way its a shame Rodgers managed us so early in his career as he was learning on the job during his tenure at Liverpool and ultimately caved under the pressure that comes with managing a huge club. Despite that, he still did a good-very good job during his time at Liverpool. Its clear that he has grown as a manager and improved over the past 5 years or so and there is no doubt that he is now on the verge of getting another top job. The work he is doing at Leicester is nigh on unbelievable. Its all well and good saying "but they won the league" but that season was an anomaly. They were nearly relegated the season prior to winning the league and the season after winning the league (despite getting to the champions league quarter finals) and then struggled to finish in the top 10 prior to Rodgers arrival. To finish in the top 5 (probably 4th or above this season) in consecutive seasons with a team like leaicester is the thing dreams are made of, especially in the modern era when there is no longer a big four but a legitimate big 6. In an ideal world I would love to see gerrard as our manager with Rodgers as his assistant when klopp leaves as between gerrards aura, incredibly high standards and respect within Liverpool and Rodgers coaching ability they could make an unstoppable team. That will obviously never happen though lol. Rodgers is nailed on to be the next chelsea boss in my opinion and if he has learnt enough since leaving Liverpool to allow him to engrain his style of play into those Chelsea players (top class, highly paid players with some big egos etc) then he could well take chelsea back to where they were under mourinho as the dominant force in English football. Once guardiola and klopp move on things will change. Its natural progression unfortunately. From a selfish perspective I hope klopps around long after gurdiola but Rodgers definitely has the necessary characteristics to be a genuinely world class manager. If he gets the chelsea job within the next 2-3 years he could well build something special there. Ynwa brendan. I'll never forget the spring of 2014. Thanks for the good times. so long as you're not up against our lot ill always be happy to see you succeed.

Brendan is a top man! I am a Celtic fan and was disappointed in the way he left. I was disappointed as he turned Celtic from an average, underachieving Ronny side to a clinical, ruthless and attractive footballing team and I was selfishly wanting it to last. I completely accept and understand that the opportunity he was offered was a no brainer! As he said, he was offered a great challenge, great money and a fantastic opportunity for him and his family. As I said, I was disappointed but not spiteful when he left Celtic and will always appreciate the joyful days he brought us. He made Cal Mac what he is today and of course brought us Moussa Dembele!! I wish you all the success possible on your new journey and speak for the majority of Celtic fans when I say you will be welcomed back to Celtic Park with open arms as you are one of our own! 🌟🍀

Another incredible podcast by god himself. He’s definitely got unfinished business at Liverpool for sure but no one can take it away from him, Brendon Rodgers is a brilliant manager. Massive amount of respect on and of the field, watching that documentary about him as Liverpool Manager and the Hillsborough memorial reinforced that. Sadly losing Suarez and Sterling, and having the title nicked of us at the last minute, plus the availability of Klopp brought about his demise. However Gomez, Milner, Lalana, Firmino, Sturridge, Coutinho, Sterling from the academy, Henderson from Kenny. We played some incredible football under him . That 5-1 win against Arsenal will be my favourite MOTD episode ever. Have to say, he also did a banging job Celtic and is doing an incredible job at Leicester. YNWA

I think Brendan's big success at Liverpool was his adaptability. He came in and started molding the side around his slow, methodical, tidy "tiki-taka" style that got him so much praise at Swansea... signing Joe Allen early on with that in mind. When he realized what he had with Sterling, Sturridge and especially Suarez, he was smart enough to say, right feck that, we need to play a fast-pace smash and grab type of footy, get it up to those boys asap and just outscore the opponent. The front three were THAT good, and he changed his whole philosophy to play to their strengths. I give him huge credit for that and thought his sacking came a bit too soon. All's well that ends well though, look who we brought in to replace him :)

Great amount of respect for Brendan and what he did at Liverpool..That team played some absolutely sensational football and i will never forget the pure joy of watching that team score at will (it seemed) but overall his transfer dealings are what crucified him i believe. In the 2013 season if we had even close to a decent back 5 and a proper no.6 we'd have easily won the league..I'm sure of this because our front line was flooded with goals but our GK and back 5 were a joke and our MF had no natural defensive cover..While i do feel he did a good job i also feel that a serious chance to immortalize himself was missed..YNWA

He was dealt a poor hand with that transfer committee at the time not being allowed full and total control of transfers - something which klopp insisted on before coming to lfc, something which fergie at utd also insisted on - it speaks volumes! What he's done/doing at Leicester is tremendous, Mark my words he will end up at a huge club - he speaks fluent Spanish, don't be shocked to see him at a Barcelona or atletico Madrid at some point!

I think Brendan Rodgers has a point and Graeme Souness has a point. Brendan has a point because like in other sports, sports science plays a key role. Stats, tatics, formations, food intake, perhaps psychologists; all looked at in minute detail. So Brendan is right. However, Souness is also right. When Souness was at the club, he was part of three European cup wins. In the old First Division, Liverpool players were not afraid to put the ball in row Z if they had to. However, when Liverpool played in Europe, they adapted their game and tactics, playing more patient, their technical players having more time. They squuezed the opposition, a tactic bizarelly the rest of Europe finally adoped thirty years later. During the 1970s and 1980s, mnost top continental teams never played 4:4:2. Most teams played deep with a sweeper system, sometimes one striker up front etc etc. So the Liverpool team with Souness had to overcome different formations to win, it wasn't just about matching up against 4:4:2 and beating that. Meanwhile there were more progressive teams like Tottenham during that era who did try different formations because like Liverpool they had technical players. So, yes, everyone can talk formations, tactics etc but at the end of the day, it still comes down to how good the players are and how much of a match brain they have to take responsibility on the pitch. Also, a manager also has to look at someone's character. No good buying lots of technical players for rididculous money if they have character flaws in critical moments. That might be one area modern football is failing because of too much money blinding everyone.

He was great at Liverpool, but transfers and his defensive strategy unfortunately cost him. Was probably just a bit too early in his management Korea. And coincided with the brilliance of Louis Suarez which a lot of people probably give all the credit to for that team instead of the manager

see my comment above.he stayed loyal 2 skrtel & mignolet & those 2 killed us,killed us that season,& it was brendan who kept picking them.i went 2may games that yr,most away & skrtel was making mistakes every other week & a large majority lead straight 2 goals.& yes yes yes i know he scored goals, ive not forgotten this.but his primary job was 2 keep the ball out not put it in.but he killed us over 38 games.i remember after Fulham away in early feb that yr,carra saying the next morning lfc won't win the league unless we start keeping clean sheets.we only kept 4 clean sheets in the next 13 games & more than anything else, even Gerrards slip, this is what cost us
